VIOLET 6

He was a prince, a real life wolf prince. I had been given a prince as a mate. Knowing that he was more than that was what was really grounding. He was a prince but he wasn't high and mighty. He was soft spoken, he didn't do anything but apologize to my dad when he was getting angry about us moving to his country. When my dad had done that I hadn't had an issue with moving away. I always wanted to travel. I wanted to see other countries, I got to see little pieces of the world through pictures my sisters and brothers when they come back from visiting their mates families. I heard him talk about me on the phone, and I saw the small smile on his face. I gave him a smile back and then he looked like he was worried and then they were saying goodbye. "Were you talking to your sister in law?" I asked and he shook his head and came closer. "With how emotional Patty is she would have been crying and screaming so loud you would have heard her through the phone. No... that was Dimitri. He wanted to apologize for what Ivan did when I was there last. And he asked why I didn't want to come home, so I told him. I found you, and I am meeting your family and getting to know you... and he warned me that I had about 2 weeks before I am demanded home by my aunt and uncle and he is going to be forced to tell them about you." "2 weeks?" I asked making sure I heard that right. "Yes. I know you were talking wedding plans, and I knew there would be a limited time here with you, and your family before anything else happens... but that is also why I offered my card so we can do it as soon as possible and still make you happy with the results." He told me and I just licked my lips. A white wedding, a big white snowy wedding here at home... that wouldn't need that much money. "All I really want is the dress, the food, the party." I told him with a shrug. "Your family and my family." I told him and he looked at me, really just looked over my face and I had to wonder why he was pausing with this. "You want my family there?" He asked and I felt a little worried. "Aren't they at all weddings in your family? You were at your brothers?" "They didn't get married. We usually don't do weddings. I don't mind doing it with you, I have no say in it one way or the other. However you're happy to have one, and I am happy to pay for it." He told me and I was confused. "So... you don't want to have a wedding and marriage ceremony?" "If you want one I do." He told me and I just nodded slowly. "And before that, we should tell your family who I really am." "That would be a good starting point. I sort of can't believe that my dad kind of went off like that." I wondered if he had done that with my brother in laws as well. Forcing them to all stay here. "He is in his right. You are his youngest. I know what it is like to be the youngest, always being treated like a kid... you're probably used to the good treatment I can tell you had." He told me and I shrugged lightly. I had been given basically all that I wanted. I didn't want much as a kid but when I wanted new skates I just had to say how tight my others ones were before I woke up with new skates on the table the next morning. My siblings were treated the same way, but when Costin was an adult... I was the one that was coddled the most because my mom and dad seemed to realize that we were all growing up so fast and she had to hold on as long as possible. "Can we tell my family the truth?" "Whenever you want. If there is another family dinner tonight I can come clean then." He told me and I just took a breath and nodded thinking about how well that would go over tonight. "We usually have a couple of my siblings over for dinner a night but usually it's just Sunday nights are for all family and a run." I told him but knew that maybe it would be a good thing to tell less people. Then have it spread like thawing water in a creek. "We can tell who shows up tonight and then they will tell everyone else and then we don't have to worry about too many questions. Until then... let's have some fun?" "What kind of fun?" He asked but I had so many ideas coming through my mind that I just reached for him, taking his hand and heading to the ski and snowboard rental place. My brother Fane was working in there and he seemed to already know about dad's freak out. While my mate took his time looking for the board for him height, I heard him coming closer. "So... moving to Russia? You weren't given the talk about how you have to stay?" Fane asked and I just sighed before turning to face him with my board in my hand. "We talked about it after we left dad and mom. We can't stay here." I told him and he looked from my mate behind me to me and then waiting like I was just going to tell him everything without being asked. "You know me Fane... you don't ask I won't tell." "Ok... fine, just tell me if you need me to talk about something else like babies or sales or something at dinner tonight when dad starts talking about it." He told me and kissed my cheek before going back behind the counter. What we took was a free rental since we were free and we worked at the resort. I got on the ski lift with no help and I watched my mate almost slip before getting his back to the back. We had clipped our boots into place and we were waiting all the way to the top of the mountain we had run last night. I had basically grabbed everything for the day in one stop at the rental hut. We had our goggles, our jackets and boots. We were good with the rest of the items since we were wolves. We ran hot so we didn't get hypothermia easily, that took off  most of the outer gear like snow pants and gloves. We got to the top and he slipped off like a natural and I started to move my hips back and forth. He unclipped his board, had it in one hand and he moved to grab me around my waist and hauled me a safe distance away before we were ready to head down. I waited for him to get his board back on, he slipped his goggles into place and I smiled as I pulled mine down as well. "First one down choose what we do next." I told him and I saw the smirk on his face. "Ready... go." I shouted and he put his right foot down a bit hard and started to slide down the hill. I did the same, skidding just slightly so I wasn't slowing myself down, but with his weight, height and apparent skill he knew how to keep himself ahead of me until he had a great lead. I