“I see you have a new footman,” Lavina said, “I did not recognise him when you arrived, so I had no idea who was calling on me.”
“Papa engaged a lot of new servants in London,” Katherine said. “Which means those who have been employed for years will have to ‘pull up their socks’!”
Lavina laughed because this was the sort of remark Katherine would make.
