It was a deadly silence that came after barely a few minutes passed when the warriors had returned. Kaia sat beside the doctor trying to help with the injured but her eyes kept glancing back to the trees wondering about her mate. He was just within the tree line, her heart was lurching from her chest for Valen “Luna please like this” the doctor insisted trying to secure a torn apart hand in place bringing her focus back to the task at hand. The poor young man, his hand would no doubt be unable to be repaired the way the skin was ripped again but nonetheless, they attempted to bandage it. They didn’t have to keep looking over their shoulder anymore the threat seemed to of lessened and she truly worried how much this happened when her mate wasn’t around. No sooner thought of the man he came storming through the woods. Nudity wasn’t much for them but the sight of her n***d mate, tall, proud glistening in sweat Kaia could almost blush however a fire could have started from the blaze in his eyes noticing Kaia amongst the warriors on the field. “What is the future Luna doing here?!” he snarled those eyes practically glowing golden. Jaxon wasn’t far behind him and an obvious look of worry crossed his face when he saw Kaia. Valen looked to his warriors for answers while Jaxon ran over. “Where is she? Where is Gatlin?” his worry was sweet and always a giveaway when he was being serious calling Gatlin by her first name instead of her last name. “She’s in the infirmary...” the fear crossing his face as the words left her mouth was hard to miss “she isn’t hurt, she is helping the wounded there” Jaxon was quick to nod in understanding before running off. Kaia was a little envious of his care for his mate but she pushed it aside as she got to her feet “should we start getting ready to help move them?” Kaia questioned the doctor he opened his mouth to answer however words seemed to be stuck as he froze at the sight of Valen. The large Lycan approached in a rush. “Commander...” Bas called but the shot a harsh glare which forced Bas to clamp his mouth shut. “What are you doing out here? You are the future Luna of this pack you should be inside the kingdom so you are safe” he chastised her. Valen glanced around noticing the gaze of everyone settling on them but he attempted to shake it off and remain unaffected. “I am the future Luna of this pack and have the right to fight with them if I feel it’s my duty” she defended. Valen cursed up his breath somehow they swivelled backwards, back to where they started “help the doctor take the wounded to the infirmary, I want a patrol of the area now and a clean up of this mess. Everyone is dismissed!” his loud booming voice had everyone quick to action following his orders but his eyes were still focused on Kaia who didn’t buckle once under his fierce demeanour “you come with me” he ordered. Kaia scoffed at his words “I do not take orders from you, Commander.” Valen sighed his forefinger and thumb rubbing at the bridge of his nose “Kaia, please” reluctantly she nodded in agreement. However once let led her away she became very aware that between the two the only clothes separate from them was the coat the doctor had given her. So Kaia opted to walk behind him which in itself was a terrible mistake finding herself ogling his muscular shoulders, strong back and well-shaped a*s, no matter how she tried she couldn’t drag her eyes away. Kaia didn’t even notice that he had led her to his tent until he lifted the flap and ushered her inside “Now...” he sighed after pulling on the closest pair of pants “I don’t know how you did things at your last pack but you are the future Luna of this pack now Kaia and you don’t go rushing into battle like that” he began scolding her. Kaia couldn’t help but be dumbfounded at his immediate reaction to her. Kaia felt stupid she had been thinking about him, missing him while he was gone and all he wanted to do was carry on. “I am going to be Luna. You’ve made yourself clear you will be the commander here, fine” she snapped at him “so will have to follow my lead, not the other way around. If I want to be on the field and you don’t like it then tough. You will have to suck it up because you’ve made it clear you want no place with me so then you have no say in what I do” Kaia shot back. She could feel the irritation of the man before her. She didn’t know how someone could be so infuriating. “Kaia” he growled in frustration “follow your lead? And how would I be able to do that if you put yourself at risk and get yourself killed...” His large arms folded over his chest as his eyes focused on Kaia who remained by the door. She watched him as he continued to rant and rave as her heart sank deeper and deeper she didn’t have any expectations yet somehow was still disappointed. When he finally stopped speaking Kaia just shook her head. “Does it really bother you that I was out there just because I’m going to be Luna?” she wanted to clarify. “Yes!” he snapped out as he paced back and forth. When she heard he had returned Kaia couldn’t deny she was happy to see him but now she wished he didn’t come back. “I see...” Valen stopped midstep at her words clearly what he said settling into his mind. “Kaia...” “I want to be there for my people, fight alongside them, be there for them because that is a leaders place. How can you call yourself a leader if you aren’t willing to fight alongside them” he stood silently taking in her words “if you will excuse me I want to get cleaned up it’s been a long day” Kaia stormed to the door lifting the flap preparing the exit “and welcome back, mate. It was nice to have such a warm reunion with you” the venom of her words were practically spat in his direction before she stormed out not bothering to look back.
