Chapter 5

*Nadia’s POV* I almost lost control of Ambar back there. In the few months that I have had her, I have never seen her so set on killing someone. “She was touching our mate.” Ambar growled, making me sigh. “I didn’t like it either, but we can’t just kill everyone that is close to him.” I told her. “It isn’t just anyone. It sounded like they were a couple.” She said, making me stop. “Well, I guess it is better that way. Nothing should hold us back from leaving. We can’t keep risking more people. This is our battle to fight.” I said before I continued walking towards the pack clinic that the warriors told me about. “But our mate—” She was saying before I stopped her. “There is no, our mate. We should just reject him and call it a day.” I told her, making her gasp. “Don’t you dare, Nadia Rae!” She yelled, making me scoff. We continued arguing with each other until I bumped into a blonde beauty. “Sorry.” I mumbled before walking around her. “Wait!” She said before grabbing my arm. I turned slowly to look at her. “You aren’t from our pack.” She stated the obvious. “No, shīt.” Ambar snickered. “Hush up.” I told her before pushing her to the back of my mind. “Who are you? How did you get in?” The blonde asked. Even though she was questioning me, I didn’t feel threatened by her. She was actually kind of nice. I looked at her hold on my arm and she released me quickly. “Your alpha let me in.” I replied, making her furrow her brows. “Caleb?” She whispered to herself with a confused expression. “Don’t tell me that you two are together too?” I asked, but immediately slapped my hand over my mouth. What the hell is wrong with me? We are nothing? I can’t ask about his private life. “No, nothing. Only mates, but what do I know?” Ambar asked sarcastically. “Be gone, woman!” I muttered at her. “Too? Caleb isn’t—“ She was saying before tilting her head. “Wait. Annabelle?” She asked with a giggle. That was definitely the bītch’s name but I would just pretend that I didn’t know what she was talking about. “Oh, I guess you met Annabelle from hell.” She laughed before someone called her. “Beta Hunt, your mate’s prescriptions.” A nurse said, handing her some papers. “Thank you, Lucy.” She replied sweetly. Wait a minute! A female beta? Is this real life? She looked up at me and laughed. “Yeah, I get that a lot. Caleb and I were best friends growing up. But don’t think he didn’t make me fight for the position.” She said, shaking her head. “That asšhole.” She laughed, making me release a low growl. Or should I say Ambar? “Goddess, I am sorry. I don’t know what has gotten into my wolf.” I whispered with wide eyes. She laughed before throwing her arm over my shoulder. “You two are mates aren’t you?” She asked. “I mean, that is the only explanation I can find for a rogue to be walking around freely in our pack. No offense.” “Non taken.” I shrugged. “And apparently we are mates.” “Oh, goddess, Caleb must be delighted to have finally found you.” She squealed before hugging me. “Ah, Luna. There you are.” The doctor that was treating my mother said. “I’m not your luna.” I told him before the beta shook her head. “Shut up. Yes you are. Now, continue Doctor Peterson.” She said. “Your mother is fine. Still quite weak, but she is no longer in danger. I do want to keep her in observation for the next two days.” He explained to me. “Oh, okay. What do I have to do?” I asked him. “Nothing. Once your mother is fully well, she will sign the papers for the prescriptions. She will need a lot of care and plenty of rest.” He stated. “So, when do you think we can be on our way?” I asked him. “What do you mean?” He asked. “I mean, this isn’t our pack, so how long so that we can leave?” I asked again. The doctor and the beta looked at each other for some time before I cleared my throat. “Hello?” I asked. “Oh, I can’t let you know that yet.” He smiled before walking away. “Let me mind link my mate so I can give you a tour.” The beta said with a smile. “That won’t be necessary, Beta.” I told her. “Call me Kimberly, silly.” She smiled before her eyes glazed over for a few seconds. “I’m all yours. Come on!” She said as she linked her arm with mine. *Caleb’s POV* I led Annabelle to my office. There was no way that I would have this talk in my bedroom. “Please have a seat.” I said as I released her arm when we walked into the office. She turned to push Aiden out of the room. “We don’t need an audience.” She muttered angrily. “Actually.” I stated, making her stop. “Out of respect for my mate. I can’t be in a room alone with another female.” I told her as her eyes grew wide. “Mate?” She asked before laughing. “What are you talking about, baby? We have an agreement.” She said as she reached for me, but I scooted away. “Don’t make me lose my patience with you. Have a seat.” I told her through clenched teeth. “We aren’t doing this right now.” She said, shaking her head. “You are mine, Caleb. We signed an agreement.” She said. “Listen, Annabelle.” I said, rubbing my face tiredly. “I’m really trying to be nice to you and not disrespect you.” “It was that rogue bītch, wasn’t it? You are letting go of an alpha’s daughter for a fūcking rogue?” She shouted. “Enough!” I growled, making her and Aiden bare their necks to me. “I will not allow you or anyone to disrespect her. AM I CLEAR?” I roared. She whimpered before nodding her head slowly. “I really want to work around this agreement I have with your father. I’m sure he would understand.” I told her as she shook her head. “He rejected his mate for power. He wouldn’t understand your need to be with a rogue over his daughter. That is an insult.” She said, making me glare. “I’m just stating a fact.” She shrugged. I leaned over my desk as I covered my face. ‘Think, Caleb. Think!’ I told myself. “We can think of something.” She whispered, now closer to me. Her hands slid up my arms before settling on my shoulders. She started massaging my tense muscles. Don’t ask me why I let her, but it felt too good to push her away right now. “We can all think of something.” She repeated. The door opened abruptly just as her pecan scent hit me. “And this is—” Kimberly was saying before freezing on her spot. I looked towards my mate in panic. But her face at that moment. Her face made me panic even more.
