10 Before they could even calm themselves from the sudden tension, Liliech’s voice seemed to have given warning as the breeze became deadly silent, the sky darkened as the dark clouds covered the sun, the shade it gave rained crept into their hearts as they heard quick and sneaky sounds all around them. Their heads and ears became more alert, knowing that there seemed to be something lurking around the area. One of the boys trembled, “W-What did she mean by that?” as his head jerked to every side hearing the distant crumbling of leaves. “We should have just run you damn idiots!” he exclaimed in fright. “Shut up!” Hannah hushed him, “If you want to run, then run! We won’t stop you!” Almost fed up, the boy no longer could think of anything and stepped backward, he finally turned away and ran to the other side of the woods leaving the others behind. “Hey! Come back here!” Pat called seeing their friend completely run away. “Eliot!” he turned back to the other boy but he stopped when he noticed how the other three trembled to hold their rods, eyes fixated in front as if something was currently in there. “What…” “Ssh…” Hannah stopped him, sweat was rolling down her face as well as the other two who seemed to be afraid of making any sounds and not being too ignorant to the fear that had long been planted on their hearts, Pat gulped and held his rod high again only to jump in fright when something was thrown behind them. Those things rolled on the ground then they stopped right on Pat’s foot only to see the b****y head of their friend who had just run a moment ago. He screamed and stumbled back in fright, trembling as those dead eyes were open as if it was the last moment of his life. Eliot and Hannah immediately dragged Pat towards them and then saw the head’s body that was thrown at the same time, lying in a corner with the visible bite on his shoulder. Eliot felt the fear resurface inside of him as his hands held the rod tighter. “It’s bigger…” he said in a low voice as they can already hear the low but deadly growl of another Lycan on the other side. Liliech was already sitting on the ground with heads up, staring at the entrance of the pit eyes fixated on the dancing leaves by the trees, the gaps hinting at the darkened sky above. She sighed frustratingly, never in her life she had expected that she would stay in a childish pit like this, sitting and waiting for someone that could help her out. Her body felt light and weak, she couldn’t even make a jump out of here which was depressing for Liliech. She had already pondered things all over but still couldn’t believe that she was now living in another body, that she no longer had her previous abilities, that she became a wimp! She sighed frustratingly. The only way to make things clear was to go back to her house located on the deepest part of this wood, her other half, the place where she would know herself better. With all of her years of journeying the wild, she had already collected a lot of books, herbs, and a lot of exclusive things that would surely help this world become a better place but she kept it all in her house for future purposes and this was the right time for goodness sake, she needs to review those ancient books she kept if there was a spell like this and how to revert it back. A f*******n spell that would make those higher witches go nuts. Liliech snorted, those who cast this on her should better hide. She was completely lost in thought when she flinched upon hearing a screeching scream above, “Hey! What happened!” she called involuntarily but no one answered. They’re all wiped out? In that thought, she immediately stood. Her chance of getting out of here had been reduced to none. But she suddenly heard a yell, “Push it forward towards the pit!” Hearing Liliech’s voice, Pat screamed as he, Hannah, and Eliot remained to take down the beast. Their rod was on the beast’s neck, abdomen, and chest, it was the chance they got after one of their friends was caught by this big and savage Lycan. Its mouth drooling with the pool of blood and flesh, gritting its sharp fangs in his two-legged posture, hunchbacked as he attack the kids but they were braver than they look to be. With that opening, they pierced the beast that made it stop on his track. It growled against them but they took hold of it, pushing it further. “Let’s push it down on the pit!” Pat screamed to the both of them, yelling it twice but Hannah and Eliot seemed to be in a hesitation despite their struggle in holding the lycan. Pat was completely angry and yelled again, “WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!” “There’s a person on that pit Pat!” Hannah yelled back, her whole body was trembling, her lips pale but she still had the thought of thinking of Liliech who got caught in their trap. Same as Eliot who was already exerting his utmost strength in piercing the Lycan’s body but it seemed to be elastic that their sharpened rods couldn’t dig in the dipper. “WE’RE GOING TO DIE AT THIS RATE!” Pat screamed “You should try taking out its neck with all your force. Lycans had the very thick and flexible skin in all of the beasts out there, you cannot kill them with your cheap sticks. The only thing you can do with it is to severe its head, that is if you can.” It was Liliech’s voice, plain and calm as if she was just advising some kids how to play with a dog. “Who do you think you are?!