I pulled into the compound spinning my wheels. There was a huge cloud of dust that coated the Jeep. Matt ran out of the house at full speed as I scooped up Katie, and handed her to him “Here, take her directly to Dr. Nelson. She’ll give her fluids to get the Ketamine out of her system.” Matt nodded and took off towards the hospital. I turned to the yard where the whole rest of our pack was shifted and ready to go. I could see Kevin in the forefront of the pack, followed by Cade and few others. I didn’t see Gavin among them. Go figure, he’s probably still pouting in his office. That’s when I saw him step out onto the front porch. He put his finger up in the air and curled it towards his chest. f**k, here we go. “Gavin, we don’t have time for this s**t! We have minutes-” He held up his hand in front of my face and closed his eyes. “Inside. Now.” He then pointed his finger to the open door. Gavin gave a tight nod to the warriors waiting in the treeline before following me inside. I spun around towards him once I heard the door click. “You can not just treat me like a child in front of my pack!” He closed his eyes and crossed his arms. He took a deep, shaky breath, no doubt trying to keep his composure. “And YOU cannot disrespect me in front of our pack.” Well, at least he said our pack.

“Stella, what were you thinking? You picked the shadiest bar to go to? You put both you and Katie in extreme danger. No wonder Matt wouldn’t sit still the whole night. His wolf knew something was wrong. Now you bring these fuckers back to our home?”

Gavin pressed his fingers to the bridge of his nose. I couldn’t hold it back anymore. “You think I wanted this to happen? The only reason that I went out with Katie tonight was to blow off some steam because of the way that you’ve been treating me.” Gavin’s eyes shot open, “You didn’t even give me a chance to apologize. You stormed out and threw your engagement ring at me. What was I supposed to do? You clearly didn’t want me to follow you.” I could see the hurt in his eyes but I knew that I couldn’t back down now, we were so close to clearing this fuckery up. I took a couple soothing breaths before looking into his eyes. “Gavin, you’ve had weeks to apologize. Instead you made me twist and wriggle like a worm on a hook. If you knew you were treating me like s**t then why did you continue with it?” I could see his eyes turning red, he was about to cry.

“I’m so sorry bug, I know that none of this was your fault. It just wasn’t the right time for us. I couldn’t stop thinking about the pup that we lost. What he would have become, what he would have looked like, how much we would have loved him. I didn’t know how to process it, so I just shut down. I didn’t mean for you to feel like I was angry with you. I was just so broken that I didn’t want to open up to anyone. I am so sorry that I hurt you like that.” I’ve heard that before. Tears were now streaming down his face. I could understand the way he felt but I didn’t understand why he didn’t think that we could get through this together.

He buried his face in his hands and continued to cry. I took a deep breath and stepped towards him. If we were ever going to get past this, I knew that I would have to forgive him. I’m not like that with most people, but he is my mate and I could still feel our bond. It hadn’t been severed, which means that the Goddess still wanted us to be together. The question is, did I?

I took a step forward and grabbed his elbows and pulled down so I could see his face. He was surprised to see me standing in front of him. I pressed my head against his chest and felt his arms wrap around me. He leaned down and planted a kiss in my curls before resting his chin on my head. “You will never treat me like that again, this is the last strike. I don’t care if I murder someone in front of you. I don’t have much more forgiveness left.” I said this declaration with my head still pressed to his heart. “Never again bug, I promise.” I closed my eyes and inhaled his sandalwood and coconut.

Just as my heart started to calm, I heard screaming mixed with growls just outside the front door. My eyes shot open and goosebumps covered my body. I felt Scarlet awaken and she was on high alert. After a few minutes, I didn’t get anything back so I tried for Matt.

Morning Mattie, how is she doing?

She’s okay, a little groggy from the lingering drugs but Doc says that she’ll be back to her old self by the end of the day. Dr. Nelson said that her wolf, Roxie is flushing the drugs out quickly.

About an hour later I woke up to an empty bed. I freaked out for a fraction of a second before settling when I heard our bedroom door open. I sat up when I saw Gavin coming in with a tray of food. “Morning bug, I brought you some greasy food to soak up the rest of the alcohol in your stomach.” The sudden wave of nausea hit me, I was more hung over than I thought. My mouth started to water at the smell of bacon. I started to devour my food the second Gavin set the tray on my lap. He curled up next to me as I ate. “I’m so sorry bug, I’m sorry that I’ve made the last couple weeks miserable for us. I missed you so much, I just didn’t know where to start.” I had a mouth full of eggs when I wanted to respond. I swallowed the large chunk and clutched my chest, that almost went down the wrong pipe. I took a swig of orange juice to clear the blockage, I knew the suspense was killing him.

