They got back home—the pack’s property had become that the moment the old trailer had gone up in flames—around seven in the evening. There was plenty of time before midnight, and they even got to have dinner with the whole pack and the visitors.
Once they’d eaten their New Year’s feast, Kyler cleared his throat and looked at Mateo.
“Could I talk to you for a bit? In private?” he asked, knowing he needed to do this to get even more closure.
Mateo’s dark brows rose a little, then he glanced at Wes, who gave him a little smile. Mateo looked back at Kyler. “Of course. Should we go on a walk?”
Feeling relieved, Kyler nodded. “Yeah, that works.”
“Okay, let’s go.”
“If you’re not back in half an hour, I can’t guarantee you any dessert,” Marek called after them.
