Liana:
I tightened my arms around myself, holding the blanket over my shoulders, covering my body as the wind grew colder and a lot more aggressive, and I couldn’t help but find myself admiring the swaying trees as their leaves flew around me, reflecting the beginning of fall. The cold air made goose bumps rise over my skin and it didn’t take me long to realize that the Alpha was serious about it being a cold night.
I debated whether or not to go inside, and if I did go inside, whether to go to the Alpha’s room or to just settle to being in my own room. I didn’t think that the man would be inviting me to go to his room, but judging by the way that he spoke, I could tell that he would be waiting.
I pinched the bridge of my nose as I tried to allow myself to get up, knowing not to make the Alpha wait. The last thing that I needed right now was another set of threats, and judging by the Luna still being awake, pacing around, snapping at a bunch of maids and omegas, I could tell that now was not the right time to be playing my luck.
I walked toward the stairs, making sure not to look at the woman as I tried to find out where the Alpha’s room was. I followed his scent and heartbeat, knowing that it would be a lot easier than asking one of the maids.
I knocked on the door and took a step back, keeping in mind that I could always go to my room if he chose not to open the door.
However, just as I took a step back to leave, wanting to be anywhere but here, I was surprised when the Alpha opened the door for me. He didn’t say a word for a few seconds, but when he took a step back, silently telling me to come in, I released a breath that I didn’t realize that I was holding.
“You can take the bed, I have work to take care of.” He said, taking me off guard as he walked toward his desk after closing the door. I frowned in confusion and froze, my legs no longer allowing me to move.
“I’m sorry, what?” I asked, shaking myself out of the momentary daze that I fell into. The man raised an eyebrow at me and shook his head in question, waiting for what I was going to say, but I had to admit, I was completely at a loss for words.
“You take the bed, what is hard for you to understand in that?” He asked, his tone somewhat annoyed by my question. The man couldn’t be seriously suggesting that I sleep on his bed.
“Where will you be sleeping?” I asked, and he rolled his eyes.
“I won’t.” He said, nodding at his desk. “As I said, I have work to take care of.”
“Alpha, you don’t need to…”
“I am going to spare you the fuss for the night.” He said, stopping me. “Luna Alessandra is not going to let your subject slide and I don’t want to deal with the headache of it. You are going to be sleeping on the bed tonight, I am going to finish what I have to do. Tomorrow, your room is going to be moved inside the in-suite. It is going to spare the two of us of having to explain to anyone that we are not sharing a bed.”
“The maids are going to know…”
“The whole world could know for all I care.” He said, stopping me. “They are going to be called rumors unless we confirm them. The maids who are in charge of the suite know not to open their mouths, and they know the consequences that they would deal with if they do.”
“Does everyone have to deal with consequences in this pack?” I asked, making the man raise an eyebrow. “Can’t a person live normally without feeling threatened? Or is it a thing within this place? I genuinely am curious.”
“For those who play by the rules, obviously not. But for those who choose to play with fire, I believe that you know that they would be burning.” He said, making my heart ache. “I believe that you can understand underlying meanings when they are sent to you. You don’t always need me to be direct with my words, no?”
I looked down at my feet for a second as I crossed my arms over my chest before taking a slow step toward him. The last thing that I wanted was to be living in a place where I was going t be threatened for everything that I was going to do.
“One thing that you are going to need to understand about me, Alpha Dominic.” I said, and he raised an eyebrow, clearly amused by my response. “I am not one to be threatened every other minute. You can have your rules, but I am no omega or weakling who would be falling for your games.”
“Indeed,” he said, walking toward me. His body towered over my own and I had to fight back flinching when he put his finger under my chin, raising my face for me to look him in the eye as he spoke. “You might not be of weakling blood, but our marriage is to ensure that your family is safe considering that your drunken Alpha can’t seem to keep it safe.”
He leaned toward my ear, his hot breath hitting it as he spoke his next words, making my chest ache as he reminded me of the number of facts that I couldn’t ignore. “I would recommend that you go to bed before you start throwing more gasoline on the fire. Because trust me, considering that you are a new bride, a new member, and you know that you clearly are unwanted here; the one person who is going to be affected is you. And trust me when I say, that is not the right way to get into a marriage like ours. That is, of course, if you want this marriage to last…”
