It was the weekend and Damon woke up early, intending to go for a run. Mint was excitedly jumping around in his head and Damon was relieved that he was talking to him again He went outside looking at the beautiful sunrise and sniffing in the smell of pine and wood in the air. He stripped and shifted, his bones making awful snapping and creaking noises as they realigned into his wolf form. He was a big wolf being of Alpha blood and had gorgeous black fur with all over including his underbelly and paws. Girls thought he was adorable and Mint always loved the attention he got.
He let Mint take over, running in the woods, his keen eyes observing everything as he sniffed, searching for his prey. They caught the scent of a rabbit and followed it, nose to the ground as they stalked it. the rabbit was jumping and never saw them coming as Mint pounced and snapped its neck, happily eating it.
"We need to go back" Damon told him and he whined, wanting to stay longer. Damon rolled his eyes as he wrestled back control, Mint sulking at the back of his mind. He ran back to the packhouse and shifted, putting his clothes back on and entering the kitchen. His stomach growled as he sniffed the air with appreciation and helped himself to pancakes and juice.
His mother and father joined him. "How's it going with your mate" his mother enquired eagerly and some pancake stuck in his throat. He coughed as she patted his back before swallowing and gulping in air.
"Not good" he admitted as his dad looked at him amused. "She won't even sit with me at lunch. I invited her to sit at my table and she refused me outright." He complained, sounding very much like a spoilt child.
"Did you try and sit with her at her table?" his dad said plainly.
Damon shook his head "her friends are weirdos. The girl that sits with her wears funny clothes and has bright turquoise hair and the boy is really flamboyant and clearly gay" he whined.
His mum narrowed her eyes at him in anger and he gulped as his dad slammed his hand on the table "you sound like an entitled brat" he hissed as his wife nodded in agreement "she probably feels the same about your so called friends whom I might add I don't like."
Damon lowered his eyes. His friends were a sore point for them and he also realised that they might be right.
"I never thought that you would be so shallow as to judge people based on looks or sexuality" his mother said so softly that Damon felt the world's biggest a******. His mother was right because that is exactly what he had done without giving her friends a chance.
His father threw him a disgusted look as he stood up, holding his wife's hand "Grow up because at this rate I don't think I want to hand the title of Alpha over to you. Not when you can't even accept people's differences. That doesn't bode well for the pack."
Damon watched, speechless as they both strode off angrily, aware that had majorly f***** up.
With a grimace he washed his dishes as Mint blocked him off again, declaring that he wouldn't speak to someone who constantly did something stupid. He strode out to the training area where several warriors were fighting and watched them with pride. His pack, the Silver Star pack, was one of the strongest in the country, with barely any rogue attacks as a result. "Wanna spar" the pack's beta and his friend Jonathon asked noticing him.
Johnathon was one of the strongest warriors in the pack, his slight frame and youthful look misleading. His red hair and freckles face made him look even younger but he was agile and he had strong muscles with the strength of several human men.
Damon considered but part of sparring involved shifting and Mint was flat out refusing to let him shift, calling all sorts of names that didn't bear repeating. "Can't" he admitted "Mint's P***** at me."
Johnathon roared with laughter. "What did you do?" he asked. It was rare for a wolf to refuse to shift.
With a sigh, Damon plopped himself on the grass while Johnathon joined him. He began to tell his Beta the whole story, Johnathon listening without interruption. After he finished Johnathon gave a low whistle, shaking his head."Man you really f****** up" he said, not beating around the bush.
"I know but I don't know what to do. Candice hates me, I'm a terrible person and now I've made my parents mad."
Johnathon was thoughtful "do you even know Candice? What she likes or what she does with her friends?"
Damon shook his head.
"What if some of us followed her discreetly and reported back to you? Surely we could find out a little bit more about her that might help you get back in her good graces. In the meantime it wouldn't hurt you to get to know her friends a little instead of being a d*** who has judged them without knowing them" Johnathon offered.
Mint perked up thinking this was a great idea while Damon wasn't sure. Mint threatened to never let him shift again and Damon reluctantly gave his assent. "You will be discreet" he warned as Johnathon put a hand over his heart. "Scout's honor" he declared.
"Fine, you can start tonight" Damon grumbled. "Choose two others to help and do not let her see you or I will murder you myself."
Johnathon grinned to himself as Damon stormed away. He had never seen his friend like this and to be honest he was rather enjoying that Candice wasn't proving to be another conquest. It would do Damon some good to be taken down a peg or two. Ever since he had started hanging out with the popular crowd at school he had become a bit of a d*** and his whole personality had changed. Being popular had gone to his head. Maybe Candice would turn him back around. She sounded like a great girl and Johnathon wanted to see the girl who turned his friend down. He whistled as he headed over to recruit two others to join him in the surveillance tonight.
