AUTHOR'S POV
The Rogue Kingdom was a place no Alpha or Royalty visited except for rogues.
Colton knew deep down that his brother was corrupt royalty, so it was highly likely he had connections with rogues, even if it was wrong. Therefore, his presence in the Black Moon pack wasn't his business. He needed to get the antidote to Amelia before it was too late, so he left them and continued flying to his house.
He arrived and flew down to his house. He walked to the entrance, gently pushed the door open, and climbed to the room where Amelia was, using the stairs.
At the door of Amelia's room, he knocked, and she opened it for him.
Amelia's eyes moved from his face to his hands and noticed he was holding something she couldn't see well. She knew in her heart it must be the potion.
"Welcome back," she greeted with a wide smile. Colton returned the smile and walked into the room. "I swear, you were quick. I didn't even expect you to come back tonight. I thought you would come back tomorrow morning or later, but you were quick," she said, still smiling widely.
She closed the door and walked side by side with Colton as they made their way to sit on her bed.
"You got the potion, right?" Amelia asked as soon as they sat down, still smiling. She couldn't wait to feel her wolf again. Her heart was filled with joy at the moment.
Colton nodded in response.
He began untying the potion, which was wrapped in leaves. After he was done unfolding it and bringing out the potion, he handed it to Amelia.
"Can I drink it now?" Amelia asked, still smiling, making Colton's heart melt.
"Yes, you can drink it anytime before 12:00 AM. That was the witch's instruction. By 12:00 AM, the potion would expire," he answered her question.
"I better drink it now because I can't afford to send you to the witch kingdom again," Amelia said, chuckling.
"To me, it’s not a stress. I can do anything for my mate."
Amelia opened the little cover of the bottle of the potion. She raised the bottle, about to pour it down her throat but stopped halfway. "Was there any prescription on how to take it by the witch, or should I just drink it all?" she asked.
Colton gestured for her to drink it all.
She poured all the pink potion into her mouth and swallowed it. It tasted very bitter, making her twist her face to show how bitter it was.
She sucked her tongue, her face still showing the potion's bitterness.
Colton let out a soft chuckle, and she playfully hit him on the shoulder, making him laugh.
"Get our mate some water to rinse her mouth," Asher said softly to Colton.
Colton excused himself from Amelia and left the room to get a cup of water. He returned after a few seconds with a cup made from a large animal horn containing water.
"Guess you need this," he said as he stood beside Amelia, handing her the cup.
She took the cup and used some water to rinse her mouth, then swallowed it. The water had some taste, but she preferred it over the potion. She repeated this two more times before handing the cup back to Colton, who then left the room to put the cup away.
He returned after a few minutes and sat beside her again.
"So... how do you feel now?" he asked.
Amelia didn't reply. She closed her eyes, trying to connect to her inner wolf but still couldn't. She tried again but still couldn't connect. It felt like she had just drunk an ordinary bitter substance. Nothing had changed.
Again, she tried but still couldn't feel her inner wolf.
She opened her eyes. "Still can't feel her. I still feel like a human," she replied to Colton's question, her happy face replaced with a saddened one, while Colton's face was filled with confusion.
He was confused as to why the antidote wasn't working. He had given Amelia the antidote on time as the witch had told him, so why was it not working?
Could it be that the witch had tricked him? That couldn't be possible because she had nothing to gain from doing that. So what could be the problem?
"Try again, please. Try reaching out to her again. I believe this time it will work," he said, his face still filled with confusion.
Amelia shut her eyes again and inhaled and exhaled slowly and calmly. The cool air of the night flowed to her through the window. She again tried to connect to her inner wolf but couldn't. It felt as though her inner wolf was dead or something.
She opened her eyes, and a tear escaped from one of them. "What if i remain like this forever?" she thought.
Without needing to be told, from Amelia's expression, Colton knew she wasn't able to connect to her wolf, so he became even more confused.
"How is this possible? I'm confused. Morgana asked me to make sure you take this potion before 12:00 AM, and though I was delayed on the way when I saw Anthony Reyes and the royal warriors in this pack, I still made it to you hours before 12:00 AM. So I'm very confused as to why it isn't working."
Amelia's expression immediately changed from saddened to curious.
"Repeat what you just said now," she said.
"I said that I'm confused as to why the potion..."
"No, no, not that part, the part about Anthony Reyes and the royal warriors," she said, her curiosity becoming more visible on her face.
"While coming back, I saw my brother... I mean Anthony Reyes and his warriors on galloping horses in this pack, each holding a lamp in their hand," he told her.
"Anthony Reyes? In the Black Moon pack? What is the Royal Family and their warriors doing in the rogues' pack?" she asked, her curiosity growing.
"I don't know, my dear. Even I asked myself the same question when I saw them," Colton said. "But anyways, that's not our concern," he added.
Anthony's arrival in the Black Moon pack was not Colton's concern. His concern at the moment was his mate, Amelia, and why the potion was not working on her.
But come to think of it, why wasn't the potion working on Amelia? Was there supposed to be a prescription on how to take the antidote? If there was, why didn't the witch tell him about it? Could it be that the witch told him about it, but he didn't hear her? Or was it the water Amelia drank after the potion that caused it?
