Chapter Seven
•BRIANNA•
As soon as I read the brief message, I let out a sigh. I thought I could pull it off by coming to work late without him knowing, but it turned out I couldn’t. Now, I have to face his wrath. I walked out of my office, breathing nervously, and stopped in front of his office. I stood at the door for some seconds, trying to regulate my breathing, and I was able to calm down. I knocked on the door, and I heard his deep voice tell me to come in. I took deep breaths in and out to calm my nerves before opening the door and stepping into the office.
As soon as I stepped into the office, I was taken aback, and my mouth fell open. The office was simply beautiful and unique. Mr. Adrian was sitting on a black leather-turning chair, and in front of it was a large brown modern mahogany desk with two other swivel chairs in front of it. I looked around the office again, and I saw two bookshelves filled with books on both sides of Mr. Adrian’s swivel chair.
The office was painted in brown and cream colour, making it look absolutely amazing. At the far end of the room were two black leather couches — a one-seater and a two-seater. A small coffee table is in front of the couches.
My eyes trailed back to Mr. Adrian. He was putting on a black suit with a dark blue shirt underneath. The first three buttons of the shirt were opened, giving me a small but good view of his chest; there were tiny little curls of hair on his chest. I felt compelled to go close to him and stroke his bare chest, but I knew better than to act on the insane thought. I heard Mr. Adrian clear his throat, and I snapped out of the daze I was in. I felt my cheeks warm up in embarrassment when I realised he knew I was checking him out. I felt like he could read my mind and find out what I was thinking.
“Like what you see?” He asked with a smug expression on his face.
“What are you talking about?” I asked, trying to act oblivious.
“Oh, don’t play smart with me. I know you were checking me out.” He replied with a smirk.
“No, I wasn’t.” I quickly responded, and he gazed at me.
“Why would I do that? It’s not like there is anything pleasing to stare at, anyway.” I replied defiantly. He looked like his ego was bruised, but he seemed to wave it off. I gave myself a mental pat on the back.
“That is not a way to talk to your boss. It is not professional or ethical.” He spoke up after some seconds of silence passed between us.
“I am very sorry about that, Mr. Adrian.” I quickly apologised, even though I didn’t mean it.
“I know that apology is not sincere, but I will ignore that.” He uttered and continued. “Now, I want you to go back out the door, come inside again, greet me properly, and tell me why you are here.”
My eyes went wide as I stared at him with a mix of surprise and confusion.
“Do you mean that?” I asked just to be sure.
“Of course I do. Do I look like I’m joking?” He said with an expressionless face, and I sighed in defeat. I had no choice but to do it
I walked out of his office, closed the door behind me, and I waited outside for some seconds. I sighed before knocking on the door. He told me to come in, and I did as he said.
“Good morning, Mr. Adrian. I saw a note in my office that said I should come to your office immediately after I sign in.” I spoke up politely.
“Yes, that reminds me!” He exclaimed, totally ignoring my greetings. “Why are you just coming? You ought to have resumed since 8 a.m., but you’re coming by this time.”
“Do you wish to lose your job that early?” He bellowed
“No, Sir. I am very sorry. I got caught up with something. It won’t repeat itself anymore.” I replied apologetically.
“It better not. Keep it at the back of your mind that you will lose your job if you come late again.” He warned.
“Okay, sir,” I uttered.
“By the way, where’s my morning coffee?” He questioned.
“What morning coffee?” I asked back.
“It was clearly stated in the schedule given to you yesterday that you’re are to bring me coffee first thing in the morning. Did you even go through it at all?” He quizzed with a raise of his perfectly shaped eyebrows. Ha! I was so excited about working in a big company that I forgot about going through the schedule given to me.
“Oh right, your coffee!” I exclaimed. “I’ll go get it right away, Sir. Don’t worry about it.”
After saying that, I walked out of his office without waiting for him to say something. I knew very well that the next word that would come out of his mouth was to threaten to fire me.
I stopped walking for a bit when I realised I didn’t know where to get the coffee. I shrugged and continued walking when I remembered I could just ask the receptionist where he usually got it.
I walked in short, quick strides towards the elevator, and I stepped inside. Within no time, I arrived at the first floor. I walked towards the reception desk, where Miss Kristen was working on her computer.
“Hey, Miss Kristen,” I called to get her attention
She raised her head from the computer and replied, ”Hi, Miss Brianna.”
“Can you please point me to where the boss gets his coffee?” I asked.
“Oh, he gets it at the cafe on the other side of the road.” She responded.
“Thank you very much,” I replied and smiled at her. I strode to the exit of the company and strolled out of the building.
I crossed over to the other side of the road where the cafe was situated, and I was mesmerised. The name “Golden Oasis Cafe” was boldly written in italics on a piece of wood; the place was simply beautiful.
When I opened the door of the cafe and walked in, a bell chimed at the top of the door, signifying that someone had come in. The outside view of the cafe was beautiful, but the interior was breathtaking. The cafe had a homey feeling to it.
The place radiated a golden aura reminiscent of honey. The walls were adorned with warm tones of amber and gold, creating a cosy atmosphere that wrapped around you like a comforting embrace. Soft, mellow music played in the background, adding to the soothing ambience. The menu boasted a delightful array of honey-infused treats, from honey lavender lattes to decadent honey drizzle pastries. The furniture, crafted from rich wood and accented with honey-coloured upholstery, invites you to relax and savour the moments spent within this hive of serenity.
I was lost in the beauty of the place before I remembered what I went there to do. I walked towards the counter where a middle-aged woman stood. She had blonde hair with a few grey strands and a warm, welcoming smile on her face.
“Hi, I’m Tatiana. What would you like to have?” She asked with a thick Californian accent dripping from her voice. It was then I realised I didn’t ask for the type of coffee he wanted. I decided to get him a latte because almost everyone I knew liked latte, including me. He couldn’t be an exception, I thought to myself.
“I’d like to have a cup of latte, please,” I replied politely. She scribbled something down on a note and passed it through the window behind her, and someone who I guessed to be the barista collected it from her.
Within a few minutes of waiting, the coffee was ready. I collected it and paid for it before walking out of the cafe. I arrived back at the company within a minute, and I smiled at Miss Kristen when I got to the reception.
I scurried over to the elevator and pressed the button, and I waited impatiently for it to get here. When it did, I hurriedly got into it and pressed the button for the last floor where the boss’s office was located.
