Mistakenly 11 - No Scent?

2762 Words
Turning into a wolf made Lerio finally realize their environment, the West Wood was currently in a bad situation as what he could sense around. The residential beast seemed to have retreated to the deepest part of the wood as new and dangerous scents started to spread around the place. The West Wood wasn’t a f*******n area but one of the Cardinal Spot was located here and it was that mysterious cliff that everyone was talking about. The cliff was a pit end just by the ocean, and beneath it was the said mysterious Cardinal Spot. A never-ending swirling whirlpool that occurred since time immemorial and that place was said to be filled with strong and violent energy that suck anyone who dared to step on that cliff. No one lived to those who tried to swim in that pool and despite its mysterious origin, it became a normal occurrence to the beasts as if it has always been there from the start of creation and didn’t meddle to make some research that would trigger those righteous higher witches. There are a total of four Cardinal spots around the land of Alria, in the West, East, South, and North. Every spot was different and stronger than the other but it didn’t cause any harm to the land thus, the beast also didn’t mind it but Lerio received some news about the sudden changes and threats around the West Wood and it seemed like it was true, there are varied scents around the place that weren’t here before. But what’s making him angrier was that he couldn’t sense Lilia’s scent. The air was filled with various heavy scents that blocked him from the Lady’s scent and the other wolves who were following him behind. They couldn’t track the Luna at all! But Lerio stopped when he smelled the heavy scent of blood ahead, his gray eyes squinted and told the wolves to stop through their mind link. They obediently stopped knowing the danger around. Lerio’s fur calmed but in just a blink, he suddenly plunged forward towards the bush and they heard another howl of the beast who was hiding. They brawled in great strength but the brown wolf won as it severed its head. “A Lycan?!” one of the men that Lady Beth lent spoke on their mind link. “How can a lycan be here?” one of them asked but Lerio’s figure stood in the bush, with its head looking ahead. The werewolves stared at each other and then joined him just to see a b****y scene. They low growled seeing bodies of young people scattered around the area, with their blood on trees and bushes. “Is this the Lycan’s doing?” one of them asked in the mind link again. But he was ignored again as Lerio dashed forward in speed, he need to find Lilia! And that was the moment when he arrived, at such anger of seeing the abnormality and losing Lilia. “Sir Lerio! We found Lady Lilia!” hearing those words made him relax and turned into his other form. With his n***d upper body, he strode towards the pit where the other men were waiting. “Where’s she?” he asked only to be pointed at the pit entrance, which was about two meters high. “Lilia! He called seeing her full of dirt. Liliech almost forgot about them but his expression brightened seeing those stinky figures and waved her hand, “Hey! It’s been a long time!” Lerio saw the familiar figure of the lady who had her golden hair shine amidst the darkness but he couldn’t longer trace the expression he usually had seen before. It is always the worst scenario that Lilia would cry and yell for help whenever she’s in an ugly situation and would have Lerio whipped and kicked whenever he failed to protect her, but she was now waving at them, smiling. “Do you all love looking down on me?” impatience in her voice made Lerio snap back and immediately jumped down. He landed swiftly and turned to her, “My apologies Lilia, I’ve been negligent and didn’t see those traps.” Liliech waved her hand, “It’s okay, it’s okay. Now get me out of here.” This pit wasn’t high and any beast could jump back to the surface but knowing that she was injured, Lerio thought that she maybe couldn’t do it on her own. Lerio nodded and reached for his arms towards her as if she was inviting her into his bosom. Liliech who never liked people frowned, “What?” Lerio seemed to have realized his gesture and clarified, “We need to get out of here. I will jump back as I carry you.” Liliech frowned deeper and said, “What if you just turn into a wolf and carry me up there?” Her statement made Lerio awkwardly look at her, it’s always a taboo and a humiliation when a fellow werewolf ride on another werewolf but because this is Lilia, the most pampered princess of the West, Lerio had long given up his dignity and was about to turn into a wolf when Liliech stopped him. “Stop!” she called, “How can you agree so easily like that? Do you have some self-respect?” Lerio froze again, he didn’t know what to say again. “Lady