Liana:
I forced myself to walk back to the house, knowing that the Alpha not only didn’t want me as his wife, but that the duties that the two of us were supposed to do as husband and wife wouldn’t be happening.
The idea of facing my own family with that fact was not one that I was going to risk, but with his beta and mother knowing about it, I didn’t know how that was going to work out.
I rang the bell only to be surprised by his mother, Luna Alessandra, also known as Alexandra, the strongest of Lunas.
She looked at me and I looked down at my feet, avoiding her eyes, knowing better than to double cross her. She was known for her kindness, but she was also known for her power, and there was a reason why she was known for her power.
“Come with me, Liana.” She said, making me frown in confusion as she walked out of the house. She looked at me for a second, studying my expression, and though I did my best not to show any emotion, I had to admit that I couldn’t help but find myself wondering where anything was going from here.
The two of us walked in silence for a few seconds, and it wasn’t until we reached what looked like a cemetery did the woman speak. “When my husband crossed the bridge, taking his last breath in my arms years ago, I promised him that I would not allow anyone to ruin the order that he and the family have created. I promised that my son would be a great leader just as he was. Little did I know, fate would not be on my side.”
“I don’t understand?” I asked, and she smiled.
“Things changed for my son, and for the past year, since her death, he has not been the same.” She said, making me frown. “He is going to soften, just give him time. He would be doing his duties as your husband as you would as his wife.”
“I doubt that this is something that you should be interfering in, Luna. With all due respect, but I am neither a w***e who would sell her body for his pleasure and I doubt that a man would touch a woman he doesn’t want to. Us laying together, according to what he said, seems to be almost impossible.” I said, and she smiled.
“Your arrogance is one that I like, I have to admit. You being an Alpha born gives you that right, but if you wish for your family to be safe and your brother to live, I doubt that you going against me is going to be in your favor.” She said, stopping in front of a grave. It was of a woman, her name, Claire D’Angelo and as her face was engraved on the stone, a child was in her arms. It was of the woman that I believed that she spoke of. It seemed that she was with child when she passed.
“Is that a threat?” I asked, and she shook her head, giving me the same cold and sarcastic smile that she had earlier. The woman was taunting me, it was something that didn’t take me long to figure out.
“A warning, if you would like to call it. It is more or less something for you to watch out for.” She said, taking a step back. “Defiance is not something that I like, and when you are new to a family, you should be smart enough to lay low and listen to what you are told. That is, of course, if you wish to live.”
“I doubt that I am here for warnings, I came to ensure the safety of my family; it seems to me that it something that you don’t care about,” I said, and she hummed in response.
“I am going to give you a word of advice, one that I would recommend that you take into heart. Because trust me, you are going to need it. When you are in a position like the one you’re in, every piece of advice is as valuable as gold.” She said, turning to walk, expecting me to walk with her. I had to admit, I did debate on not doing so, wanting to see her reaction before I chose to stop myself. I followed her in silence, and she smiled, as if knowing that she got what she wanted. “You are going to stay out of trouble, and if you want your marriage, which means your family’s safety, to last, you are going to do what you are required. Otherwise, trust me when I say, it is not going to end well, neither for you nor for them.”
“And I am not one to throw blind threats.” She said, looking back at the graves for a second before she turned to leave. “Be sure to keep that in mind before you come back inside the house. I would be hoping that the two of us have reached a mutual understanding…”
