Chapter 5 RAFAEL’S POV “Man, you have been staring in a distance for such a long time since you arrived here,” My colleague Daniel Harris Smirked. “Leave the guy alone. Can’t you see that he is in love,” My other colleague Kevin Winston countered. “Wait, Raff, are you in love and you are not telling us this?” Daniel started insisting on what Kevin thought to be true. “Stop it guys, I am not in love,” I was sure that I was lying to myself and to them at the same time. I can’t really deny being in love for I have been feeling very different since I took Hailey home. “Then why are you staring all over the place with a smile etched permanently on your face,” Kevin asked packing his briefcase with some paperwork. Daniel and I were taking over the shift throughout the night thus he had to leave. “Man, please tell me that you are in love,” Daniel and I have been good friends ever since I was transferred to work on this station. We got along better than anyone else and some other officers envied our relationship. Daniel was recently married and her wife Celine is expectant. He always want the same for me. He tells me there is so much joy in love and marriage and that he can’t wait for me to experience the whole thing. “I don’t know,” I didn’t even know how to start. I have never been in love before. All my life I had been working diligently in the military and to protect the citizens. I had never met the right person for me. I guess that is all I have to say for myself. I love dating, don’t quote me wrong. The reason I am not dating is not because I am gay but it is because I have focused more on my career. “You can tell me about it,” He kept on reassuring me. Thank God he is understanding. Kevin would otherwise joke about it and I would end up hurt and feeling slightly embarrassed. “Wait, is this coming from your last assignment?” Daniel was quick to get things. “Yea,” I nodded. “Tell me, what happened,” He was more anxious than ever. “Man, I met a very beautiful girl with the perfect features you can ask for. She had a good bust and good curves. Her brown eyes were good to look into and her raven hair was something else. The girl is so beautiful,” I confessed with a smile lighting up my face. “I see man. Then tell me that you have her number,” Daniel muttered. “Well I don’t.” I countered. “Why man, why? As per the description, the girl is very beautiful and since you loved her, you would have simply ask her for her number so that you will take her for a real date as soon as possible,” Daniel clearly knew his way around girls. “It is twisted man,” I admitted. “Why?” Daniel arched his eyebrows up in confusion. “I met the girl when she was so broken. She had found the boyfriend cheating and in frustration, she broke all the windows. Man, I have never seen a girl so hurt before. She couldn’t even afford to hold back her tears.” I explained. “That is really f****d up. So what happened?” Daniel implored. “I found out later that the guy assaulted him therefore I asked him to drop the charges or else we would also file something against him,” I explained. “That was the right thing to do man,” Daniel added. “I was so angry with the gentleman, I could practically kill him for hurting that beautiful angel,” I confessed and he chuckled. I was in love. “Then what happened after that. Don’t tell me you didn’t take her home,” Daniel kept asking me so many questions. “I comforted her and took her to her place,” I scoffed. “Did you tell her that you had feelings for her?” Daniel was now sounding hysteric. “Of course not, the girl was so broken. I am sure all she was thinking about at that time is how she is really done with men,” I argued. “Telling her you do care could be helpful, trust me on this,” He uttered. “But…” I dawdled to stop. “I am not going to let this go Raff. We are driving to her place and you are going to tell her the whole truth,” I could feel the determination in Daniel’s voice. “But I am not ready,” I shrugged avoiding eye contact with him. “No, I am not going to make you stay here yet you love a girl whom you have not told her all about that,” He insisted. “Man, well this is embarrassing but I am shy. Unlike you I don’t know my way around girls,” I really had to make that confession. “Let us start with the core thing, leaving here,” Daniel started off. “Then?” I arched my eyebrows up in confusion. “I will tell you all about it when we are in the patrol car,” Daniel huffed. “I don’t know about that,” I still had my doubts. “Trust me in this. You are going to her a girlfriend Rafael,” His lips were arched upwards after he said this. I mouthed okay despite the relentless ramming of my heart against my own ribcage. I knew I wanted her and I was going to get her. I was going to treat her and pamper her and she will never have to cry again. I loved her and I would never hurt her. She deserves that. My Hailey deserves that. “Aren’t you going to get in the car,” I didn’t realize that I was staring in a distant once again. “Sorry,” I hushed before I sat at the co-driver’s seat. “We are going to get her,” Daniel said as he skillfully drove out of the parking lot. “How?” “Listen carefully…” He started off and I knew I needed those teaching thus my ears were fully open. I would do all it takes to have Hailey by my side.
