Nick’s gaze slid casually around the promenade deck as he followed Todd, who was making his way through the people converging near the bar. There were fewer couples than had been at dinner or the launch. Their waiter from earlier caught his attention. He was wearing regular clothes and seemed to be alone. Giving Todd a gentle nudge to the back of his arm, Nick nodded at the man. “I see him,” Todd said softly. “And hello, do you see who he’s talking to?” “Sure do.” Nick paused. An idea formed in his mind. “Maybe he’s just posing as a slave? Whatever it is, he’s off.” “Slave or not, he’s cavorting with Benning and his cronies. So that makes six—three pyrahni, Benning and the other man carrying around demons, and now the waiter. He’s sure not hiding who he’s associating with.” Todd stopped
