Chapter 16 The Mermaid

761 Words
Cadleigh Fort was a place where the dignitaries in East Plergant usually gathered for fun. Those who could get a ticket to be here were either rich or influential. Just like now, there was a group of young men fishing by the river. "What the hell, Ray! All the fish are coming for you. None of us catch a fish at all." Felix Hoeber glanced at the bucket beside Ray's feet and complained. Ray didn't respond. He was in casual clothes today. The early spring sunshine fell on him, casting a halo on his good-looking face. If there were women around them, they would scream for his charm. Felix continued, "You are not allowed to show up at my place again, Dreamboat." His sister was only fifteen years old, yet she was already fascinated by Ray. Just as Felix looked away, he saw something and shouted, "Holy crap! I didn't know there were mermaids in this river!" Isaac Beck was startled and scolded him, "Can you keep your voice down! You scare my fish away." "Forget about the fish! Look at there! Is that a mermaid?" Seeing that he didn't look like joking, everyone turned to look at the river. It turned out that there was a woman swimming not far away. "Is that an extra project for entertainment? Someone paid her to play a mermaid here, right?" "Then why doesn't she wear a mermaid costume?" During the discussion, the woman in the water suddenly broke through to the surface. Her delicate face was wet with water droplets, shining dazzling in the sunlight. "Damn me! What a beauty!" "She is so beautiful! I have never seen anyone who is as beautiful as she is in this city!" "Don't you feel that she looks familiar?" "Come on, Felix. You said the same thing to every beautiful woman you have met." Lynnsey had just poked her head out of the water when she heard people talking. But there was still a distance from her to the shore, and she couldn't hear clearly what they were talking about. She had swam three or four hundred meters away and was exhausted, and she had to go ashore as soon as possible. She managed to find a big rock at the bank and climbed up. Her hair was dripping with waterdrops and draped over her shoulders. Her fair skin seemed to be transparent under the sun, and along with her big watery eyes and rosy lips, she looked amazingly good-looking. She was soaked wet by the river water. The clothes were tightly attached to her body and framed her curvy body shape. All the men on the shore were all dumbfounded. "Holy s**t! She is so good." "Jeez, I'm going to have a nosebleed." "I know her," Felix said firmly, her eyes widening. "I've definitely seen her before!" But no one took his words seriously and they started to boo. Listening to them talking about that woman's body figure, Ray was a little irritated. Without hesitation, he dropped the fishing rod and walked down to the shore. Then, he took off his black coat and put it on Lynnsey. "f**k! Ray, you are cheating! I saw her first!" Felix shouted at Ray and waved his hands. "I thought he didn't like women. Why happened to him today?" "Who told you he didn't like women? Don't you know he has two sons?" Everyone immediately realized that Ray did have kids. But he hid his sons so well that even they rarely saw those two kids. So, they always forget the fact that Ray was already a father. Lynnsey was trying to figure out which direction to go when a man suddenly appeared in front of her and put a coat on her. She recognized Ray immediately. They met on the main road yesterday. Thinking of his self-righteous attitude yesterday, Lynnsey didn't give him a smile back. She frowned and said stiffly, "Thanks, but no thanks." She tried to take off the coat and give it back, but Ray said, "You don't want to show up in front of a few strange men like this." Lynnsey wanted to say that she was not n***d, but her clothes were soaked wet. She had no choice but to say, "How much is your coat?" Ray raised his eyebrows, "Why?" "I should pay you for that." Lynnsey took her purse out of her wet pocket and stuck a pile of wet bills in Ray's hand. "Please take it, Mr. Morgado." After that, she turned around and walked away without looking back.
