Dominic:
I walked toward the house only to frown when I saw Liana sitting by the front porch.
She just stared into space, and though I wouldn’t have bothered stopping, when she didn’t flinch nor react to me walking toward the house, I frowned.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, looking down at her.
She didn’t look at me, her eyes focusing on the floor as if it was the most interesting thing in the world. She was quiet, her heartbeat calm as she ran her hand over her arm, gently massaging it.
“I am watching a few ant walk inside their anthill.” She said, looking up at me. “It is interesting how organized they are. They just choose to follow one queen, they do their task as they are supposed to, and they just…”
“You can’t seriously be having a conversation about ants right now.” I said, and she sighed.
“I am debating my life choices. The reason why I married you, and what I would lose if I choose to just leave right now.” She said, taking me off guard. “The anthill conversation seemed to be less shocking, I believe?”
“I have more important this to take care of, Liana. This conversation is not one that I want to be having.” I said, and she nodded.
“Then you shouldn’t have asked.” She said, looking away from me. I rolled my eyes and walked inside the house, frowning when I saw Cosimo standing by the window. His eyes met mine and I shook my head in question, following the man’s gaze for it to land on Liana.
“She’s been outside for the past four hours. She is refusing to come inside,” he said, and I raised an eyebrow at him.
“Any reason?” I asked, and he shook his head.
“Not that I know of. Luna Alessandra went out to speak to her. The two of them went to the cemetery, according to the deltas. Our Luna came inside, she chose to stay out.” He said, and I frowned.
“What were they doing at the cemetery?”
“I took her there,” mom said, catching my attention. “I spoke to her, just as any Luna would be speaking to her son’s wife.”
I had to fight back a response that almost escaped my lips, knowing well enough that what she was doing was out of the line. Her interfering in what I did with my life was never something that I allowed. It was one of the main reasons why she didn’t like Claire. She wasn’t a woman of her choice, unlike Liana…
“I am going to say this one more time, mother.” I said, nodding at Cosimo to leave. The man walked away, dismissing himself, and I turned my attention to my mother. She crossed her arms over her chest, waiting for what I was going to tell her. “I married her for ONE reason and one alone…”
“I am going to be the one to stop you,” she said, stopping me. “I don’t care what you will tell me, I am going to be the one to speak. The woman that you married is your wife and you two are going to act as so. Otherwise, I am going to interfere, and whether or not you like it, I am going to do so.”
“I am not going to allow you to ruin what your father and I built. For years, he and his father before him and your great grandfather before them have worked hard to achieve what they have. If I have to draw a line, I will, and trust me when I say, you are not going to like it when I do so.” She said, and I smiled, looking her in the eye as I did. She frowned when she saw how calm I was and I nodded, looking out the window at the woman who sat on the front porch.
“I am not a stranger that would fear your plain threats, mama.” I said, referring to Liana. “I don’t know what you told her, but I can assume that it has something to do with what you told me. Nevertheless, one thing that you are going to need to understand about me…”
“In this pack, there is ONE Alpha, and that person is me. I don’t care how many women you bring in or how many people you try to put in front of me. If I don’t want something, I am not going to do it. And if you don’t like it, then you are going to have to accept it. This is my life and MY time as Alpha. Your and father’s reign is done. From here on out, it is my time,” I said, taking a step back. “I suggest that you and everyone who is forgetting that to keep it in mind. Otherwise, trust me, none of you is going to like the outcome of it.”
I didn’t wait for her response as I walked toward my bedroom, and taking a glance out the window, I shook my head when I saw the rising wind, knowing that the night was going to be a cold one. I picked a blanket from the closet, it was one that I had in case it wasn’t too cold and I chose to go against the thicker ones, and walked down the stairs toward the door. Mom, who was shocked by my statement, was in the living room, clearly angry as she snapped at two maids who were fixing the pillows.
I walked out of the house and toward Liana who didn’t bother looking at me. I draped the blanket over her shoulders, taking the woman off guard before taking a step back. “It’s going to be a cold night and though I can’t force you to come inside, a blanket should help keep you warm.”
She ran her hand over it before looking up at me. “Thank you,”
I nodded in response as I took a step back to walk inside. “The blanket doesn’t mean that you should stay out all night.”
“I would prefer staying out if I am going to go inside to sleep alone as a new bride.”
“I never said that you would be staying in your room alone.” I said, making the woman frown in confusion as I ignored the clench that I felt in my chest, knowing that I was calling her to my room, betraying my mate as I did. “I’ll be waiting for you in my room. Excuse me…”
