Candice was fairly humming as she dropped off Laurie. It was Friday and she only had to work tonight with the double pay Todd had given her for the other night meaning she now has the weekend off. She parked and greeted her friend's Logan and Dee. She was unsurprised that Dee was wearing a shirt with a grumpy care bear on it and leggings with lollipops on it. The turquoise coloured hair she was sporting, that was new. "I love your hair" Candice said giving Dee a hug.
"I needed to change it up" Dee chirped as Logan just laughed.
"Girl, ain't nobody gonna lose you in a crowd" he teased as they all laughed.
They headed to class together holding hands and chatting.
By the time lunch came around Candice was thinking of just bailing and getting Laurie out of school. She was bored and tired, feeling a bit hormonal and a bit bitchy.
It didn't help that Logan picked up on it "I think your time of the month is coming" he said as they sat down, wincing when Candice punched him on the arm.
"Could you not pay attention to this sort of stuff" she hissed embarrassed.
Logan smirked and handed her a chocolate bar from his bag which she eagerly opened. Dee gave him a look 'it's kinda creepy that you keep chocolate handy in your bag for when either of us is due."
"Yeah" Candice chimed in between bites "how do you keep track?"
Logan flushed "I circle the dates on a calender so I know to pack chocolate and painkillers."
The girls stared at him. He fidgeted nervously.
"I don't care" Candice breathed "it's creepy but sweet. Can I have some painkillers" she asked him and he handed some over without a word.
"I really wish you weren't gay sometimes cause you would make the perfect boyfriend for me" Dee declared. Logan winked at her.
Damon walked up to them and they fell silent as he smiled. "Candice would you like to sit with me at my table?' he asked pointing it out. Candice eyed it and scrunched up her nose. Lisa, the head cheerleader was glaring daggers at her and some of the jocks just looked amused.
"No thankyou" she said politely, going back to her chocolate bar.
"Why not" Damon blurted out. Dee giggled and Logan shook his head as he ate his food.
Candice was pissed. Why couldn't he take no for an answer? Did he honestly think just because he was popular, that she would be interested?
"Because" she said icily "I have no interest in sitting at the popular table and dealing with b*****y cheerleaders and jocks who w**** around. I'm not leaving my favourite people in the world by themselves for that s***."
Damon digested her words and realised she really was different to the other girls he had dated. Mint was refusing to talk to him, declaring him an ass, before blocking Damon completely.
"I really don't mean to offend you" he said and Candice sighed, feeling exasperated.
"Please just go."
He left without another word and Candice spent the rest of lunch laughing with Logan and Dee who were in awe of her.
Candice groaned later on as she got her period for real. She had served dinner for Laurie and had felt it coming on. She hurriedly showered and dressed in a black figure hugging dress with high heels She could.still work but she would be assisting behind the bar..It was Todd's golden rule, not because it embarrassed him but because it enabled them to rest and sit in his office with a hot water bottle if they needed. His wife suffered from debilitating period pain when she was alive and Todd therefore wanted his girls to be comfortable during their time. He really was a good boss and all the girls adored him because of it.
She rushed into work and Todd gave her a glance and said to Mickey the bartender " Candy is assisting you tonight."
"If you need to sit or anything" he added and Candice nodded as he grinned sheepishly.
As she went into the back though she gasped in shock. Frantically she began looking around and picking things up, searching for her red wig. It was nowhere to be found and she felt a rising wave of panic as she fought it down.
She went over to Todd almost in tears "Candy why aren't you ready yet?'
'my wig is missing" Candice stammered and Todd pinched his nose.
"Tanitha" he groaned "I had to fire her for doing drugs on the premises last night. She kept screaming about me favouring you and that she had lost her regular customers to you."
Candice sighed. She didn't blame Todd for firing Tanitha, drugs was a no go with him. But she also couldn't bring herself to work without a disguise.
"Wait here" Todd said suddenly and disappeared our the back. He came back holding a bright purple wig with long straight hair. "Megan said you can borrow it, she hasn't had a chance to wear it yet."
Candice looked at the wig and decided beggars can't be choosers and hastily donned the wig.
"It suits you" Todd chuckled "I'll have a replacement wig for you on Monday" he promised.
Mickey grinned at her as she joined him. It was a busy night and she was run off her feet for the next few hours. Her cramping was beginning to distract her and she was starting to get a major backache. Todd took a turn behind the bar to give her a break and sent her home early which she accepted gratefully. He escorted to her car and as she climbed in her she couldn't shake the feeling she was being watched.
