Chapter 11: Madelyn

1637 Words
“Are you okay?” Robbie whispers to me, as we follow the dragon princess. “Yes. Of course.” I say with fake confidence, that I don’t feel. I don’t know what was happening to me. Then I thought of the second it started getting weird for me. “Did the Prince’s voice sound...off..to you?” I ask curiously. “No. He sounded normal. Why?” he asks me. Because he definitely did not sound normal to me. His voice sounds musical. Almost beautiful. “No reason,” I responded. What is wrong with me? “Here are your rooms. This wing of the palace has been set aside for all the ambassadors that will be staying with us. We still have more that will arrive within the next few days and weeks. However, you each will have your own rooms.” She opens the door to one of the rooms. “They are each equipped with its own bath and balcony. In the bathroom closet you will find plenty of towels but if you are need of anything please do not hesitate to ring the bell on the stand and one of the palace’s dokaal will be up shortly. If you wish we can assign you a personal lovac if you feel you would like a servant only dedicated to your needs.” Princess Victoria offers. “Thank you, Princess Victoria. That will not be necessary. Our kind is pretty self-sufficient.” I respond. “Please call me Victoria, Madelyn. We will be seeing a lot of each other.” She says to me with a smile. I smile and nod in response. “Sir Robert, this one will be yours.” She points to the opened door. “Thank you. Please call me Rob.” Robbie says to Victoria. She nods and smiles. Then she turns to look back and forth between Robbie and me and says, “Within the hour, we plan to have a short meeting with all the ambassadors, down in my father’s study. Just to rundown a schedule for future meetings to come and pressing concerns any of you may have. We would also like for all the ambassadors to come down this evening. We have important guests from the Draco clan coming for a special announcement that will be affecting our kingdom. My father wishes for you all to attend and be present at the announcement.” “Of course. We will see you downstairs within the hour.” Robbie says to her. “Wonderful. You will go back down the stairs to the first floor and then take a left. The study is the fourth door on the right of that hall.” Victoria directs us. “Thank you, Victoria. We will see you there. We really appreciate all the hospitality.” I said, genuinely. “Your welcome, Madelyn. And please excuse my brother, if he made you feel uncomfortable. He can be an ass, sometimes.” She said, sheepishly. “No. He was fine. I am just tired.” I say back. Even though, by fine, I do mean looks. What am I thinking? I shake my head to clear my thoughts as I open the door to my new bedroom. “None the less, I am sorry. See you later.” Victoria says then starts down the hall. “How about we get settled in then we can meet up and explore a little, maybe go over some strategies before we go down to the meeting,” Rob suggests. “Sure. That sounds good. I will see you in a little bit.” I respond. I walk in and close the door behind me. The suite is quite large. It is painted in calm tones, like pale greens and cream colors. It kind of feels like home, and I am sure that it was redesigned like this on purpose. The paint still smells fresh. There is a large king-size bed in the middle of the room. The covers have light green, light blue and pale yellow designs on them. There is a nightstand on either side of the bed and a large chest at the foot of the bed. To the left side of the room by a large window there is a couch and a large comfy chair, set up as a living room area. On the right side are two doors. I open one and it’s the entrance to a large walk-in closet/dressing room. It has one wall full of mirrors. I open the other door and I walk into a large washroom. It has a standing shower stall in the corner, a large jetted tub in the center of the room and on the other side a two-sink vanity and a toilet next to it. I love this. At my home, I have to share a bathroom with my two sisters. I walk out to the main room and let myself fall backward on the bed. Relishing in the softness of the mattress and the pillows. Yes. I do believe I will be just fine, sleeping here. I hear a loud knock at the door. I walk over to open the door. It’s Oscar with my bags. “Hello, Lady Madelyn. Where would you like me to set these down at?” Oscar asks as he brings in my luggage. “Please put them right there, on the bed, Oscar. Thank you.” I say to him. He smiles and gently Carries my luggage and places them on the bed. “Is there anything else you need?” He asks me. “No, thank you. Everything is just fine. Thank you for your kindness.” I say to him. “No need to thank me, just doing my job. Well, I will head out and if there is anything you need, wring the dokaal bell, if you need any of the staff to come up.” he restates what Victoria had already told me. “Thank you, Sir Oscar. Will you be in on the meeting downstairs, in a little while?” I ask him, as I follow him to the door. “No. I am not much on politics, so I try to stay out of the mix as much as possible. But I will be helping the staff on the grounds, setting up for tonight’s event, if you need me.” He says to me then waves as he walks off. I sigh and look at myself in the mirror. I kick off the heels that my sister made me wear. So uncomfortable, I hate heels. I took off the dress and hung it up with the rest of my clothes in the closet and drawers. I slipped on tight legging-pants and a light blue blouse that hung off the shoulders. I slipped on some more comfortable ankle boots, dangling blue earrings and a silver chain with the Fae royal crest on it. Seeing as how we will be meeting other species ambassadors, I figured I would need to represent our Fae people. After packing everything away and applying a little bit of makeup on, mostly just eye makeup because I am not really into wearing it much, I was all set to meet Robbie. I looked at the clock on the nightstand and moaned, I didn’t realize how much time I had taken and it was just about time to go to the meeting. I walked outside the room and knocked on Robbie’s door. He quickly opened it. “Well, there you are. I came out earlier and waited for a little bit but you didn’t come out, I figured you need more time to settle in. I was about to go and knock on your door, seeing as how the time for the meeting was getting closer. Are you ready to go?” he asks me. “Yes. I am sorry, I lost track of the time.” I said, embarrassed. “It’s ok. With digs like these, I almost did too.” He said with a laugh. “Impressive, aren’t they?” I said as we walked together down the stairs. “Very,” he said, “Not sure what all we are getting ourselves into and we didn’t get much time to strategize. So, I think that for this meeting we should just listen and observe. What do you think?” “I agree. I know my aunt wanted us to bring up the rogue problem, but I think it could wait till we get our feet wet and see what the other species have to say. And especially with this special event happening tonight, I don’t want to shake any waters.” I say to Robbie. He nods in agreement. We walk down the three flights of stairs and then turn to the left as Victoria told us and follow the crowd of couples in front of us. We walk into the room and see that dragons, vampires, dwarves, and elves are sitting around a large, round wooden table. We take our seats, where are nameplates are, between the vampires and the elves, across from the dragons. I look for the dragon prince, even though I am not sure why and notice that he is not sitting where his nameplate is. I guess he won’t be at this meeting. I can’t fight the disappointment I feel. How odd. I really need to get a grip and come to do the work that my aunt and people have entrusted in me. I take a deep breath and wait for the meeting to start.