“I know what we went through was the toughest thing that we’ve had to face. Besides the whole kidnapping thing. I just didn’t expect you to just phase me out, I thought that we were stronger than that. I’m not going to say that I forgive you 100%, but this breakfast in bed is a good start.” Gavin nodded tightly, “Now, I want to shower and get the bar smell off of me and then I want to go visit Katie, are you coming with me?” Gavin smiled at me, “Of course bug, I will never leave your side again.” hopefully this time he means it.

I dressed quickly and threw my hair up in a bun. Gavin was waiting for me in the living room. “You look so beau-” I walked right past him as I shook my head, “No time, I have a best friend to apologize to.”

We walked into Katie’s room. She was eating a similar breakfast that I had eaten a little earlier. Good greasy food to soak up the rest of the toxins. Dr. Nelson was checking her vitals when we stepped up to the side of the bed. Katie beamed when she saw me, I was sure that she would be beyond pissed. “Stella! What a surprise. I walked over and sat next to her on the bed. “Katie, just because you were having fun does not mean that it was your fault you were drugged. Those fuckers tried to take advantage of you. Yes, we both should have been paying more attention, but it’s not like we brought this on ourselves. We were just trying to have a good time, that didn’t give them the right to drug you.” her face fell a bit as she nodded. I leaned over carefully so I didn’t disturb the wires that she was connected to. “I love you Katie, don’t ever forget that. If I had to protect you with my life again, I would do it in a heart beat. I just wanted to come check on you. Now, get some rest, I’ll come back in a couple hours.” She kissed my cheek before I stood up from the bed. I blew her a kiss before Gavin and I disappeared out of the room.

We were just about to walk out of the hospital when I heard Dr. Nelson call after us. “Luna! Luna!” I turned around when she was about 10 feet from us, “I was wondering if you wanted to stick around, I need to do your follow up.” Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I nodded back at her before turning to Gavin, he read my mind. “I told you that I’m not leaving your side. Let’s go.” He grabbed my hand and we followed Dr. Nelson back inside.

“You’re healing quiet well Luna, I would say about another 2 or 3 days and you should be good to go. You’re lucky that Scarlet knew to alert Gavin, if he didn’t bring you in when he did you could have lost one of your tubes.” I nodded in agreement. I am glad that they were both there to protect me. Dr. Nelson stepped over to the sink to wash her hands. “Hey doc?” Dr. Nelson turned to look at her Alpha, “I was wondering if we could do a few tests… on me.”

We were both shocked, I tugged on Gavin’s sleeve so he would look down at me. “Don’t worry bug, I just want to make sure that we’re both good to go.” I sucked my lips in and nodded. Dr. Nelson smiled at Gavin before turning to me. “I’ll be right back Luna, why don’t you get dressed and I’ll give you a summary of where to go from here.” I nodded as Gavin stepped forward to follow Dr. Nelson.

This was it, we would find out if it was him or me.

By the time I was dressed Dr. Nelson had knocked on the door. “Come in!” She peeped her head in to make sure that I was decent. She was carrying her clipboard with my chart. She grabbed her rolling stool and sat in front me on the bed. “So I looked closer at your blood work, there are no major red flags. You are just slightly anemic, so you need to watch your blood pressure and your sugar levels. I know that you’ve been through a lot lately so it’s no surprise that your pressure is a little high. The more alert you are to danger the more stress you will accrue. Other than that, you are perfectly healthy and everything seems to be in working order.” I nodded along as she spoke and then I smiled when she told me that I was in ship shape. Okay, so it wasn’t me. Now we just needed to wait for Gavin’s tests. Doc said that they would be ready in a few days, so now all we need to do is wait.

A few days later Dr. Nelson called. Gavin and I were camped out in his office when the call came through. I ran over and curled up in his lap before I swiped the screen. “Hello Dr. Nelson.” She took a deep breath on the other end of the line. “Hello Luna, is Alpha around?” I shot Gavin a look. “Yes, he’s here. You are on speaker.” There was a short pause before she continued. “Good. I don’t want to keep you guys waiting with the results. I’m calling to tell you that there is nothing wrong with you Alpha. Everything seems to be in working order, there shouldn’t be any issues going forward. Just remember that practice makes perfect! That being said, keep me updated as you continue to try. We will check back in in a couple months. There is no need to worry, It would raise concern after 6 months or more.”

Gavin and I beamed at each other, at least we knew that there was nothing mechanically wrong with either of us. Maybe there was a higher power that was keeping us from conceiving.

We thanked Dr. Nelson and hung up. I slid my phone onto Gavin’s desk and turned to kiss him. He wrapped his arms around me and I felt him fussing with my bra strap.
