Raelynn
The pictures didn’t take long. We definitely had to tame it down with an adult in the room. He took pictures of everything just to make sure we ended up with a few we loved.
“Enough pictures. Everyone take a seat.” Jerrick told us as he sat down on Sasha’s love seat. “So, I have some bad and good news, which should I start with?”
“Bad,” Sasha and I said at the same time. We looked at each other and giggled before sitting on her bed facing Jerrick.
“I swear you guys should have been twins.” He laughed before getting serious. “First Terrace Purgatory University called and you will be leaving tonight at midnight, Sasha. I know it is about a month earlier than we had planned but the dean wouldn’t take no for an answer. They have a few of their own meeting us for you to go.”
“Ugh.” Sasha groaned, crossing her arms over her chest. “Did he say why? I had so many things planned plus I am not ready to leave, Rae-Rae.”
I rubbed her back and gave her a small smile. I wasn’t ready for her to leave either. I wouldn’t see her until Christmas break if she could even make it back. I was headed to the local college to get my associates before heading off to whatever vet school would take me.
“I asked him and he said he had his reasons.” Jerrick shrugged. “Now onto the good news. He told me that Rae is now to attend the university.”
Sasha screamed in excitement and hugged me. I just sat there. I was probably in shock but I wasn’t for sure if it was good or bad shock. Me? A human at a school for the supernatural… Yeah, I wouldn’t stick out like a sore thumb or anything.
“Wait, Dad. Rae is human,” Sasha said as she finally realized the dilemma I was trying to figure out.
“Yea, I may be able to kick more than half your packs asses in a hand-to-hand fight but that is where my winning streak ends.” I admitted as I straightened my back and a big grin spread across my face. “Is this them trying to suck up for something or do they have human quota to meet each semester? I am telling you now I am will not be a walking blood bag for some vampire.”
“That will not happen, Rae.” Sasha scolded narrowing her eyes at me before scooting closer. “No one will touch you or I’ll let Nova have a new dog toy.”
“With how protective you are of each other; I am glad you are both going.” Jerrick said with a smile. “I can’t visit very often and not all breaks will you be able to make it back to see me.”
“Ok, but what about the fact that I am human and more apt toward dying instead of shifting into a huge creature to protect myself.” I urged him for an answer of either I had some sort of protection, or this was a joke.
“I know you are freaking out but you have to realize that you aren’t 100% human,” he stated like it was a normal sentence. “Come on, Rae. You are a so-called human who can beat my pack in fighting among some weird occurrences that have happened. The Dean is the one who said you aren’t fully human so that means you are to attend. You will do great there.”
I looked between him and Sasha before I felt tears on my cheeks. “Please don’t make me leave, Jerrick. This has been the best home I have ever had and I have only gotten to belong for four years now,” I cried out. “I will do all online classes so I am away from the rest of the humans. I’ll do more chores around the pack and anything else you want.”
I came to him at the age of fourteen as a runaway from my ninth foster home and he didn’t even have to think on it before saying I could stay here. Sasha had seen me at the local park, made me play with her, and dragged me home with her. I will be forever thankful for that. I didn’t want to disappoint him by going to this school and making a mockery of his pack. What if they were wrong and I was just a human? Would the school kick Sasha out right along with me?
Jerrick patted the seat beside him and I ran to it. He wrapped his arm around my shoulders and hugged me close to his side. I shoved my face into his shoulder and let out a sob. I was not prepared for this kind of news ever. I could hear Sasha crying with me as she sat on the other side of me and roped her arm through mine.
“You did nothing wrong, you hear me.” He pulled my head up to face him. “You are something special and it is time you learned what exactly that was. I never planned on sending you anywhere you didn’t want to go but I know this is where you were meant to go. I love you like my own daughter and I need you safe just like I need Sasha safe.” He kissed my hand before turning his gaze onto his daughter. “I need you to promise to take care of yourself and Rae.”
Sasha stood up and fell into his arms telling him she was going to make him proud and no one would hurt either of us. “I love you. Dad. If you or the pack needs anything tell us so we can try our best to help. It would make me feel better since I won’t be here in person.”
I shoved myself between them and joined their hug. Both of their scents surrounded me and calmed me letting me focus on the love of our family. We would get through this and I would make sure Sasha made it back to become the next female Alpha of this pack.
Jerrick stood up and pushed us back. “How about you two fix your make up and we head down to get our groove thing on?”
“Stop it, Dad.” Sasha groaned in embarrassment. “Give us a few minutes and we will meet you downstairs.”
