*Nadia’s POV*
I have to admit that Kimberly was so nice that I almost felt at home.
“It could be our home if someone wasn’t a stubborn asš.” Ambar huffed.
“You can be so annoying sometimes.” I told her, rolling my eyes.
“I’m going to talk to the moon goddess and ask for a smarter human.” She scoffed, making me gasp.
“You wouldn’t!” I told her.
“Try me woman.” She said as she retreated to the back of my mind.
I also have to admit that I kind of miss that mate of mine, which is weird because I just met him. Stupid mate bond.
“I hope I’m not boring you to death. I don’t usually do the tours here.” She giggled as she reached for the door. “And this is—” She was saying as my mate’s scent engulfed us when she opened the door.
I looked up with a smile before my heart dropped at the sight. She was touching him. That Annabelle girl was touching my mate. Mine.
It stung a little to see her hands on him. Well, a lot actually, but I can’t dwell on the sadness because Ambar took over. And let me tell you. I did not recognize jealous Ambar. Like at all.
She ran towards the witch with a capital B, grabbing her neck in one go before slamming her against the ground.
“He is my mate! MINE!” She growled as she got ready to rip her heart out.
Before she could dig our hand inside Annabelle’s chest, our mate’s arms wrapped around our waist.
“Nadia, please don’t do it. I promise that it will never happen again.” He whispered in my ear, making me shiver.
I looked back and growled for him to release me. That was all me too. Ambar wouldn’t growl at her mate.
“Ambar, let her go.” I told her with a deep sigh.
“She was touching our mate.” She growled at me in anger.
“Yeah and he let her. Will you kill him too?” I asked her as she whimpered.
“No.” She mumbled before retreating to the back of my mind.
I released Annabelle, which made me feel better about myself. I guess I wasn’t as weak as I thought.
When I stood on my feet, I fixed my clothes before clearing my throat.
“I’m sorry. I was out of line.” I said, closing my eyes. I really wasn’t sorry, but this wasn’t my pack to do these little scenes.
“Nadia—“ My mate was saying before I shook my head.
“No, Alpha. It’s okay.” I said as I turned to Kimberly who was giving Caleb some heavy death glares. “Kim, can you please take me back to the clinic? I’d like to sleep with my mother. I only need a blanket, if I could borrow one.”
“Nadia, there isn’t an additional bed available at the moment.” She said quickly. “You can sleep in the room across from mine.” She told me as she reached for my hand.
“It’s okay. I can sleep on the floor. I’ve done it before.” I shrugged as she frowned at me.
“My mate will not sleep on the floor.” Caleb growled, making me turn to snap at him.
“Um. Hello. Can you help me up, Caleb?” Annabelle asked him, still lying on the ground.
“You have hands and feet.” Kimberly said with an eye roll. Clearly, they had some beef because Kimberly was nothing but nice to me.
“I don’t think my father would appreciate—” She was saying before Caleb growled at her.
“Don’t you fūcking dare think about threatening us.” He growled at her.
The warrior that was at the door approached her before extending his hand to help her. She scoffed, ignoring it before getting up on her own.
In case I didn’t make it clear, I don’t like the she-wolf. Like really, really don’t like her.
“Tell me about it.” Ambar said with an eye roll.
I turned back to Kimberly as she reached for my hand. “Come on. I’ll show you to your room.” She said as she pulled me away.
*Caleb’s POV*
I can’t believe that I was stupid enough to let Annabelle place her hands on me. My mate reacted just as I would have if the situation were reversed. Actually, no. I would have snapped her neck as soon as I had reached her.
Goddess, that would have been a mess. Her father would have brought me hell.
As soon as Kimberly and my mate exited the room, I turned to Aiden. “Please get Annabelle to her new room.” I told him.
“New room?” She asked, squinting her eyes.
“Yes. I no longer want you on my floor. This is temporary, of course. I will have to formally discuss with your father about amending or terminating the agreement. Once that is done, he can come get you.” I told her as she stomped her feet.
“Not going to happen!” She yelled, getting in my face.
“I didn’t ask you.” I said through clenched teeth. “Get her out of my face.” I told Aiden.
I took a deep breath as I approached my desk. Before I sat down, I decided to get myself some whiskey.
With my glass in hand, I finally sat down. I had to be smart about this. Even though my pack was powerful, Blue Moon was just as strong. That and they had connections with older packs. Packs who would stop at nothing to destroy those who oppose them.
Don’t get me wrong. I don’t doubt the capability of my pack, but it would be suicidal to have all those packs turn against us, especially, now that I was willing to protect my mate from the lycans at all cost.
I sipped on my drink as I tried to think about the best plan of action that we could take, but I was tired. Actually, aside from being tired, I wanted to see my mate. I needed to apologize and explain what happened.
I don’t want to lose her, not now or ever. I needed her. I wanted her. She was now my reason for living, for breathing.
“Let’s go to mate, Caleb. She needs us.” Beau told me with a whimper.
“I know Beau. I need her too.” I said as I stood on my feet and exited my office before following her delicious scent.
