Chapter 4

*Nadia’s POV* Everyone was following me to where I left my mother. My heart was pounding fast at the thought that maybe I wouldn’t find it and if I did, that I would be late. “Goddess, help us with this negative Nancy.” Ambar muttered as she took over my body. She stopped walking, closed her eyes, and focused on her sense of smell. It took her a few seconds, but she finally opened her eyes and ran towards the left-hand side. I felt everyone hot on our heels, trying to keep up. I finally spotted the fallen tree and took over again, running even faster. “Here!” I yelled before jumping on the tree and looking down. “Hey. Come back here.” My handsome mate said as he reached for me. “Let the warriors get her out.” “But.” I furrowed my brows before squealing when he grabbed me and threw me over his shoulder. “You are quite the runner.” He chuckled before placing me on the ground again. I watched the warriors lift my mother out from in between the trees so that the pack doctor could tend to her injuries. I sighed in relief when the doctor confirmed that we had made it on time. “Thank goddess.” I whispered, closing my eyes. I felt my mate sniff my hair, making me look back at him in question. “What? You smell amazing.” He said with a shrug. “Amazingly sweaty, sicko.” I told him, making him chuckle. Not sure why he found that funny. I really had been out in the woods, running, and without showering for about a day. So gross. “I have been called many things. Mainly Alpha or Caleb, but never sicko.” He laughed harder. “Alpha?” I asked with wide eyes. “You are an alpha?” I gulped. “Is that a bad thing?” He asked me. “Not really? It depends, I guess.” I replied, honestly. Most alphas that I had met were typically my father’s friends and were nice to us. But I had heard some awful stories about other alphas. “Depends on what?” He asked as he crossed his arms. “Are you an asšhole?” I asked him, blatantly. “Well.” He chuckled nervously as he scratched his head. “I mean.” “That’s a yes.” Ambar giggled. “I love him already.” “Sheesh woman! Let’s tone it down a notch, okay?” I told her. “Let’s not talk about me.” He finally said when he couldn’t figure out if he was an asšhole or not. “What’s your name?” I thought about lying but I was a terrible liar. I would typically laugh until they got the truth out of me. “Nadia.” I replied. “What a beautiful name.” He whispered in my ear as he wrapped his arms around me. “Wooo!” I squeaked, pushing him off. “Let’s not do the touchy thing. It makes my body feel weird.” I told him, making him chuckle. “It’s called turned on, Nadia.” He said as he pushed some loose hair behind my ear. “Let’s get your injury checked out too.” “No. I’m fine. Thank you, Alpha.” I said with a smile. “Really, Nadia.” He said as he squinted his eyes. I smiled before shrugging. “Fine. If I’m alpha, then you will be luna.” He said with a shrug. “I am not the luna. I don’t even have a pack.” I told him. Someone was daydreaming about us being together. He needed a wakeup call. “You do have a pack. It’s called the Golden Claw pack. And you are my luna.” He said, with a twinkle in his eye. “Um.” I said as my eyebrows drew together. “Don’t answer me, Nadia. Just try it out. Please.” He said with a pout. “At least until you and your mother are fully healed.” I turned to look at my mother, who was still unconscious. I sighed. I have a feeling that I will regret this. “Only for a few days.” I told him as I turned to face him. “Yes. Only a few days.” He said with a smile, making me instantly regret my decision. *Caleb’s POV* I felt like a love-sick teenager. My asš was really jumping off the walls about having her agree to stay for a few days. I only said a few days to convince her to come with me to my pack, but let’s be honest. There is no way in hell that I would let my mate leave my side. I couldn’t believe that she even thought it was possible. I mean when you find your mate, it is like you need the other to breathe or even to live. And I already felt like that. Just the thought of her leaving my side, has me sick to my stomach. I looked over at her as I watched her looking at the warriors that were carrying her mother. We had brought a litter stretcher to help with her mother’s transportation. She hadn’t taken her eyes off her for a second. “We won’t harm her.” I whispered, making her look up at me with a forced smile. “I would like to know more about you.” I told her. “There isn’t much to know.” She replied dryly. Am I the only one that felt the attraction of the mate bond? It kind of hurt to see her indifference. She suddenly sighed before looking at me. “What do you want to know?” She asked, making me smile at her. “I—” I was about to ask her my first question when I heard my worst nightmare call me. “Caleb, baby!” Fūcking crazy asš Annabelle shouted before running up to me and hugging me. I heard a light growl from beside me before she covered it with a cough. I looked over to Nadia with a smile as she looked away. “What do you want, Annabelle?” I asked tensely, pushing her away. She was a pain in my asš. “I was worried because you never came to our bedroom.” She said with a pout, making me scoff. “It’s not our bedroom.” I told her before turning to Nadia. “She doesn’t sleep there, I swear.” “Why are you explaining our life to—” She was saying as she turned to Nadia. “I’m sorry, and you are?” She asked Nadia. “I’m nobody.” She replied. “Thank you for your help, Alpha. I should be out of your hair in no time.” She smiled sadly, walking away. “What the fūck, Annabelle from hell.” I yelled as I grabbed her arm tightly. “What did you call me?” She asked with wide eyes. Fūck. That was an internal joke between my beta, gamma, and me. Oh, well. I guess the secret is out. “We need to talk.” I told her as I pulled her with me inside the pack house.
 Goddess, help me.
