She was certain there would be parties for him with old friends who would make him happy. After dinner her father read to Lavina the work he had done on his book during the afternoon. She thought it very interesting. She forgot everything else while she listened to him. He read beautifully in his deep cultivated voice. When she listened to him in Church she felt it had an hypnotic quality about it which made even the fidgety choirboys listen. Now he was writing about the places he had visited, especially those in the East. He made her feel as if she could visualise them clearly, so what he was describing was like a picture in front of her. He was writing about India.
