"Are you my mate?"
His eyes narrowed as he looked at me. His nose squeezed in disgust as if I had just mention something irritating.
"Mate?" He repeated like he hadn't heard me the first time. "With you?" He made it sound like it was the most ridiculous thing he had ever heard.
"Yes," I nodded ignorantly.
Since I had decided to ask, there was no harm in getting an answer, was there?
"Really?" He scoffed before taking one heavy step towards me. "Didn't that sound like the joke of the year?" He chuckled eerily.
I felt goosebumps cover me at his evil chuckle.
Why was he making it sound as if it was a terrible idea to be mated to me? My wolf had confirmed it and I was sure that he must have felt the bond at some point.
Judging from his reaction after I told him, I was very sure that he knew about the bond before i did, but he chose to ignore it.
Well, I wasn't planning on accepting the bond either.
I mean, why would I agree to being mated to a monster like Kendrick?
"Well, I only just found out so I....." I paused as I noticed that his eyes had darkened.
I wondered how he was able to switch his eyes to portray different emotions like anger, rage displeasure and others.
"Forget it," he waved in dismissal. "We aren't mated." He denied it as expected of a blood sucking monster like Kendrick.
"But my wolf confirmed it," I foolishly emphasized.
I didn't even know what I was hoping to gain from his acceptance.
"And I say no," he stated as a matter of fact.
His hand lifted my chin and I looked up at his bloody eyes as he said, "And my words are final."
"And what about the moon goddess's wish?" I blurted before realizing that I had overstepped.
"Moon goddess?" His brows furrowed and his lip let out a mellowed hiss. "Who is that again?"
The man was quite annoying. I mean who doesn't know who the goddess was in the werewolf world?
I rolled my eyes and ignored his question.
"I bet your wolf would know if I am your mate or not," I replied, refusing to be intimidated by him.
After all, finding my mate was a dream I had nurtured for a long time and even if i was married already, there was no harm finding out who my mate was. Especially when Zara was so sure that it was Kendrick.
His scent was so alluring that I wondered why I didn't smell it before now.
"Good," he agreed with a nod. "But my wolf said no such thing to me." He shrug, his anger seemed to have dissipated or could it be that he didn't seem it right to be mad at someone like me.
"Alright then," I muttered.
It was no use arguing with him. If he doesn't want me as his mate, I also do not want him.
However, Zara was obstinate. She knew he was our mate, and she was restless. She wanted his acceptance.
"Why not let my wolf meet yours and we'll know if we're mated or not," I mumbled.
His eyes glowed dangerously as shot me a demonic glare.
"How dare you!" He barked, startling me.
I flinched and cowered in fear as he approached me. Without a doubt, I knew I had gotten myself in trouble.
"You want to meet my wolf?" He growled.
He stretched his hand to grab me and I noticed that his body was covered in furs. His teeth elongated and his eyes glowed.
My mouth hung open as I stared at him, wondering how he was able to do that.
How was he able to shift without shifting completely. Only lycans were known to possess such abilities.
Was Kendrick a Lycan?
I stared wide eyed at the man in front of me. He was half transformed.
"No one sees my wolf and remained alive," he spoke in a voice that was different from his previous baritone.
He sounded like a demon.
I looked around me in search for an escape route as I was reminded of Linda's words. If this room was prohibited for everyone except Kendrick and it happened to be the place where he murdered all his prey, then could it be that he was about to kill me?
I jumped off the bed and ran towards the door, but was caught before I could open it.
"Where do you think you're going?" His demonic voice rang in my hear, sending jolts of fear through me. "Didn't you want to meet my wolf?"
His head twisted sideways in a an abnormal way. I gulped and immediately shook my head.
"No....No...." I waved my hands in denial. "I do not intend to meet your wolf. Not at all."
"Too late," he hissed as he picked me up by my clothes, lifting me up like I weighed nothing.
He walked towards the open window and my eyes widened as I realized what he was about to do.
I struggled to jump out of his arms, but his grip was strong that I couldn't break free from his grasp.
He put out his hand and I dangled like a tiny object in his grasp. I looked behind me and I became dizzy as I saw the height from where I was dangling.
Could it be what I was thinking?
No. I shook my head in denial. There was no way he would drop me from such a height.
He wouldn't, would he?
I noticed his grip on me was starting to loose. I could feel my hand trembling as beads of sweat formed on my forehead.
My spine was covered in cold sweat as I looked down repeatedly.
"Please, do not drop me." I begged, holding on desperately to his fur covered hand.
His head twisted sideways as he looked at me, his eyes was totally different this time. It felt as if he had transformed into something else.
"Please Kendrick" I begged frightfully then it dawn on me that I had said the wrong thing again.
Before I got to apologize and rephrase, his grip loosened completely. He had dropped me.
Kendrick had dropped me from the window of a twelve storey building.
I closed my eyes and succumbed to fate as I embraced my death. After all, dying meant freedom.
Freedom from this selfish world and the blood Lord.
