Drake’s POV-
After everyone had finished eating, the tables were cleared, with my people trying to help clear the plates, but the Lycan kitchen staff seemed adamant about doing it themselves. Robert leaned over to me, while we were waiting for the plates to be cleared, and asked, “So, did you want me to come with you on Monday to help with this council meeting?”
I shook my head, and smiled, “Thank you for the offer, Robert. But I do need to do it myself. If I need to run anything by you, I will come and speak with you. I suspect I will have a few requests from my people, in regards to things my people would like.”
“What requests do you think you will get,” he inquired.
“I believe they will ask for more hobby-based items, or at least where we could go to get them. I will let you know,” I replied.
“I just wanted to say, the day I met you, I remember all too well. You were here for my wedding to Violet. It was the same day that I found out she was pregnant with Elisa and Elijah. Even then, I could see what kind of a man you would become. I can see you were born to be a great leader. You will do great things,” Robert praised.
“Thank you Robert. I can only make promises to be the best king and, well you know, mate, I can. The one thing I have always known is that I should never break promises, so I intend to keep them,” I smiled, whispering the word “mate”, so no one would hear but Robert.
The tables were now clear, so everyone rose from their seats and headed into the banquet hall. It is usually where smaller, more family, or political meals are held, but tonight it was a bar and dance floor. I was excited about this part and I do have to say I did love to dance with Elisa. I mean, why wouldn’t I? She is my mate.
The banquet hall had been decorated with welcoming banners for us, dragons. I greeted many of my people, as we went to the hall. Many were very happy with having such a safe place to live and food in their bellies. A lot of them were asking what they could do to help repay the Lycan people for all their generosity. One even suggested growing our own vegetables and fruits. It was a good idea. We basically wouldn’t rely too much on the Lycans, and they would have a supply of fresh produce.
Music started to play, and Elisa immediately grabbed my hand, dragging me to the dancefloor. I couldn’t help but smile. She was attempting to drag me to the centre of the dancefloor, but I couldn’t wait that long. I needed to hold her in my arms. I stopped dead in my tracks, pulled on her arm, causing her to spin around, and crash into my chest. Her smile, mixed with the look of surprise, made me smirk at her. She didn’t miss a beat though, quickly shifting to place her hand on my shoulder, allowing me to place my hand on the small of her back. As the music continued, I glided her around the dancefloor. I could feel many of my people watching our interaction, especially the council members and the young girls, no doubt jealous. But even with people watching, I didn’t care, I was too focused on the beautiful girl in front of me, with her arm wrapped around my shoulder and her other hand in mine.
“You know everyone is staring,” she smiled at me, a blush creeping across her cheeks.
“At us, I have noticed, but I really don’t care. I am dancing with the most beautiful person here. Does it bother you,” I asked, concerned that it may bother her.
She shook her head, “It does not bother me, because I know.”
“You know what,” I inquired, but somehow I knew she meant about us being mates.
She rose up on her toes, and leaned in towards my ear, whispering loud enough for me to hear, “I know you know that I am your mate. I know I can’t feel it yet, but I have figured it out. I wanted you to know.”
I immediately let go of her hand, and wrapped my arms around her waist, picking her up and spinning a round on the spot, causing her to giggle. I kissed her cheek, as I lowered her to the ground, and whispered in her ear, “I am so happy that you know, but I still can’t legally claim you until you are eighteen. But there is nothing that says we can’t date, spend time together, and cuddle and kiss.”
“Good, because I want to spend as much time as I can with you, and learn about your people,” Elisa smiled.
“Well, how about we go mingle with each other’s people,” I suggested.
“Maybe we should get a drink first. I am getting thirsty,” she smiled.
I nodded, “Excellent suggestion, beautiful. Come on, we will go get you one. I could use one too.”
I took her by the hand, and we walked side by side to the bar to get a drink. We got a glass of Pepsi Max each. While we were at the bar, Magnus approached us with a smile on his face.
“King Drake, and you must be Princess Elisa, it is a pleasure to meet you,” Magnus smiled at her.
“This is Magnus, Kenneth’s father,” I added.
“The family resemblance is unmistakable, it is a pleasure to meet you, Magnus,” Elisa graciously held her hand out.
Magnus took her hand in his, and shook it, before saying, “My son was certainly correct about your beauty. I can see why you have captured the attention of King Drake.”
“Thank you, and if I am right, you are also one of the council members. Certainly a great honour for Drake to choose you. I heard you built a load of traps for the vampires. Is that true,” she asked.
It was incredible to witness this. Her usual relaxed, no-nonsense yet loving tone she had with me, changed to a well-mannered, respectable tone. It was the tone I could only describe as the tone of a Queen. She really was born to be a Queen, and my Queen at that. I was in awe of her. She was perfect already.
