Rune ran his fingers through his hair, letting out a frustrated sigh. His mind had been chaotic and it was because of one woman only. Hera.
He was the Alpha King of Blood-stone and he didn't need to be told how terrifying his aura was. Everyone cowered before him. The council shivered at his presence. His betas were not the most cooperative sometimes but they knew when to take him seriously.
But not Hera. That woman had to be the strangest woman he had ever laid eyes on and it wasn't because she wasn't beautiful. Everyone with eyes would know that she wasn't bad to look at but underneath all that beauty was a crazy woman with no ounce of fear.
Despite the fact that he tried to intimidate her with his icy aura on several occasions, she just wouldn't budge and it was starting to get to him. She treated him like they were peers for f**k's sake. Peers! He was the damn king of Blood-Stone, not some crazy woman’s friend.
At this point, she might as well be the king and he the prisoner. Maybe he should just hand over his crown and throne to her. Rune scoffed at the ridiculousness of it all. Damn that woman!
He was currently pacing around in the throne room when a royal guard announced the arrival of his betas. He let out a loud groan. It was from one problem to another, wasn't it?
Knox and Asha rushed into the throne room, looking frazzled and agitated and he raised a confused eyebrow.
“What's with you two?” He asked in an amused tone and Knox looked at him like he had just grown two heads.
“Why the hell are you not dressed, Rune?”
Rune’s confusion only intensified. “Dressed? For what?” He looked at his clothes and they seemed fitting enough. “I think my clothes look good enough for the day.”
“Are you serious right now? Shouldn't you stand outside to welcome her? She'll be arriving soon,” Asha said and Rune was mistaken. She wasn't agitated. She was clearly pissed and she turned to Knox.
“I swear to the goddess, if she f*****g pisses me off, I'll break both her arms.”
Knox’s eyes widened as he raised his hands in exasperation. “Asha! I’ve told you so many times that you cannot break the arms of the King's fiancée!” He exclaimed and Rune's eyes widened.
“Wait, what?” He said in complete confusion and the two betas slowly turned to him.
“Rune? You didn't forget that your fiancée is coming back to the palace today, did you?” Knox said and Rune let out a gasp.
“Oh, s**t!” He exclaimed and Asha rolled her eyes, pinching the bridge of her nose in frustration.
“What the hell, Rune? You forgot? Again?!”
“Have you forgotten what happened the last time?” Knox chipped in, almost losing his s**t. “The palace was chaotic for almost a week! She threw a f*****g tantrum for a week and no one in the palace had any peace of mind!”
“You know how she gets when things don't go her way, Rune. I'd rather not have her disturbing my sanity this week.” Asha complained and Rune had enough. An headache was starting to build and at this rate, his head could just split open at any f*****g second.
“I know! I know!” He replied aggressively, running his fingers through his hair but he couldn't run his fingers all the way through because of his heavy crown. This was all turning out to be a huge nightmare. How on earth did he forget that Leah was returning to the palace today?
Leah was his fiancée and she wasn't exactly the easiest woman to please. Some people called her nasty and others called her a witch but he wouldn't go that far. She was a huge piece of work but at the end of the day, she was his fiancée and he owed her that respect.
When he called Leah a piece of work, he meant it. Sometimes, she came off as whiny or bitchy but those were people's words not his, although he thought that way at times. She was so particular about a lot of things that it tended to give people a headache.
Leah cared too much about the way people dressed and acted around her and the affairs of the palace that weren't her business to care about in the first place and it was exhausting.
He had been so caught up in everything that had been going on lately that he completely forgot that she would be arriving from her long trip today and to say the palace was about to become chaotic would be an understatement.
Rune let out an exasperated sigh. “Look, I'll go change and meet you two outside, alright?”
He was going to get changed not because he wanted to but because he couldn't bear to hear a three hour lecture on how important his public image was from Leah. He would probably lose his s**t.
“Fine. Hurry.” Knox said before the two betas swiftly exited the throne room. Rune left shortly after, hurrying down the passages and furiously swearing under his breath till he reached his chamber.
He took off his crown, looked into the closet in a hurry before selecting one of the clothes Leah personally handpicked for him. This was one of her favorites and he decided that it should do.
It was a purple, long sleeved, velvet vest with matching pants and golden designs all over it. He wore it carefully to make sure he didn't get it wrinkled, arranged his tousled hair as well as he could, threw on his royal robe and finally placed his shimmery crown on his head.
He took a peek at his reflection and nodded in satisfaction. He was ready. Usually, his manservant or the maid servants dressed him up but there was simply no time today and judging from his reflection, it looked like he did a pretty good job.
He wasn't at all scared of Leah but sometimes, he had to do things to please her as much as he could because she could be a royal b***h when she felt like it.
