Safe

Damien POV Rose was a magnificent wolf. Anthony’s shock did not surprise me when Luna shifted. For many, werewolves are just a past story, and it's been a while since Fae has interacted with them. Werewolves were portrayed as vicious and their human counterparts as soulless. Luna proved stories told over ages were incorrect. The gateway between our realms was sealed over 500 years ago. I am one who believed the tales as well until I met Luna. Luna was nothing but a bright soul. Her aura was golden, with not a single hint of darkness. I looked forward to learning everything about Luna, her family, and the land she calls home. I feared losing her forever if I helped her return to her family, knowing how close they were. I can’t leave the Fae Kingdom. I have a responsibility to the people. It pained me to even think about it. I had to ensure Luna's safety and convince her to stay in my realm. I softly touched Luna’s wolf, enjoying the soft touch of her fur. I had many unique abilities, but my strongest was my ability to communicate and control animals. “You promise to protect Luna,” Rose said as I held my hand to her. “I will protect her with my life,” I responded, and my statement was true. “Good; we are strong and won’t disappoint you as a mate Damien,” Rose said proudly. I patted the wolf on her head. “I know you are strong, Rose. You are a great companion, but I'm anxious about people who may want to hurt you.” I admitted. Rose bowed her head as we continued walking. “Luna has a great destiny ahead of her and knows well creatures will hunt her for the power we possess. It is a burden Luna shares with her siblings, and her mother and mates battled many times before our existence,” Rose informed me. “It sounds like Luna comes from a powerful family,” I responded. “Luna and her siblings are the product of one of the most powerful hybrids ever to exist in our realm and her three mates who all possess powerful wolves and power as a pure born. Luna and her siblings could prove even stronger than their parents as they come to their full ability,” Rose explained. “What made Luna’s mother so powerful?” I asked. “I’m afraid I can’t tell you. I think Luna needs to be the one to open up to you, Damien, fully. You are earning her trust, and the more she becomes comfortable with you, the more she will open up,” Rose responded. “Do you trust me?” I asked. “I do. I can sense how you are feeling, and I know you want to accept us and you want to help,” Rose responded. We were almost at Willow’s cabin and, luckily, had not run into anyone. “You are doing a great job. We are almost there,” I said as I patted Rose. Anthony looked at me with frustration. I hated asking him to take such a tremendous risk for me, but I knew well when it came down to it, I could trust him. Anthony was also curious about Luna. He just refused to admit it. Willow’s cabin was in view. I was not happy with this plan, but it was safer than the Palace. “Luna, I will tell you when it is safe to shift back, but for the time being, can you remain in your wolf form? “I asked. Luna’s wolf bowed in understanding as Anthony knocked on Willows’s door. Willow answered almost immediately, although she instantly shied away when she looked at me. “Come in,” Willow meekly said as she moved out of the doorway. “The wolf is coming in as well?” She asked, a little confused. “Yes, the wolf is safe.” I simply said as she closed the door behind us. “Where is the girl who will stay here?” Willow asked. “You are not to speak to anyone about her presence in our Kingdom. Is that clear?” I said sternly to Willow. “Yes, I understand very well. I assume this girl has something to do with all the uproar in the kingdom,” Willow stated. “Yes, she does, Willow, and she is very important to me.” “I understand.” Willow bowed her head. “Luna, it’s safe now,” I said as I patted her wolf. Luna shifted back into her human form, clothing fully intact, and stood close to my side. Willow covered her mouth with her hand. “You are a werewolf.” She softly said, scanning Luna with her eyes. “She’s not just a werewolf. She is a Hybrid. Luna is a vampire and werewolf.” Anthony explained. “How fascinating,” Willow said excitedly as she took a few steps closer. “I will keep you safe in my home Luna; please let me show you to your room,” Willow whispered. Luna nodded, but I laced my fingers with hers before she could walk away. “I have one other request. I will come every night undetected to sleep in the room with Luna to ensure her safety.” I said. “Understood; you are welcome in my home anytime, Prince Damien. I have it completely protected. Luna’s room will remain undetected to anyone searching for her.” Willow responded. I looked at Luna. “For now, I ask you never to leave Willow’s house unless I accompany you. Anthony will continue looking for a way to get you home, but it is unsafe outside.” “Ok,” Luna responded. I wanted to stay with Luna and spend the day learning more about her, but I needed to return to the palace. I was unsafe to be here during the day for long periods; otherwise, others would become suspicious. I followed Luna and Willow to the bedroom set up for her and asked for a moment alone. “Luna, I have to return to the palace, but I will return later tonight. I’m sorry I can’t stay.” I said as I looked at her in the eyes. “I will be fine; my wolf can sense Willow will keep us safe,” Luna responded. I was still reluctant to leave Luna. I felt as if I was leaving my most treasured possession behind. “Are you hungry, Luna” Willow asked as I opened the door to her room? Luna nodded her head as Willow looked at me once more. “You are bonded to this girl, aren’t you.?” she asked. Being truthful was a requirement to entrust Luna's safety with Willow. “Yes,” I admitted. Willow gave me a soft smile. “I know the feeling very well, Prince Damien. I was also bonded to my late mate and will be forever grateful and in your debt for your efforts to rescue him from the dark fae. I know your effort was before knowing he was a Hybrid, but I’m sure you can tell now how connected you feel once bonded. Fang was a shifter, just like Luna.” Willow said softly with a hint of sadness. I could never imagine losing Luna, so I knew exactly how she felt now. I nodded my head in appreciation as Anthony and I took my leave. I looked back at the Cabin as we left. My entire body felt empty from the lack of Luna’s presence. “I kind of like you this way.” Anthony blurted out as we walked. “What do you mean?” I asked. “It’s nice to see you care about something, Damien. I have not once seen you smile with actual happiness or joy until yesterday. I can’t say I’m thrilled about why it’s nice.” Anthony admitted. "I never thought I'd feel like this, so I'll fight for Luna to stay with me," I said as we headed back to the palace.