tried to keep up, getting behind him so I could use his trail. I still wasn't catching up as he was gliding down the hill like he was last night as a wolf. He had run up here in his giant wolf form like it was nothing, like he wasn't getting caught on the thin air. I watched him on his board, it was like he did this for a living. I knew there was snow in Russia, but there was no way he had gone to mountains like this every day. He must have some kind of training in it to be this good especially if he hadn't been boarding in a couple months. He beat me down by 500 feet at least and when he turned back and smiled at me I found it hard to be upset that I lost. If I had been with any of my siblings I would have cheated or won on principal. Even my brothers weren't as good as he is. I unbuckled my feet as he did and we walked back into the rental shop and I saw Fane and Molina having lunch together. "What is for lunch today?" "Stroganoff... I am guessing that Amara had an idea for it." She shot her eyes behind me to look at my mate and I smiled as he laughed at the little joke as well. "Shall we get lunch as well then?" I heard my mate ask me and I nodded and made sure to grab his hand as we left the rental and headed back for the big resort rooms and that was when I kind of had a little insecurity. The rooms here were fabulous, we were known to have great rooms in the resort, that was what he was expecting when eh came here... and I made a prince sleep in my little house, in my little bed and shower in my little room. "You know we can get a room here." I told him as we got to the small line to be seated. He didn't seem to mind waiting in line... usually I snuck in and got what I wanted ahead of the line but here we were... a prince and his mate waiting in a line. "Do you know you get a little line just here..." He touched the middle of my eye brows. "When you look worried about something. Tell me what's worrying you." "I made you sleep in my little bed in my little house-" "You didn't make me." "And now we are waiting in line as if we both can't skip it." I told him when he tried to cut me off and he looked around before down at me. "You don't make me do anything, just as I wouldn't make you do anything. You're mine Violet, and together we make decisions that are ours to make. If I could live here, that would be something we could talk about, but that is out of my hands. If you want to get a room here with me we can, but you love your house, and it is a little small but I am also a big man." He wasn't shy as he shrugged and looked at himself. "When I take you home... you will see why I don't care about size. Your house is sweet and homey and that's where we can stay. However if there is a bridal sweet you would like to use before we marry I don't mind being away from you a single night like... normal people do." He used that word a little loosely and I knew it was because we were in mixed company. There were other wolves here... but some patrons were humans. "I am just saying... if you want to get a room here, or cut through the line-" "I am not saying any of that. I will follow your lead. Violet, you are my mate, and yes if getting a room here made you happy I will do that but I am not unhappy in any way to stay at your home. Nor am I going to cut a line other people have been waiting in just because I am hungry. We are all hungry." He laughed lightly and moved his hand around my shoulders, angling down so he could hold my waist and he and I stepped forward a couple of times until my sister in law Serena saw us and just waved us in. I walked and he followed and he nodded to a the couple in front of us as they watched us head into the back. I grabbed plates and a table most of the staff eat at and he did the same, with some of everything on his plate... well everything but stroganoff. "Are you not going to eat what was obviously made for you?" I asked with a laugh and he smiled as he looked at my own plate. "I actually don't like stroganoff. My oldest brother Vlad and I ate four or five plates of it once, it was delicious... at least it was going down. I don't think the cook we had made it correctly because while we liked it, it made us sick, and not just us... we just had the most of it. Ever since i don't like the taste in my mouth." "What were you doing with so many plates?" "There was a point when I was about 10 that Vlad was a small role model for me. He was weight training, getting in shape, getting bigger, he ate way more than me... but I wanted to be like him so I ate what he did and that was about day three or four and... after I got sick I did not follow in his footsteps." "So no stroganoff for you." He shook his head before digging into the meat pies that someone had made today. He ate a little prim and proper. I could see how he was poised and humble but also neat and .... royal like. His fork placement, the curve going down to the plate instead of up. Cutting every bite into small portions so he didn't stuff his face... he never even had to use his napkin. My mate was a prince... and he ate like a prince, walked like a prince... if princes quacked he would probably do it too. My mate... was a prince. "You have that worry line again." He told me as he looked up, and he only said it after he finished what he had put in his mouth so he wasn't eating while talking. "You're a prince." I told him and he smiled and nodded. "You eat and walk and talk and... everything like a prince." "Is there a way to eat like a prince?" "How you hold your fork, how you never stuff your face... cutting small bite sized pieces …" I told him and he smiled as he looked down at his mostly empty plate. "Not sure how that means I am a prince. My aunt was very... she was very demanding that we do not get dirty and that we didn't scratch the plates. I am a very neat person, I don't like being a slob... I think I am the only one in my family that eats how I eat. I assure you when you see my brothers eat you will be slightly disgusted." He laughed lightly and I just nodded but bit my lip as he rubbed his clean face with his napkin. "What shall we do now?" I asked knowing that eating didn't count as his idea of the next fun thing we could do. "I think I have an idea." He smiled and I just felt a little lost. He told me to finish as he looked for the bathroom and then he took off and told me he would be back to collect me.