Lilia! Sir Lerio! We need to get to the village immediately! We can smell another scent of beasts around the area!” one of the men called Lerio no longer pondered Lilia’s statement and immediately pulled her as he jump back to the surface. Her safety was always the number one priority. Landing on the even ground made Liliech heave a deep breath, as she thought, various beasts already reached the woods just weeks after she died. This wasn’t about it, right? “Lady Lilia, we are glad that you’re safe but we must now head back to the village. The Wood is dangerous by sundown.” One of the men said “We also saw these kids,” Hannah, Eliot, and Pat were still frightened by their presence but hearing them speak in the same language made them feel a little secure. “They can lead us to the Village.” “We didn’t say that!” Pat exclaimed, it’s always a rule not to let some stranger lead you away. “Pat.” Eliot stopped him and turned to them, “Our village is smalland lacksk sources, we don’t have excellent accommodations to welcome you and nothing valuable. May I know your intentions on coming there?” The men were not offended and replied, “We need to see Chief Han. That is our intention.” Hearing that they knew their chief, they were now half convinced and the other half was the last hope they need to cling on to since they could visibly see how strong they were. The group started their travel as the men helped Eliot. It’s already twilight but the men showed no fear. Lerio was with the Luna and seeing her head turn from time to time to their surroundings, he held Lilia securely by his side which made her flinch. She looked at him in surprise, “Can you be a little more restrained?” she blurted from the sudden contact. Lerio and the other men abruptly turned to her, eyes on their hands but the men seemed to have instructed not to meddle with other things and they turned away immediately. But Lerio also realized his mistake and let go of her, “I’m sorry.” He said but he didn’t leave her side. Liliech seemed to be an outcast in worldly affairs but she already read enough books made by those noble vampires in the central plains about romantic affairs between beasts and she had enough emotional coaster on it but experiencing it firsthand was truly frightening! “Hey,” she called to Lerio in an almost whisper, “I need to tell you something but before that, I have a question.” Lerio turned to her inquiring gaze. “Speak your mind.” “Do you have some sort of affair with this person--on me before?” she asked directly that making Lerio choke with nothing. He paled but it wasn’t seen because of darkness, he straightened and told Lilia, “Don’t speak such nonsense.” And turned ahead. It left Liliech hanging as she stared at his back in confusion but she chased him and said in low voice, “Are you not, really?” she asked again. Lerio had composed himself and said without looking at her, “You’re beloved has always been Fargo, the alpha.” Liliech nodded, “What sort of man is he? Did he really cheat on the Luna—in me? Why did she---I fell in love with a bastard like him?” she asked casually, her voice not loud and low but enough to be heard by others. Lerio was then again stunned to hear that word from her that refers to her alpha, there seemed to be contentment in his heart, and replied, “Once we retrieved your memories, you can answer that question yourself.” Liliech silenced down. Guess no one will ever have the answer. But the fact that she was being justified by hurting her alpha’s lover could make a person feel worthless and pitiful. Liliech already experienced such so she just needs to shrug it off. “Now that I remember, we’re a lot fewer. Where are those fellow bastards?” Liliech randomly asked as she finally realized that those men who were sent by Lilia’s alpha were nowhere to be seen. “Did they got eaten?” Lerio answered, “No, we couldn’t track your scent so we separated ways in searching for you.” “You couldn’t track me?” Liliech smelt herself. Lerio nodded as they finally reached a kilometer, “There are various smells all around the place, and your scent must have been covered by those.” Liliech frowned, this body was a Luna. A chosen body, her scent was the strongest than anyone else, how can her scent be lower than those ugly beasts unless…Liliech stared at the flawless hand. Unless this body was renewed the moment her soul entered it. This was completely trouble, once they noticed something amiss. These men surely will cut her off knowing that this wasn’t their Luna. She was lost in thought when she suddenly felt something in the air. “Be careful!” one of the men yelled but right at that moment, a small creature jumped from a tree and landed on his head. Its mouth was long and wide, it bears sharp teeth as it bit the man’s neck. The man screamed in pain, his body stiffened and despite the