Kimberly "....Was he always like this or...." I paused as I tried to think of a better way to ask the question without giving the wrong idea. "Master was ....." The door opened before Linda could finish what she was about to say. I raised my head to see Kendrick come in with a deep and murderous frown plastered on his face. His demeanour looked like he was about to murder the entire world. "You should ask that to me, not her," his baritone sounded cold and murderous. I jumped out of bed and landed on my feet. Linda was already on her knees. Her eyes were teary as she kowtowed. She couldn't dare to look at Kendrick. After all, she had been caught gossiping about her devilish boss. "Ken.....Master...." I stuttered, totally confused on what to call the man. "Lord Kendrick," I finally settled for the one he had told me himself. "I didn't mean to....." I gathered courage and decided to explain myself, but I was stopped by his deadly glare. I bit my lips and swallowed the rest of the words. His eyes were bloodshot and deadly. I knew I was in for yet another torture. "Out!" He ordered in his strong commanding baritone. I flinched and staggered towards the door, but I felt a strong pair of hand grab my wrist and tug me. I fell into his arms and my face landed on his hard chest. The door clicked shut and I turned to see that Linda was nowhere to be seen. I sighed as I realised that the order was for her, not me. What will he do to me now? He flipped me around and I came face to face with him, his bloody eyes stared down at me. His eyes deepened as he looked at me, and his brows knitted before he stepped backwards, leaving a small gap between us. "How am I?" His voice echoed in my ear, but I couldn't give a response as I was bothered by his scent. His cedarwood and mint scent made me feel somewhat giddy. I brushed my hand through my nostrils as if to ward off the scent but it was so strong and compelling that it affected me in a way I couldn't explain. Which made me wonder why I didn't know he smelled so good. Was it because I was so pissed the day before about my sudden marriage to this demon that I didn't realise he had such a cool scent to him? 'No, it's because I was trying to be sure if what I felt was true,' Zara replied in my head. I couldn't understand what Zara was talking about. What did she mean by what she felt? 'What did you feel?' I asked, confused as to what she meant. 'I smelled our mate,' she stated, further confusing me. 'Our mate?' I repeated, perplexed. I've always wanted to meet my mate and live happily ever after with him, but that didn't happen. Why did it have to happen now that I was married to this devil? 'Yes. And think it's Kendrick.' I gasped at Zara's proclamation and I looked in Kendrick's direction. He seemed to be saying something, but I wasn't interested. I was more interested in understanding what Zara was saying. 'Kenderick?' I repeated with a scoff. 'I wasn't sure the day before because he managed to suppress his wolf, but I'm sure now because I can sense him.' My jaw dropped as I looked at the man again. I shook my head unbelievably. It couldn't possibly be. I mean, of all the places that I could find my mate it had to be in Kendrick's hell. And if all the people that could be my mate, it had to be the devil himself. No way! 'Trust me, Kim, he is our mate.' Zara ascertained, further frightening me. I was so lost in my conversation with Zara that I didn't realise that Kendrick was close. He was infuriated and he glared at me like he would swallow me up at any moment. "Speak up!" He yelled as his hand tightened around my neck, skillfully shaking me back to my senses. "I'm sorry," I could only mutter an apology since I didn't know what he had asked. I wasn't listening. I was lost in the abyss of pain over my new discovery. "Sorry?" He scoffed, his voice was laced with so much bitterness that I couldn't understand why. Was this all because I had asked to know about him? Or was this still because I disobeyed him? "I...." He released his hold on me and I coughed as I struggled to get air into my lungs. "What am I?" He asked, confusing me. I raised my head to look at him. Maybe he would elucidate his question. "What am I like?" He asked the same question again. Oh, he was referring to the question I had asked Linda before. "You're a great....." I paused as I pushed the word villain out of my tongue. "Hero," I immediately added. His eyes narrowed, and a dangerous smirk appeared on his face. "Hero? Really?" He scoffed. "Yes," I nodded and I could swear that I saw a smile appear on his face. "You're a great...Hero." I repeated to make my word sound sincere. He turned and I saw his head bending sideways as he mumbled something incoherent. "You can rest," he pointed at the bed and I immediately crawled towards the bed without waiting to be told for the second time. I wrapped myself up in the duvet and sighed in relief at my narrow escape. At least he didn't sentence me to death for trying to find out about him. He went towards the bathroom and came out dressed in a black pyjamas. The top button was left open to reveal his bear-like body. He looked so different that I could almost say he wasn't the same person that almost strangled me to death earlier. He looked so handsome and innocent. As he got closer, I was again attacked by his scent. I stood up involuntarily and went towards him, sniffing loudly. "What are you doing?" He asked with his arms folded across his chest. I bit my lips to stop the words that were about to roll out, but I just couldn't control it. It felt as if my mouth had gotten a mind of its own. I stood on the bed to match his height. When I was sure that I could look into his eyes. I didn't know what had come over me, but it seemed like the best opportunity to ask him the question that had me so bothered and flustered. "Are you my mate?”
