Unexpected Affections

Well, I know that some relationship started with a huge sparkle, like it was love at first sight, but not the one am in right now. I literally disliked him, because of the way he always acted around me, I know that maybe he has his reasons but he was unbearable. I totally disliked him. Then here I am here dating him. He was a huge definition of flame without control, I was too and you know it wasn't going to work. So I thought!.

We started talking as mutual friends through his best friend and yet he wasn't so showing any sign of him finding me attractive. When ever he comes over to my house was just to get my calculator since we were both studying mathematics as a course in the university. Like he was annoying. I knew he was fighting something inside, like he hardly show anything about emotions because he was really stubborn.

It was then I got to know he was battling a serious depression and that lead him keeping love aside. The day I knew he had something for me was during my birthday, he didn't shower me with money and other stuff. he gave me a special gift. A fancy wristwatch. Everything about him changed immediately. He always supported me both academically and gave me good advice. like sometimes I say to myself, how did I love this man, like he was so unbearable. I totally judged the book from its cover

We do sometimes argue and it was always something I can't talk about because he was so different from when he was calm. he would say words that when he is calm he would later regret.

My man's mental health was not really that good, his previous relationship drained out his way of seeing things, like he was just a shadow of himself.

But we also had sweet memories, like a day I visited him at home, After we had eaten what I brought. we started a discussion

You’re not really that funny,” I said to him immediately, crossing my arms.

“Maybe I just need better material?” he grinned, his eyes sparkling with mischief.

“Or a new audience,” I replied, smirking back.

" Probably a new girl" he replied instantly.

He was getting on my nerves. But I was enjoying it.

My eyes changed from cold weather to flames.

"You asked for it sweetheart" he said, giving me that I have won look.

Yet, beneath the banter, I discovered something unexpected. He was kind, always the first to help others, his laughter infectious when he was being genuine.

When his friend told me about dating my man, I would be honest I was skeptical about it, like he was not someone I wanted to date. Am not saying he's not perfect, but c'mon he was so annoying. Never knew he would be the most sweetest person ever.

But as weeks passed, I found myself drawn to him, despite the annoyance. “ One rainy afternoon, while sharing an umbrella, he said, “You know, I was really hoping to annoy you into liking me or I really didn't like you because of your face "

I laughed, surprised by his honesty. “Well, it’s working,” I admitted, my heart fluttering.

Days turned into months; his quirks became endearing. “You’re my favorite annoyance,” I confessed one night, cuddled together on the couch.

“Sweetheart, you’re stuck with me,” he replied, his voice soft. I realized then that love can be found in the most unexpected places.

There were times he would sit me down and ask me questions in a way to advise him. He made our relationship a balanced one, whereby I could drop in my support.

One of the darkest moments in my relationship was a day we argued and the argument was so serious that he proposed to breakup with me. I felt so bad because yes, I said something hurtful to him and that's what prompted him making such decision. I felt the world crumbling on me, like this man was like a gift to me. I felt worn out, for the first time I thought I was actually brave, He later called me to order and we have been more of the best version of ourselves.

I have been into several relationships and this particular one was the one that brought out the best part of me out, like it was the longest I had ever been in. If you ask me if he loves me. He would say " Every drop is worth it "
