And with that call, the other party jumped on the other and faced each other before that thing could even approach. The others who already knew what would happen already threw their dignity and ran for their lives, leaving five of them including Eliot, Hanna, and Pat, and the other two boys who were fighting over who was right.
“Eliot,” Hannah called
“I know,” Eliot tried his best to hide his trembling hands, “In any way, we can delay its attack on the village if we tire it down on this spot.”
Pat sighed, “With these rods?” he asked sarcastically, “We’ll die on the spot!”
But they all silenced down when they heard another long, deep howl in the distant area of the woods, echoing around them signaling his arrival. The boys who were fighting from the argument felt fear again and took up their rods as well as the other three who knew clearly that they wouldn’t stand a chance.
Liliech barely sensed their movements on the ground since she was stuck on the pit they dug only for this thing but she couldn’t blame them if that thing was something she ought it to be.
Leisurely she asked, “Shouldn’t you just run?”
And they all heard it clearly as they formed into a close formation where every one of them was facing outside, rods held high in each direction as Liliech was completely ignored.
“Lycans are vicious. They are savage and uncontrolled, they are attracted to the high density of flesh and meat and could swallow up a whole village. Are you really not gonna run?” she called
And hearing her words that were precise as they can be, they looked at the entrance of the pit they dug for how many days when they patrolled this area. Meters away from the pit, Eliot asked, “How did you know it’s a Lycan?”
“Its howl is completely calm but eerie, long and strong unlike the loud and stretching howls of wolves.” she replied in a lazy tone, “When did that thing come into this place?”
Seeing she started talking in sense of the situation, Eliot answered, “About two weeks ago, it appeared on our border and killed two of our patrolmen.”
Liliech nodded, “How was it?”
“How was it?” Eliot asked back
“How were the flesh and bones?” Liliech curiously asked with the tinge of anticipation that was brought by her tone and that made them frown deeply.
“What do you think are you saying?!” Hannah blurted out remembering that brutal scene upon finding their residuals from the b****y attack but they all straightened up when they finally heard a low growl just right on the bushes meters away from them.
They couldn’t longer control their trembling as they held their rods tighter, teeth-gritting as they bit the last hope that someone would come to save them.
They could hear the low growl from the bushes and it could be clearly heard that it was drooling, salivating on the flesh-meat just right before its eyes.
“We should have just run…” one of the boys who were arguing against them spoke, sweat taking over his forehead. The fear had already crept inside of him and he turned around, wanted to run from the spot but he was yet to reach five steps when a big shadow jumped from the bushes and before he could even turn around, his neck was gnawed by several sharp teeth that broke his spinal cord right on that moment. The other four were completely stupefied and held their breath as the slender but vicious Lycan gnawed on the screaming boy.
Its figure was like a starving dog but its figure was long, looking stretched. Its legs were bent to have them stand on two feet but their arms were like two sharp dog arms that enabled them to combat their prey and target. Their mouth was stretched outside and bear sharp fangs but even though it has a thin body, it still has his flexibility when they jumped swiftly from the bush in just a blink.
The boy who was caught had already stopped screaming and Eliot couldn’t just stand still, he immediately moved and threw the sharp-edged rod towards the Lycan but it didn’t even give a scratch instead, the attention of the beast turned towards them.
It snarled as if it saw a prey and an enemy.
Seeing that Eliot was in his fighting stance, the others followed through as they pointed their rods at the slender beast. The beast may be fast but it wasn’t invisible, they cornered him around, making a circular formation as what they have practiced, and when Eliot finally called the go signal, they pushed inside and struck the beats with their pointed rods, the lycan seemed to be not that keen and they succeeded in striking its lower abdomen. It howled greatly, loud and pitiful but it struggled and waved its sharp nails around them that they loosened their hold from the rods and let it escape. It ran but before it could even run away completely to hide inside the woods again, Eliot took Hannah’s rod and threw it out, with great speed and strength it struck the Lycan and it yelped in a beastly howl, it cried in agony as it fell on the ground.
Everyone cheered, “You’re so good!” slapping Eliot’s arm, “I didn’t think it was this easy!” Pat exclaimed. He almost felt his heart explode from the tension but the bliss he got upon killing the Lycan, whom everyone feared, made him imagine several things in delight.
“What would the chief reward us by killing this beast?” he asked excitingly but Eliot and Hannah’s faces were solemn.
“Is it dead?” Hannah asked Eliot ignoring Pat.
Eliot stared at the pitiful figure of the beast on the ground, “It must be.”
But they heard a frustrating sigh from the pit that made them turn around.
“Why did you kill the child?”
