Alexandria POV
"I'm sorry, Alexa, but Cody needs the surgery as soon as possible," Doctor Martin, informed me about my son's health. "If you keep delaying this, his condition could worsen, and you might lose your son."
"No," I quickly interjected. There was no way I was willing to let go of my son. It wasn't that I was deliberately delaying the surgery; the truth was that I didn't have enough money to cover the cost. The small amount I could come up with was not even half of what they were asking for, and I didn't want to burden Mark with all the financial responsibility.
"I will find a way to come up with the required amount, but can you proceed with the surgery?" I asked the doctor. However, Martin shook his head in response.
"I have to decline your wish, Alexandria," he told me with a sigh. "The caregiver informed me that you haven't paid her for months, and you still owe the hospital some medical bills. Under these circumstances, it's not possible to proceed with the surgery. I'm sorry, but there's nothing I can do right now. I just wish you could come up with the money requested to help little Cody, who is in pain." He tapped me on the shoulder and walked away.
Feeling overwhelmed, I sighed deeply and leaned against the door, closing my eyes. Memories of the day Cody was born flooded my mind. Unlike his siblings, he was much smaller in size. That day, I cried when the doctor announced that he had heart disease. Since then, he had been in the hospital, unable to be with his siblings. I had no idea why he was like that, and I kept hoping that he would be healed once his Lycan side awakened. But that would take years, and who knows if he would still be alive by then?
I hated taking risks, and I pushed those thoughts aside, hoping to find a way to save my son. While lost in my thoughts, my phone rang in my pocket. I took it out and saw that it was Mark calling.
"Hello, Mark," I muttered into the phone, making sure my voice held no emotions. I didn't want him to suspect anything.
"Crazy Dog is asking for you," he informed me.
"I'm on my way," I said and hung up the phone. "What are you going to do now, Alexandria?" I sighed deeply and stared through the window of my son's room, watching as he lay weakly on the bed. "Cody," I sniffled, blinking back tears. "I will make sure to protect you," I muttered and then left the hospital.
When I arrived at the restaurant, it was busy, and I quickly began working by Mark's side. For a few hours, we had a lot of orders, and I tried my best to keep the issue surrounding Cody out of my mind. However, the doctor's words kept ringing in my head, affecting me deeply. I accidentally cut my palm while absentmindedly watching the blood flow, and then I hit my leg against the kitchen cabinet.
This caught Mark's attention, and he exchanged looks with me several times. But because he was busy, he didn't ask any questions. A few minutes later, Crazy Dog burst into the kitchen.
"Who is in charge of cooking for Table 6?" he yelled at everyone in the kitchen.
"Is there a problem, sir?" Mark asked. "We served Table 6, and the meal was..."
"Shut up!" Crazy Dog yelled at Mark. "Where was your brain when the order was sent?" He screamed and threw the order at Mark's chest. "They wanted salmon, but you prepared another redfish similar to salmon!" He hit Mark's chest.
Mark exchanged looks with me, and I lowered my head, knowing that I had made that mistake. With so much on my mind, I had picked a random redfish from the freezer, and Mark had prepared it without realizing the difference. "It was..." Mark tried to say something, but I cut him off because I knew he was planning to take the blame again, as he always did.
"It was me!" I announced, heaving a deep sigh. "I made the mistake, not Mark because..." I paused and looked at Mark again. "I..."
"I knew it!" Crazy Dog yelled at me. "If you weren't one of our good chefs, I would have gotten rid of you a long time ago because you always make mistakes. If you're thinking about your children, then you shouldn't have come today."
"I apologize, sir," I quickly said, trying not to further infuriate him.
"This is it, Alexandria. You're fired because the mistake you made today has cost us a huge contract. They believe that we're not good enough because your brain couldn't even comprehend the difference between an ordinary redfish and salmon!" he screamed at me.
"Sir!" I shouted his name and fell to my knees. There was no way I could be fired now that I needed the job. "Please, you can't fire me, please," I begged him. "I have a son who is in the hospital, and I..."
Crazy Dog laughed. "I don't care about your problems, Alexandria, because I have my problems. So get the hell out of my restaurant and never return."
"Sir," Mark shouted back at Crazy Dog and then helped me up from the ground. "It was just one mistake. You can't do that to Alexandria, and..."
Crazy Dog scoffed and threw his hands up. He moved closer to Mark and pushed him in the chest. "I won't be controlled by you when I own this restaurant. So don't tell me what to do, and if you think you can't do without your girlfriend, then get the hell out of my restaurant!" he said and slapped Mark's hand.
