"Did you manage to make any new friends on your first day?" She was always too worried about me. Knowing that she was the only relative I had for quite a while, she was trying to make it up to me.
"No, grandma. It was only my first day! I was happy that I didn't get lost in the whole school, it's so huge! But I had the class representative taking care of me that day, showing me around and making sure I was in the classes on time. They are taking care of me. There might be a few problems with some of the girls, as the only thing they care about is how they look and how much makeup they wear, but you know me! I'm not a troublemaker and I can stand up for myself. So don't worry too much, ok? I'll come again tomorrow, I have to stay late today again to finish the canvas I've been working on. I'm painting the waterfall parents took me to when I was a kid. If they will allow me, I'll take it here to show it to you! Maybe you can even hang it on the wall above your bed here, what do you think?" I tried to sound all excited. In fact, I didn't want to go to that school. At least not today. The first day was just too much for me. But I had to survive. I needed to finish my education.
"I'm happy to hear that, Sophie. Make sure you get along with others well, alright? Now go, you shouldn't be late!" She patted my back. Her old hand didn't have as much strength as it used to when I was younger. But getting old was something no one could stop or prevent.
"Make sure to eat your meals well and eat at least two kinds of fruit today! I'll be bringing you more next time again!" I hopped down from the bed and hugged my grandma.
"Take care of yourself, my dear," Grandma whispered next to my ear before I turned around to leave.
"I'll come back tomorrow!" I excitedly exclaimed, waved at my grandma, and shut the door behind myself. Then I started running as fast as I could to catch a bus to get home soon and to school on time. I couldn't afford to be late for the bus this time.

"I'll get your car ready in ten minutes. Please, make sure you have all the necessary things packed for today's classes." My morning routines were very similar. Simon waking me up, having a shower, the maids bringing my clothes. Then eating breakfast and reading the daily newspaper before having a while to enjoy warm tea in our spacious living room. Even though it was this huge, it was always empty. I was the only one, who actually used this room. There were two big beige couches opposite of each other and in between a mahogany coffee table. It was supposed to be the social room for inviting guests over tea. But everyone here was always so busy, that this room was quite useless.
I sipped a bit more of the tea and looked out of the French window, which started at the heels of the floor and stretched all the way to the high ceiling. The garden grounds were quite spacious with a couple of fountains and many grassy places. I think that the same person, who designed the gardens at the school, was tasked with taking care of our garden's design. They could have chosen someone else, seeing the same from here and school is making me sick.
I turned away from the window, put the cup back on the saucer, and enjoyed the quietness of the house. That was until Simon opened the double-winged white door with golden decorations: "The car is ready."
"Alright, alright. I'm going. Can't have even five minutes of peace in this house!" I complained. Getting up from the couch felt like too much trouble and work to do. It felt as if the sofa managed to suck all my energy in it, leaving me to be a nearly walking corpse.
The car door shut behind me and we left for the school. The drive wasn't too long, thirty minutes at most, as we lived in an estate not too far from the school grounds. The automated black forged gate opened and the car's wheels rolled out onto the road lined with trees. Living here had at least one positive thing to it, there was greenery everywhere with no people around.
"What is for today's morning tea menu?" I disinterestedly asked. It was always just some kind of tea with a sandwich for the student council members. Others had the choice of going to the cafeteria. I bet the scholarship girl doesn't have the money to even enjoy her morning tea dishes! Let alone the afternoon ones... Poor soul.
"Today's menu is Ceylon gold tea with Sri Lanka black tea chiffon cake, Sri Lankan breakfast buns with onion stuffing on the sweet side, or spinach pie and grilled cheddar cheese sandwich. The salad is the usual Nicoise with focaccia." Simon read me the whole menu, sitting next to the driver.
"Choose something for me, I have no idea what to eat this early in the day. Just make sure there is a piece of everything at the student council room, Simon." I kept staring out of the window. I bet he took a glance at me in the rear-view mirror. It would be another boring day, but I knew that dealing with that creature would give me enough thrills, so going to that institution wasn't as much of a pain as it usually used to be.
We entered the main gate of the school grounds. I decided to check the road ahead of us just to make sure the scholarship creature was somewhere else. But there she was, walking on the pebbles.
"Speed up, I want to see that skirt flying." I moved to the middle seat. This was going to be a good show. The driver had no other choice but to listen to me. We drove past the scholarship creature and her skirt got lifted up. Goal!
