Chapter 8: Try Hard (2) *** “Thank you for inviting me but I’m very busy with work these days… Maybe another time.” Felix said in his professional call center voice. Even though he hated the woman he spoke to, he wasn’t planning on being openly hostile towards her, that would bring him nothing good, especially not now when he was getting into show business. “Oh come on! Make some time for me, will you?” Sandra insisted. “We haven’t seen each other in so long… and others from our class would like to see you as well!” She continued. “I’m sorry, it’s just not possible.” Felix said with a gentlemanly voice, yet internally he cursed. ‘Bitching to me won’t make me want to go, you know? Maybe because you have your daddy to pay for everything for you, you wouldn’t know but some people have to work! Not only are you irritating but you think you can use people however you’d like… I will not be on your beck and call you sad excuse of a woman…’ Those harsh words the man thought in his mind weren’t even the slightest bit reflected in his voice as he spoke. “Please, please, pretty please! There’s going to be a class reunion this Saturday at least show your face there for a bit!” Sandra continued insisting on meeting the man. Since she saw she wouldn’t be able to meet him alone she suggested another alternative. ‘I don’t want to see you, nor any of our annoying classmates! Did you think I don’t know about the stupid reunion? I do. But does that mean I’m going? No way on earth am I stepping foot anywhere near you guys…’ Felix continued cursing in his mind then slowly opened his lips and apologized. “I’d completely forgot about the class reunion… and this Saturday is such a short notice. I probably won’t be able to make it.” “Come onnn~! Everyone’s going to be there! Jake, and Tom, and Katelyn, Ava, Hannah, Brad and even Edgar!” Sandra listed off several names from the top of her head. The woman has always been persistent ever since High School, so it didn’t come as much of a surprise to the young actor as he listened to the woman. ‘And once again… I don’t care… If I ever cared to look at our damned classmates I would have opened the graduation album…’ Felix cursed again in his mind. The woman was becoming increasingly more annoying the more she spoke. “Ah, you know who else is going to be there? Romeo is going to be there!” Sandra said with an excitement like no other. ‘Huh… did I just hear that right? Romeo is going to be there…’ Felix remembered one person in High School that he didn’t hate. That man’s name seemed to bring back memories, not particularly pleasant but they weren’t bad either. After thinking about it for a short while the man finally agreed. “I’ll free up my schedule.” “Amazing! Everyone is going to be so happy to see you again!” Sandra said as she quickly ended the call. ‘You said what you wanted to say and then just end it… what a b***h…’ Felix knew the woman hadn’t changed a bit since their high school days. She was the same old annoying person she always was. And he genuinely had no intention of going to this event but… Knowing that Romeo was there began to change his mind… Romeo was one of the few people that respected Felix and stood by his side when he needed the most. They weren’t the closest of friends nor complete strangers, you could say they had a strange relationship where they would keep each other company from time to time. When they spoke it never was about anything below the surface level pleasantries. They’d say ‘hello’ to each other in the hallway and sometimes eat together in the cafeteria. All simple things but they made Felix found of the man since he didn’t have anyone around him in the first place. Some people might have thought he was a lone wolf, a cool person for spending his High School days on his own but in reality he was simply an outcast. It wasn’t that he didn’t want friends, it was that he never found anyone he wanted to be friends with. And since most people avoided him because he came from a humble background with many family issues… Nobody wanted to be involved with them more than necessary but Romeo was different… He was the only person that didn’t seem to care about any of those things and stayed beside him for quite some time in their High School days. Those memories to Felix weren’t special, in fact the days they spent together were quite mundane with nothing particularly interesting happening. However he liked the man, for being the only person he could talk to even if it was just surface level nonsense, it still felt good to have someone around. ‘I wonder how he’s changed though the years…’ Felix thought to himself as he finally headed to the bathroom to take a shower. It would help him clear his thoughts a bit. He was curious to see Romeo again, since they haven’t kept in touch ever since graduating. On the very last day they saw each other all that they said to one another was: ‘Congratulations on graduating.’ Which as per usual was as far as the two interacted with each other… What they had with one another was an appropriate distance, neither of them would get too close to each other and that might have been what made Felix so comfortable in the other male’s presence. He didn’t feel pressured to act a certain way and he didn’t have expectations of how the other should act either. So be it just from curiosity, or maybe because he wanted to remind himself of the few memories he didn’t hate from his high school, either way he wanted to see him…
