The Book

Luna POV Willow’s small cabin had a very welcoming and cozy vibe about it. Rose, my wolf, was a judge of character and instantly warmed up to the kind Fae welcoming us into her home. Willow nicely made up my bedroom with a Queen size bed, a sitting chair, and a dresser, already stocked with several outfits for me. The bedroom also had a bathroom with a decent-sized soaking tub. From the window, I could see a small stream near to the back of the property. I could only imagine how relaxing the trickling water sounded, but I would follow as Damien ordered and stay inside. An amazing scent greeted my nose traveling from the kitchen as Willow prepared us a meal. Despite the risk, she showed great hospitality towards a stranger like me, and I was grateful. Willow set her dining table with two settings and instructed me to make myself comfortable as she plated the food and brought it to the table. A delicious tomato bisque with homemade garlic cheese rolls was placed before me, making my stomach rumble. It had been over a day since I had a proper meal, and the food she prepared looked delicious. “Please feel at home here, Luna,” Willow said with a smile as she sat down to eat with me. “Thank you very much. This meal looks delicious,” I said as I took a small bite, savoring the flavor. “Mmm, we have amazing cooks back home at the palace, but this is by far the best soup I have ever tasted,” I said aloud. “So you are from a palace as well?” Willow asked. I was unsure how much about my true self I should reveal, but Willow was housing me and had a right to know who I was. “Yes, my mother is the Queen of hybrids,” I admitted. “Well, it is an honor to have you in my home, Princess Luna,” Willow said with a smile as we continued eating. “So Damien, he is almost three hundred years old,” I asked as I finished the soup. “Yes, he is. Damien may be young, but he is a powerful leader who has always stood by his father, the King.” Willow responded. I swallowed loudly. Three hundred were young. I must be viewed as a baby.. “How old are you, Luna, if you don’t mind me asking?” Willow asked. “I’m eighteen,” I responded softly. Willow let out a small giggle. “Damien seems ancient to you then, but he is still a young man. We stop aging as we reach early adulthood, but a fae as young as Damien is still considered a young adult.” Willow explained. “I stopped aging as well now that I’m eighteen, but that’s all thanks to my vampire side,” I admitted. “I see. I have never met a vampire, but I have known many shifters. I have been alive a long time and met my mate before the gateway between realms was closed.” Willow chimed. “I hope someday the gateway can remain open again,” I whispered, thinking about my family. “I wish that as well, but I don’t know if that will ever be possible,” Willow responded. “If Damien finds a way home for me, what does that mean for us? I need to see my family again, and although I don’t want to lose Damien, I also can’t give up my family.” I said out loud. “I understand you are worried, Luna. Damien is the Prince of this realm, and the Kingdom needs him to take over when his father steps down. I can’t ask you to give up your family for him, but I can already tell you how much the Prince cares for you. I have never seen Damien smile before, let alone go to the effort he has to protect you. I hope he can find a way for you to see your family again, but you and Damien are together for a reason.” Willow responded. Tears welled in my eyes, thinking about the decision I may have to make in the future. Willow cleared the plates from the table and approached me, handing me a book. “This book was given to me by my mate long ago, Luna, and I believe it may talk about you and Damien. If you flip it open, you will see a drawing of a white wolf with black paws standing at the side of a dark wing fae.” Willow said as she pointed out the drawing. The wolf was Rose, without a doubt. The details matched her exactly, and as I traced my fingers over the Fae, it was clear it was Damien and his beautiful feathered wings. “Damien is the only one known in our realm to have wings like a bird,” Willow informed me as I continued looking over the photo. I flipped to the next page, but the text was foreign. “I cannot read the text as well, but I can make out some details in the drawings throughout the book,” Willow admitted as she flipped the page to the next drawing. The next image depicted a female like me standing in shallow water, holding an arrow made of water aimed at a dark creature that was hard to make out. I traced my fingers over the creature, and as I did, an image flashed in my mind of the same monster, but clearer hovering over me while I slept. That was the beast attacking me in my dreams. “It looks like you have already crossed paths with the beast. Haven’t you?.” Willow asked. I could never remember my nightmares, but I was certain it was the monster from my dreams. My whole body trembled as I continued to look at the page. “I have,” I whispered. “It has already started,” Willow said as she shook her head. “What has started?” I asked, more frightened now. “That beast is the product of the dark fae experimenting on mixing species, and it is said to be controlled by the dark fae king. My mate discovered its existence and went to the dark fae Kingdom to destroy it, but it cost him his life. The beast is unknown to anyone but a select few. Damien does not even know about it. “Willow responded. “What does it want with me?” I asked. Willow flipped the page to a new drawing. It was another drawing of me, but it looked like someone was transferring my power to the beast. “It wants my power.” I whimpered. “The dark fae already know about you, Luna; if the book is right, you control water and hold great power within you. If that power were transferred to that beast, it would be unstoppable. The dark fae could take over the entire realm. You and Damien will be together. Damien is the strongest warrior and the only one who stands any chance against that beast, and the two of you united would become the most powerful rulers this realm has ever seen.” Willow explained as she flipped the page to a photo of Damien holding me and a golden light pouring out around us. “The two of you save this realm. The dark fae are growing stronger, and even with the promise of marriage between Silver and Damien, a war is coming. The two of you have the power to stop that from ever occurring. If you have seen the beast, it is already slowly taking your energy. “Willow said as she shook her head. Willow took the necklace she was wearing and put it around my neck. “This is a very special charm. It detects when dark magic is being used. Keep this on at all times, and it will at least provide some warning when the beast is near.” “Thank you,” I responded I looked out of the window. It was already getting dark. The two of us spent hours talking. “I’m sure Damien will find a way back soon, Luna. How about you go to your room and rest? Please let me know if you need anything, and if you feel that beast again and Damien is not near, get me immediately. I can help ward it off.” Willow stated. “Thank you for your kindness and protection,” I said as I got up and headed to my room. I wish there were a way to rid myself of my power sometimes, but I would be brave, like my sister, and fight whatever this was. I'm resilient and won't let anything take away what I love..