"Heeeeeey!" I could hear her screaming behind the car, but we were faster than her. She couldn't keep up with the car's speed with her running.
"Good job. Serves her right!" I was smirking from one ear to the other. Finally something that made my day better right at the start of it! Simon opened the door of the car for me to get out. I grabbed my bag and got out in front of the stairs. I turned around to see how far she was, still having to walk more. Surprisingly, she was closer to the entrance than I had expected!
"You! How dare you! Don't you have a single piece of good manners in you?!" She was shouting at me from below, while I was about to overcome the last step. I turned around again to face her. She looked like a tiny insect and I was the king at this school. She couldn't do anything to me, whereas it was so easy for me to squeeze her into a tiny mash.
"What are you talking about?" I asked her, putting on the coolest poker face I could. She looked even more annoyed than before. This is such a good show! Get angry even more! Come on! Let me see your red face! I wish I could laugh, but I was trying to show her my lack of interest in anything she had to say.
"So driving past me is nothing?! In that speed?! Did you see the speed limit sign for this area?!" She kept shouting at me, not moving from her position.
"Oh, so I am supposed to know the speed limit sign, even though I wasn't the one driving?" I took a step up, not caring about what she had to say at all. Even though I was so amused inside. My mouth corners were twitching from how much I wanted to laugh directly in her face.
"Yes! Since it was your driver after all! Or at least apologize! And I won't bring it up to the headmaster!" Now she was trying to negotiate with me. She also seemingly calmed down.
"So you think you can bring something like this to the headmaster? And who is going to back your saying? I didn't let my driver drive faster than the speed limit here. He knows the road signs and this road very well. Way better than you, creature!" Whoops. I said her name out loud. Now she will tell me what her name is and that she isn't a creature. Pathetic.
"And how do you want to solve this issue, goblin?!" Goblin? Did she just call me goblin? Did that tiny thing with messed up hair and nearly no makeup on her ugly face call me that? She has to be kidding!
"Excuse me? Look here, you creature. I didn't drive fast and that's it. Do what you want about it, but there is nothing to support your claim. End of discussion. And now you better go to your class, you don't want to be late for it." I smirked and entered the door. She kept shouting and yelling at me, making everyone else interested in what was going on. I had had enough fun for now. And I didn't want to receive more attention than I was already getting every single day.
"What a lowlife. She can't even behave! Arguing about something so petty!" I overheard some of the girls talking around me as I was heading for the student council room. I unconsciously smiled. They were so right! She needed to learn to behave herself.
"She should learn how to express her dissatisfaction in front of the student council president! Yelling like that in the morning... So uncivilized!"
Hearing them badmouthing her sounded so good to my ears. Everything she was doing was only proving how much she didn't fit in here. I should show the headmaster that he had chosen a complete disaster to attend this school. The sooner the better...
I opened the doors to the student council room. Morning tea was already waiting there for me as Nathan was enjoying his sweet-tooth foods with a different book from yesterday.

"He's lucky there wasn't a puddle! If he got my clothes wet again!" I sneezed. The clothes still weren't dry enough from yesterday's rain. Oh no, hope I'm not getting sick! The school only began and I would be down with a cold? Damn me! Did it have to rain yesterday?!
"Hey, Reed, hope you're not getting sick. We don't need to catch your viruses." The class president appeared behind me in the hallway.
"Well, at least everyone will try what it is to get the low-class cold," I mumbled, searching for a tissue in my bag, trying to keep the content of my nose inside. But he was faster than me, he handed me a soft handkerchief instead of a tissue.
"Use this."
"Thank you. I'll return it to you tomorrow!" I quickly hid my nose in the checkered handkerchief he handed me to hide the liquids going down.
"No problem. Keep it! I have many of them at home. Anyways, are you ready for the first class today? We have to present our assignments the first thing to that annoying art teacher. Did you bring yours?" He was walking to the classroom next to me, apparently thirsty for conversation.
"I left it in the class yesterday. I worked on it the whole afternoon. In fact, I missed my bus because of it and the French teacher. If it hadn't been for her, I wouldn't have to walk back in the rain!" I sneezed again.
"Goodness! Don't you have any dry clothes at home?!" He touched my jacket, which was still a bit wet.
"I'm afraid not." I blew my nose again.
"This won't do. We have to get you dry clothes!" He gripped my arm and started dragging me to a completely different hallway even though we managed to get quite close to the art classroom.
"Wait! The class!"
"It will wait! You need proper clothes first!"