-“ Pat’s words were interrupted when the Lycan took a step forward, its foot long and bent but its strength takes up three adults at once which made them grunt in pain as they held it back from going forward. It snarled to them, its saliva was mixed with blood as it drooled on the fleshy meat in front of him. It was hungry as shown how flat its stomach is, just like the previous one, it was also thin but stronger. “Oh, we’re all going to die out here.” Liliech voice sounded again but Eliot need to take the risk knowing that her suggestion made sense. “Hannah, Pat. Dig the rods deeper to its flesh.” he said as he shifted his hand on the way he held the wooden rod, both of his palms held the lower part, “In my signal, push everything you have against the beast.” “Eliot-“ But before they could even say a word, Eliot already shouted, “1, 2…Go!” Eliot may seem bossy but Hannah and Pat knew he was reliable enough and when they heard his signal, they both immediately gathered all of their strength on their feet and pushed back the Lycan as Eliot took his rod away from the beast’s abdomen and swiftly run to the side. Feeling that their strength had lessened by one rod, the Lycan growled intensely and balanced himself against their force, it broke the rods that were keeping him in place and when he was about to attack Hannah and Pat, he heard a whistle by the side. His eyes sharpened and snarled at Eliot, he started chasing the boy and when Eliot finally gained the perfect momentum, he stopped running then swiftly turned back to face the approaching beast, he positioned the rod and when the Lycan was finally five steps away, he threw it up in all force. The sharp edge of the rod struck its neck and the Lycan gurgled as if it wanted to scream, its body stiffened as he tried to take off the rod from him but he ended up on his knees, blood flowing as it continuously scratch the rod. The three were still stupefied from the sudden turn of events and stayed in their position, panting as their eyes remained wide from the scene of the Lycan pitifully hanging on to its life, slowly, its movements became slower until it couldn’t longer move. The Lycan’s weakness was always on its neck towards its nape where the spinal cord is connected, their main organs just like how the other beasts in Alria were always the brain and the body, and the spinal cord. The Spinal cord was the bridge and a bridge was always the fatal one in connecting the two main different things. They were still panting from the shock and fatigue that they exerted on two single lycans. Pat dropped to the ground as Hannah and Eliot didn’t take their eyes off the Lycan. “We…We should go back to the village…” Pat said hands trembling that he couldn’t control. They were just sent to temporarily guard the border of the village but met such a terrible encounter. That all didn’t expect this. Hannah and Eliot agreed to Pat, they couldn’t longer face another beast at this rate and it's almost sundown, they shouldn’t linger around here anymore. Even though they’ve lived for a very long time around the border of these woods, they still prey on the lingering beast around. Hannah and Pat assisted Eliot who had a broken wrist and ankle from the impact he made from the twist and blow to the Lycan. “Can we even make it to the village?” Hannah asked as the wood started to darken, the sun was already setting in the west and the temperature around dropped. “We couldn’t.” Eliot declared, grunting at the pain his wrist and foot were feeling. “Then should we leave by morning?” Pat asked with panic in his voice, eyes traveling around as if he was seeing several Lycans lurking around them. “I’m afraid we couldn’t survive by then,” he muttered in fear Hannah was also contemplating their situation, if they ever walk away right from this spot and traveled back to the village which was miles away from this area, they should surely attract more beasts awake by night and if they stayed here, the danger will also preside. They all stood full of thought and doubt whether they could go home today that they didn’t sense the movement behind them. The Lycan that they thought had died from the rod on its neck slowly stood, its wound regenerated after a few minutes of unconsciousness. It was more lively than earlier as he bares its fangs and claws, b****y and gore, and was about to plunge on the kids who had still their backs on him when suddenly, he was dragged viciously by another beast. The lycan whimpered as its fangs dug deep into his neck, even using its claws to tear down the body of the lycan until it weakened against its hold and eventually died as the werewolf took out its head from its shoulder. Blood spurt and the kids who were still muttering whether they should go home or go some night-hunting stood stupefied from the sudden clamor. They just saw the supposed-to-be-dead Lycan relived but eventually got torn down by the mysterious big brown wolf. As the final ray of the sunset stretched into the sky towards the woods, it faded on the body of the magnificent wolf that seemed to have poured all of his anger on the Lycan. Its mouth was b****y as he approached the kids. From the several shocks they got, the kids finally dropped to the ground. Their fears earlier were nothing compared to this big wolf who had his eyes on them. He was merciless when he attacked the Lycan and they saw it all, they could only stiffen from fear. “Sir Lerio! We found Lady Lilia!” upon hearing it, the big brown wolf immediately turned to them and they saw several wolves turned into men.