"Very well," Mark grabbed his hand and twisted his arm. "I've been wanting to do this for a long time," he laughed and pushed Crazy Dog backward. "Let's go, Alexa." He grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the kitchen.
Tears welled up in my eyes, but I held them back until we exited the restaurant. As we walked towards the bus stop, I abruptly stopped, causing Mark to halt as well. "I'm sorry, Mark," I said, my voice filled with sorrow as I sniffled. "All I've ever done is cause you pain, and now, I'm responsible for your job loss. This shouldn't be happening," I confessed, lowering my head in shame. "I've decided to save Cody and myself..."
"What are you saying?" Mark interrupted, grabbing my hand and gently rubbing it. "I'm not complaining, and Crazy Dog is someone I've wanted to get rid of for a long time. If this is about Cody, I could help you take a loan, and..."
"No!" I interrupted, yanking my hand away from his. "You've always talked about wanting to have your restaurant, so I don't want to be the obstacle in your dreams," I refused his offer. "I'm going to meet with him," I told Mark, and confusion filled his face. "The father of my children, the Alpha king of the Lycans and werewolves," I announced.
"You..." Mark paused, rubbing his forehead. "I thought you didn't want to have anything to do with that man, so why are you..."
"Because he deserves to know," I replied firmly. "If I don't save my baby, I won't be able to live, Mark. This is the only way," I explained, turning to walk away from him. "I will go to him now. Don't wait for me, and please, help tuck the children in."
"But wait..." he said, and I halted. "Do you think he would be willing to help? After all, he abandoned you five years ago!"
I turned back to face Mark, smiling at him. "I just have to try," I told him and continued walking. "Taxi!" I hailed a cab and entered, resting my head on the back seat.
I rubbed my hands together, praying and wishing with every passing second that my plea would be heard and that Raizel would listen to me. When we reached the hotel, I approached the receptionist and requested his room number.
"What business do you have with someone of such high rank?" the receptionist questioned me, her tone tinged with disgust. I scratched the back of my head, feeling caught off guard, and smiled at her. "If you have no business with him, then there's no reason for me to give you his room number, ma'am," she stated firmly.
I sighed heavily and sat down on one of the chairs in the lobby. I should have anticipated the questions they would ask if I were coming to meet him. "What do I do?" I whispered to myself, biting my fingers as I glanced at the receptionist, who continued to stare at me suspiciously. Quickly averting my eyes, I repeated the question to myself and decided to believe that he would walk out of the elevator.
Hours passed, and I couldn't wait any longer. It was already late, nearing 11 PM, and there was no sign of him. Feeling defeated, I decided to leave. Just as I was about to walk out of the hotel, I brushed past someone, catching a familiar Lycan scent, and we both locked eyes.
"Lady Alexandria!" he called out, causing me to stop abruptly and face him. It was then that I recognized him as the man who had accompanied Raizel. A bright smile spread across my face as I opened my mouth to speak. "I need your help to see the Alpha king!" I pleaded.
A few seconds later, we were heading towards Raizel's room after he informed him through their mind link. When we reached the front of his hotel room, I rubbed my hands together and silently prayed that he would assist me. "You may go in," Kylan pointed to the open door, and I nodded in response before stepping through.
As the door closed behind me, I turned and rubbed my chest, feeling my heart race fast. When I faced the room, I gasped at the sight of Raizel wearing only a towel, his half-naked body glistening with water, as if he had just stepped out of the bathroom.
"Alexa," he uttered my name, causing my legs to shake uncontrollably. I shut my eyes, trying to regain composure and control my body's reaction to his presence, but I couldn't.
"Don't act as if you haven't seen me naked before," he whispered into my ear, his breath sending shivers down my spine.
"Please, your highness, put on something more appropriate," I pleaded.
Raizel laughed. "I'm in my room, and I'm free to wear whatever I want. I might even go naked right now, and..."
I turned to face him, lowering my head before he could finish his sentence. Accidentally, my head collided with his chest. "Please don't," I begged.
"You won't even look into my eyes," he chuckled. "What on earth is a married woman doing in my room at this hour?" he asked, and when I didn't reply immediately, he laughed again. "Do you want to seduce me?" he teased.
I turned to him, my head still lowered and fell to my knees. "Please, help me!" I pleaded.
Raizel laughed like a villain, crouching down to my level. "Are you begging me to sleep with you or something?" he asked, but I shook my head vigorously. "Then what, Alexa? You've come all this way just to say this?" he yelled, pointing to the door. "Leave!"
I knew he wasn't inclined to help, but I had no choice but to reveal the bitter truth. "Your Highness, please help save our son!"
