CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX

1066 Words
Rune found Knox and Asha outside and he was not surprised to see the betas bickering like children. “Asha! How many times do I have to repeat myself? You cannot snap off her arm! She is a royal!” Knox yelled, waving his arms in complete frustration and Rune couldn't blame him. Asha could be a piece of work too. Come to think of it. The three women in his life right now were all stubborn and unnecessarily headstrong. His beta, his fiancée and— Rune was stumped at Hera. He couldn't figure out what she was to him. Maybe she was nothing to him. Nothing more than his prisoner. “I can’t help it, Knox,” Asha replied. “I can't stand that woman. She annoys me so damn much and you know how much I hate it when people annoy me.” Knox rolled his eyes, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Violence doesn't solve everything, Asha. Calm down. Just stand still and welcome her like everyone else.” “Just keep her as far away from me as possible because I am not making any promises.” Asha said and Knox let out a sigh, shaking his head. He glanced at Rune and gave him an exasperated look which Rune returned. It was like their eyes said the same thing. Women! What wonderful creatures. Rune and his betas were currently waiting outside with a couple of guards just the way Leah liked it and soon, they heard a couple of horses in the distance. He let out a relieved sigh, wiping the perspiration from his brow. The woman of the hour was finally here. “Great. Finally.” He heard Asha say and he rolled his eyes with a smile on his face. A large carriage arrived and a large array of horses with guards and maidservants flocking behind. The carriage came to a halt in front of them and one of the guards went to open it. Inside the carriage sat Rune's lovely fiancée and once her eyes landed on him, a huge smile graced her face. One that showed her pearly white teeth. But don't let that sweet, innocent smile deceive you. That woman might have been sent from the depths of hell. Rune carefully helped her out of the carriage and her smile widened even more as she stood in front of him. “Have you been well?” Leah asked him and he nodded. “I have. How was your trip?” He asked and her eyes lit up. “Splendid. The Luna queen of the Silver stone pack was a delight,” She replied, glowing in the sunlight. She obviously had a great time on her trip. Leah was invited by the luna queen of one of the neighboring werewolf towns who also happened to be her close friend and it appeared that the two women had a good time. Leah took a step closer to Rune and brushed a lint off his robes which he was pretty sure was invisible. Rune knew for a fact that his clothes were extremely clean and lint-free and Rune found his fiancée's gesture so annoying. She didn't need to treat him like a child when he was the freaking Alpha King of Blood-stone. “Did you miss me while I was gone, Rune?” She said with a twinkle in her chocolate brown eyes and Rune forced a smile on his face. “Of course. Everyone missed you.” He found himself saying and Leah winked at him before stalking toward the betas and Rune was by her side instantly. “Hey, it's nice seeing you two again,” She said to them and her eyes lingered on Asha, slightly narrowing. “Come on, Asha. Stand up straight. You're a lady, not a servant.” Leah said in such a condescending tone that at that moment, Rune was scared for his fiancée's arms. He wouldn't be surprised if Asha snapped them off like she promised. “And you're not my mother,” Asha said through gritted teeth. “I'll advise you watch your tongue or else—” “Okay!” Knox cut in, trying to salvage the already tense situation. “Leah, we’re so glad to have you back,” He said, grabbing the fuming Asha by the arm and pulling her away. “All right everyone, let's get all this stuff into the palace.” He said to the maidservants and guards while holding on tightly to Asha. Asha glared daggers at Leah but she didn't struggle against Knox's hold and she let him lead her toward the palace. Rune escorted Leah into the palace with the servants and guards in tow. The sounds of their footsteps on the floor echoed around the passageway but just then, the loud sound of one of luggages clattering to the ground filled the area and they all turned to the source of the sound. It appeared that one of the maid servants had dropped Leah's luggage on the ground and the servants around were all clamoring to pick up her stuff. “Oh no.” Rune heard Knox mutter under his breath and he knew exactly what Knox meant. From the way Leah's eyes flashed, he knew she was going to cause a scene. It was simply inevitable. Rune quickly held her arm, spinning her around to face him and he couldn't understand for the life of him why she looked so mad over such a small matter. The maid servant obviously made a mistake. She could just let it go but he knew that was just wishful thinking. That was not how Leah did things. She never let things go. “Leah,” Rune began, trying to talk some sense into her. “Do not cause a scene. You just got back from a trip. Let it go alright?” He tried but he knew Leah wasn't listening to a word of what he said. She shrugged his hands off her and Rune let out an exasperated sigh as she stalked off to the maidservant. Whatever she was going to do to the poor lady was not going to be pleasant. He could guarantee that. Leah stood in front of the cowering maidservant and Rune's eyes widened as his fiancée landed a resounding slap on the poor lady's face.