darkness, everyone could see how his whole skin paled. Everything happened within seconds and they didn’t do anything to save their companion. “The creature bares poison!” one of them yelled and had the kids hide behind them. The creature was making strange noises and when the man finally dropped to the ground it lifted its head and plunged to the nearest person. “Lilia get back!” Lerio screamed and was ready to shield himself for her from the approaching creature when Liliech just stretched an arm and the creature welcomed itself on her palm. Her finger clasped on the creature’s little neck and it couldn’t move its chin to bite her hand off, even its small paws which were making scratches on her wrist seemed to be painless to her. Liliech stared at the creature, feeling that it wasn’t enough, she even made a closer look as her other hand held the creature’s chin and turned it from side to side. “A hybrid,” she muttered. “Lilia get your hands off-“ “A goblin and a vulture. And it’s very ugly.” She declared and her hand holding the creature’s neck made a twist as it snapped its neck off. There was a loud sound of c***k which made them all stand in silence. Just by that, Liliech threw the creature far away and wiped her hand full of drools off her pants. “Back on track, and we must hurry.” She said. No one spoke anymore and hurriedly went on their way with speed. The night was getting deeper as well as the noise of the beasts lurking around. It is just lucky that they were all beta werewolves and their presence seemed to have protected them from their advances. It was already half before midnight when they finally arrived at the small and quiet village right in the woods. They stopped at the gate made up of logs, surrounding the whole village within then one of the kids stepped up, “It’s us!” Hannah knocked and called out. The tightly shut door was then opened revealing a middle-aged man holding a rod that has a sharpened metal, he stared at Hannah then at the others, and he frowned. “Who are they?” “They said they knew the chief and wanted to talk to him,” she answered. The guard didn’t trust them immediately and called for another guard to inform the chief. It was after a long moment when the guard finally came back and relayed the message of the Chief. “Get in.” the guard finally declared and paved a path for them. The three young people heaved in relief and entered as the travelers followed suit. Lerio and Liliech was the last person to pass when the lady suddenly felt her wrist being held by the guard, eyes dark as he stared at her. “Excuse me, Sir.” It was Lerio who immediately took her wrist away from the guard and the man didn’t speak a word as his eyes still stared at her figure. “Do I look that very dashing?” Liliech asked Lerio was relieved that she didn’t make any ruckus at a stranger’s touch but he ignored her words. Then they immediately saw the whole place filled with the scent of werewolves, every hut has enough light but they could barely hear any noise. There are also people around whose eyes were fixated on them as if they were unwanted. “Are you tightly shut on this place?” one of the men asked seeing the three-meter wall made up of logs surrounding them. “Not quite, we have another door on Eastside, then to West and the South, we just entered the North Gate,” Hannah replied. “This weird wall wasn’t here in the first place but due to the sudden abnormalities in the West Wood weeks ago, our Chief ordered to make this so that we can be protected from any exterior harm.” she continued. “Weeks ago?” Lerio asked and wanted to inquire more about it but the young people already stopped at a certain hut that had more decorations than those plain ones, “This is the Chief’s hut.” Eliot said supported by Hannah and Pat. “Come in.” an elderly voice sounded inside. The young people stepped aside as they urged them to enter immediately, “Our chief is having his 200th birthday tomorrow, it’s best if you let him rest as soon as possible.” Eliot said that made them stare at each other. “We understand.” It was Lerio and with him leading, they entered the brightly lit hut. The place was covered with animal skin to keep the warmth and by the center was an elderly sitting on a mat with a few men behind him that looked like his guards. “Greetings, Chief Han.” Lerio made a salute by lifting both of his hands and the men behind him followed but Liliech didn’t even budge, she had never given proper greetings to anyone. “It’s been a long time Lerio.” The Chief seemed not to have minded her and have them sit in front of him, with their assigned mats. The man traveled his eyes on each of them and then spoke, “I guess we have an unwanted visitor,” his eyes were closed and his mouth barely open but they knew that he was looking in the direction of Liliech. “You’ve bought an Impostor.”
