Sophia
I was following after the class president. He didn't seem like a bad person, at least looking at him from behind. He wasn't really muscular, but his body wasn't too slender, either. He looked like the kind of guy, who can surprise you at any time with how strong he is, even though you would have never guessed it. His light brown hair matched his hazel eyes. He wasn't walking fast at all, it seemed like he tailored his walking speed to mine, as the distance between his back and me wasn't getting smaller nor bigger. I would like him to pose for my painting one day. His profile would look gorgeous with the setting sun during the golden hour in our art classroom.
Imagining him in so many different angles, his hair turning gold and his illuminated face...
"Ow!" I bumped into something. I took a step back and looked up. I bumped into the class president! Am I seriously this clumsy for real?! Two accidents in one day!
"I'm sorry, I... was so lost in admiring the hallways that I..."
"It's fine. Just make sure you are careful about your steps. There are quite a few stairs on the way sometimes as well. And try to pay a bit more attention during the upcoming class as well. There will be many handsome guys, too." He smiled at me. He knows?! How can he know what I was thinking? Oh dear lord... Is he a psychic? Can he read minds? My face was getting hotter as I realized my intentions were discovered. I lowered my head, staring at the tips of my toes.
"Let's go, miss daydreaming?" Even though he was probably mocking me, the sweet tone of his voice sounded very kind. He then ruffled my hair, which made me look up at him once again. He was already walking to the classroom for the French lesson. Wait for meeeeee! My voice was shouting at him in my head, but instead, I only ran after him without saying anything. I didn't want to be left there alone. But my route was blocked by a crowd of squealing girls. I had to stop before bumping into someone else's back again.
"Ben! It's Ben! He looks so gorgeous today!" One of the girls was shouting, trying to be heard in the awfully loud coalition of brain-washed fangirls of this Ben.
"He is so handsome!"
"He is still single!"
"Ben, marry me! I'm free!"
"Ben!"
I had to press the hands on my ears. I didn't want to become completely deaf, being stuck in this crowd, getting pushed from all sides. As one nightmare hopefully finally ended, another was only about to begin.
"Excuse me! I need to get to my class! Sorry!" I was trying to shout at them while pushing through, but it was nearly impossible. It felt like all the tiny slender girls' bodies were stronger than gorillas.
"I need to get through! Sorry!" I was trying to shout louder but to no avail. The crowd was living a life of its own, not caring about a nobody like me. Benjamin was the main star of this moment! Am I going to die here? My name will be all over the school papers and local news: Died, getting deaf, and suffocated in a loud crowd of teenage girls. What a great cause of death for a seventeen-year-old girl! Damn it!
I breathed in as strongly as I could and shouted louder than anyone: "Hey, you herd of brainless monkeys! I want to get to my freakin class!" It became quiet. The girls were trying to locate my voice.
"Excuse! ME!" I forced my way through all of them and finally got to the classroom door.
"What a ditch. Can't behave."
"She is the newbie!"
"The scholarship girl!"
"She doesn't belong here! What a way to behave!"
"She better learn the etiquette of this place! She'll only bring us all down to her level!"
"A complete zero..."
I heard so many mean remarks. I sighed. Well, what did I expect? That everyone will welcome me with their arms wide open? Wake from it, Sophia! You are the black sheep in here. You'll be lucky if you make any friends at all! I slapped both of my cheeks gently as the crowd behind me dispersed.
"Oh, so you're the new scholarship girl?" I heard the very familiar voice behind me. Where did I hear it before? It wasn't the class president. His voice sounded more like honey... Who was this? I don't think I met this person on the bus nor anywhere... Who... I was forcefully turned around.
"What-!" I didn't even finish my sentence. I saw his face clearly. It's him! Just how lucky can I get in one day! It's the entrance ceremony guy! I fell on him and he tripped me! I hope he doesn't know, who I am! If he remembers me... My life here will be over. Please, please, please, please... You won't remember me! You don't know, who I am! Magic or whatever, work!
"I see. Well, I didn't expect anything more from someone..." His look scanned my whole body: "... of your social standing. You better be quiet and not make us drop to your level. We aren't the same birds of a feather, after all. You should mind your place." His nose was up high and his body was casting a shadow over me. I felt myself shrinking. Did he know? Did he realize, who I was? Don't let yourself be scared, Sophia! You can't cry over spilled milk anymore! You have value on your own and you can disregard what had happened! Accidents happen! And social standing or whatnot, you are here because you worked hard to be admitted! You worked harder than anyone else at this school!
"Then you should make way for someone of my social standing, so I don't taint you all with my ways of making space for myself. As you can see, we all breathe the same air and share the same space. I would not like to contaminate yours with my... lowly... breaths." I stood up on my toes and said that straight in his face. This should teach him!
"Oh? You think you can breathe the same air as us?" He asked me, being visibly annoyed with what I said.
"No, in fact... I think you cannot breathe the same air as me." I smirked, wanting to spit in his face. I turned around and entered the classroom to take my seat. It was getting quite late and I didn't need another teacher taking it out on me just for being a tiny tad late.
Benjamin
What a duck! I hope she realizes that this is not a place for her to stay! The sooner the better!
"Hey, Ben, she blew you off!" Rex's hand ended up around my shoulders while he was visibly mocking me. His red-brown hair, which he had dyed only recently, hit my face. Freaking punk!
"Your plan of getting her out of this school on her first day isn't going as expected, is it?" Nathan, the calmest guy in my group, decided to speak his mind. He didn't put any emotions in the way he spoke. Ever. He was always the calm guy and we could never figure out what exactly was going on in the unpenetrable mind of his. His nose was always stuck in a book, he never showed signs of tiredness, he was never overjoyed. The only emotion we managed to get out of him was anger when he got overly annoyed for being disturbed from reading. Just how did he manage to live his life for nineteen years like this so far? Being the only child, who was born to his parents at a late age after many years of trying... He sure had it easy.
"Well, it's just a start. We have a long way to go," I muttered, leaving the two of them behind me as I entered the same classroom as that girl. The annoying creature was sitting at the window, staring out of it, while the rest of the students were happily chatting. Serves you right! No friends even on the first day! I bet you'll be out of this school before tomorrow!
"Benjamin, I am happy you have decided to attend this class, but it will be very kind of you to find your seat and not stand in the middle here. S'il vous plait!" The French teacher was having her day again. I bet she's having the bloody week!
"Will you hurry up? Or you want to give us a speech in French?" She repeated her annoying self.
"Oui, madame! I am going to sit down right this instant!" I answered her and sat down on the closest seat possible.
"Bien, nous avons..." The teacher started her usual speech about what we did last class and what she wanted to do now.
"I didn't know you were so keen on sitting next to a low-social class like me? I thought that breathing the same air was making you nauseous!" I heard someone whispering to me. I turned to my left and there she was! The annoying scholarship girl! How did I manage to sit down here?! Was I so blind to not see her seat exactly?! What the heck?! I turned around to see Rex making awful grimaces, which were aimed at me, and Nathan not giving a damn about what was even going on.
"Hey, Ben, don't worry about it, it's only one class. You can pull through!" I turned around with my killing stare to see Charles hitting the pen on its tip on the desk in front of him with his bored poker face on. He was the only one, who supported me. He was also the most normal person at this school. My best friend.
"Thanks, mate," I muttered and turned back to make sure the French witch wouldn't try to make me a standing example again.
"You better not show yourself in front of me again!" I hissed at the girl while staring into the French textbook.
"Or what? The air you breathe will make me suffocate?" She hissed back at me. This daring lowlife! I hope she disappears right this instant!