“I did indeed, but King Drake and General Kenneth both helped me a lot,” Magnus modestly said.
“But you will be in charge of building the future of our people,” I smiled.
“Yes, so don’t be so modest. To be given such a role, must mean you have proven yourself greatly in the construction of fine work,” Elisa added.
“For someone so young, you seem very wise,” Magnus remarked.
“Thank you,” Elisa said.
“Now, I do have to know, were you the small white Lycan that killed the vampire that attacked King Drake,” he inquired.
Elisa nodded, “Yes, I have had my Lycan for the last year.”
“White Lycans are breath-taking to see,” he smiled.
I watched as Elisa noticed someone and called out his name, “Mr Hemming.”
He approached us. I could tell he was a Lycan, he was in an incredibly smart suit, with a spectacularly embroidered tie. He bowed as he approached us, “Princess Elisa, King Drake, can I help you with anything?”
“I wanted to introduce you to King Drake. I don’t think he has formally met you yet. Drake, this is Mr Josh Hemming. He is the Lycan royal architect. He is in charge of all the construction work done on our land. Mr Hemming, this is Magnus, General Kenneth’s father, and member of the dragon council of elders. He is the construction expect for their people. I am sure he could be of great help to you,” Elisa smiled, graciously gesturing to each individual as she mentioned our names.
Mr Hemming held out his hand to me first, to which I shook his hand, then proceeded to hold his hand out to Magnus, as I said, “It is a pleasure to meet you.”
“Yes, it is a pleasure. I have been looking to find the Lycan royal architect. I wanted to offer my help and assistance with the construction work,” Magnus added.
It was at that moment that Doctor Ambrose and Marcelo approached us, bowing, clearly eager to talk to Elisa. Their eyes had been fixed on her for sometime. I noticed that. I smiled at her, “Elisa, this is Doctor Ambrose, my people’s doctor, and Marcelo, he is our historian.”
“And, members of the council, it is a pleasure to meet you both in person,” Elisa smiled, holding her hand out to shake one and then the other.
“Pleasure is ours, Princess,” Doctor Ambrose bowed his head.
“Well, Drake, why don’t you speak with Mr Hemming and Magnus about any possible construction work idea and schedules so that way you can make your people aware of the noise, I can speak with Doctor Ambrose and Marcelo,” Elisa suggested.
“That is a wonderful idea, I did have to speak with Mr Hemming anyway. Take care of her, Doctor Ambrose and Marcelo,” I smiled, before stepping off to the side.
Mr Hemming and Magnus both followed me off to the side. I was still in ear shot of Elisa, and I couldn’t be more proud of her. She was really skilled at creating a commanding presence, but also creating a warm and welcoming vibe. She would have a lot of challenges being my Queen, her first being that she is a Lycan not a dragon. I really didn’t care though, she was my fated mate for a reason, and I can see everyday that she is going to be an amazing Queen. Her grace, control, bravery, and beauty, make her the perfect Queen.
“So, Mr Hemming, do you think you could come to Magnus’ home on Monday, with any blue prints you have and possible schedules? I have a council meeting then, in Magnus’ basement, and I would like them to see the plans as well,” I asked.
“Of course, your majesty. I take it the meeting is in the evening, as I understand you are returning to school. Am I correct,” Mr Hemming replied.
I nodded, “Yes, I am. I am still only fourteen, and over the past few years, I have done nothing but train to be king, fighting alongside my people, being on guard, and trying to train while doing my school work. So, I want to try to keep myself as busy as possible, plus it will give me some normality back in my life.”
“Well, having a hard-working attitude is a good thing, your majesty. I will do everything I can to make sure your people have homes. I also have some designs that I want to show you for your palace, and if you approve them, construction will begin immediately,” he informed me.
“I will go over them on Monday, but if you will excuse me, I love this song, and think it is time I had another dance with Elisa,” I smiled.
I moved off and escorted Elisa up for another dance. I even danced with Queen Violet. After the feast and mingling ended, I waved everyone off with Elisa by my side. Afterwards, I escorted Elisa to her bedroom, before retiring to my own room. This evening I saw a whole other side of her tonight. I saw the Queen she could be. But, I also know the rumours will be spreading around my people, with them all asking the question of is she my mate. I knew it was coming, now I just had to wait. Tomorrow, though, was a day I could relax with Elisa by my side, hopefully in private. Then school on Monday, followed by my meeting with the council. I will have to do well for the first meeting, and I will need to start my King journals too. They have to be written by the King, to detail all the things that our people go through and the decisions I make to resolve the situations.
