Surveillance

It was night time and Candice sat with Laurie watching a horror movie, popcorn and soda ready on the coffee table. It had been an easy day, laundry and cleaning caught up on as they worked together to get it done. Candice had showered several times due to pain and the cramps she was feeling. She had also regularly taken ibuprofen to take the edge of it.

Even now Candice sat huddled on the couch, with a hot water bottle and feeling miserable. Her periods were always painful and she thanked goodness that Laurie was well versed in how to help. Part of her hoped Laurie wouldn't have the same issues but they wouldn't know for sure until she began to get them.

Laurie rushed into the kitchen and came back with two pints of ice cream and two spoons, handing one of each to Candice. Candice looked down at her favourite ice cream, bubble gum flavour, and almost burst into tears. "When did you get this?"

"I popped out earlier to the deli and bought it" Laurie said shrugging her shoulders. They were ready to click the movie on when the doorbell rang, startling them both. Candice hobbled to the door, grabbing the baseball bat next to it and swinging the door open.

Logan held his hands up as Candice thrust the bat into his hands. "Ok next time I'll message first" he said dramatically, holding up a plastic bag as an offering. Candice took it while Laurie squealed and hugged Logan, she absolutely adored him and loved him like a brother. The feeling was mutual with Logan doting on her everytime he visited. Candice opened the bag and gasped. She lifted stunned eyes to meet Logan's amused ones. "Is this what I think it is" she said reverently as Laurie tried to look.

She pulled the box out with shaking hands. Logan had brought her her favourite rum balls from Angie's bakery, a bakery that was an hour away.

That was it, it was too much for Candice in her highly emotional state who burst into noisy tears. Logan shot a meaningful look at Laurie as he pulled Candice onto his lap and rubbed her back.

"Ssshhh" he said holding her tight "I know how painful your time of the month is and I thought this would help."

She cried harder into his shoulder as Laurie eyed off the rum balls. Eventually her tears slowed and she hiccupped, wiping her tears away and sitting next to Logan. Laurie took advantage and jumped on Logan who laid her down against his chest, facing the television. "Thankyou Logan" Candice said softly and he grinned. "Not going to say it's creepy" he teased and she laughed.

"Are your parents still on business?" Logan said frowning. Everytime he came over, their parents were away on business trips and holidays. He didn't like the fact that Candice and Laurie were alone all the time without the parents to help or just be there with him.

"They came back for like a day and then had to go to a conference together" Candice said, the lie slipping easily off her tongue. Laurie stayed silent, snuggling into Logan harder as his arms automatically tightened around her.

Candice handed them both a rum ball and grabbed the remote, feeling quite cheered. Logan being here meant that he would stay the night and he always slept beside her in her bed. Fully clothed of course but hugging and talking until they both fell asleep. Logan also would massage her stomach or her back for her to alleviate her discomfort during her periods, and that would also help her to sleep. He was the best friend a girl could ever have and she knew he would make one lucky guy a hell of a husband.

"What are we watching?" Logan asked interrupting her thoughts.

"Child's Play" Laurie piped up and Logan grimaced.He really hated horror movies and this one in particular freaked him out.

"Laurie picked it" Candice said chuckling as Logan began to look a bit uncomfortable as the movie started.

"Don't you think it's a bit inappropriate for Laurie?" He asked rather desperately.

"I've seen it three times" Laurie said "but we could always watch the ring instead."

"Nope, no way in hell" Logan yelled as the girls laughed.

"Let's just stick with this" he sighed. The movie continued and as it got darker Laurie slowly but surely passed out on top of Logan. He tenderly picked her up and put her in her bed, taking her shoes and socks off and placing the blankets on her. He gave her a kiss on her forehead "Goodnight princess."

Candice was waiting for him. "Do you want to finish the movie" she joked and he threw a cushion at her.

She gave a yawn "I'm about ready to sleep" she admitted standing up awkwardly.

"How about you go change and go to the bathroom" Logan said grabbing the hot water bottle off her "and I'll lock up and fill this for you."

Candice blew him a kiss and disappeared as he filled the kettle and checked all the doors leading outside were locked. He turned off the lights, after filling the hot water bottle and went into Candice's room as she walked back out with a crop top and pajama bottoms. He climbed in first, taking the side next to the wall and she climbed in next to him. Candice lied sideways so that he could spoon her, the hot water bottle on her stomach.

"I love you Logan" she whispered and he kissed her head.

"Love you too babydoll" he murmured, beginning to rub her lower back as she closed her eyes. He kept going, waiting patiently until she fell asleep fully before closing his own eyes to sleep. Neither of them had seen the curious eyes staring into the window or heard the howls of wolves in the distance as they slept, cuddled in each other's arms.
