I watched Rain left the pub with Greg because he had been meaning to go home for I didn't know what was the reason, and I also felt like going home also because I couldn't seem to enjoy it there, but I had to wait for Jack.
I sat at the counter stools and ordered a wine. Alcohol wouldn't work on us werewolves anyway. I was waiting for my order when I saw a few stools from me where Brett was sitting and he was flirting with a woman. He was so fast on finding someone to flirt with. I used to do that but I didn't feel like looking for someone at that time. Maybe other than Rain. I could picture him beside me and maybe we would have a long nice chat.
I was thinking about our kiss at the alley: his soft lips on mine, his gentle blue eyes, his sweet velvet tongue. I secretly moaned when I remembered how good the kiss was.
My perverted thoughts were interrupted when the bartender served my wine, finally. I glanced at Brett's direction but he wasn't there anymore, including the woman.
That i***t.
He kept on messing around just because he hadn't found his mate yet.
After finishing my glass, I stood and went out of the pub because it was already getting noisy and boring. I sent Jack a message that I would go ahead of them because I had something to do.
And instead of going straight to the pack house, I turned to my left and parked a few meters away from Rain's house. I went out of the car and stayed, leaning my hips. Since the place was surrounded by tall trees, the air was colder making my hands freeze that I needed to clip it in my underarms for warmth.
The scent of an old book and vanilla. I could still smell him from that distance and it was the first time I felt that feeling of couldn't wait to see him tomorrow.
What. Are we like okay now?
Are we friends?
Maybe more than friends because we kissed already.
Lovers?
Probably, we're mates after all.
I messed my hair in irritation. What was I thinking just now? I wasn't thinking of our status here like a girl, right? What in the bloody hell was happening to me!?
I really couldn't think straight when I smell him. I looked at his house and to the dark window of the second story probably Rain's room before I went inside the car and turned around to the pack house.
**
I dressed decently after a quick shower for I didn't know why, and decently, I mean a plain white shirt under a cardigan and jeans which was unusual because I never wear plain shirts, especially a cardigan which was the only cardigan I had. So, I considered it as decent.
Maybe because I was going to Rain's house? Lol, I was a hundred percent sure I didn't dressed properly for him. It was his dad, the scout leader—err his mom too.
Yeah, his mom.
I heard Jack cleared his throat and looked at me suspiciously as I descended the stairs.
"What?" I asked and he shook his head.
Dad, who went out of the kitchen, frowned when he saw me. "Where are you going so early on a Sunday morning?" He asked and I shrugged.
"Just having an early walk. Want to go walk with me?" I said and dad shook his head.
"Luke's waiting for me. Maybe next time." He said and I nodded in understanding. Nuh, I asked dad because I knew he was busy.
"I want to go with you." Jack said.
"No." I said and he frowned.
"Why? Are you visiting a secret lover?"
I narrowed my eyes at him. Does he know we're mates?
"No." I said and jogged to the front doors. "Stay there." I motioned my hand to him and he raised a brow at me. "I'm serious."
I went out of the pack house and jogged to the forest. I could smell the fresh morning humid air and it even made my mood better. Rain's house isn't that far from the pack house, just a few meters passing the forest trees.
I stopped and glanced at the two-story melon painted house but something was unusual. I turned when I heard footsteps and the sound of someone stepping on those dried leaves. It was Trent and Estelle, Rain's parents and they were surprised to see me in front of their house.
"Zach. What brought you here?" Estelle said and I smiled at them.
Even I didn't even know why I was there early in the morning.
"Uhh, I was just passing." I said.
"Why don't you go inside with us and have some hot coffee." Trent said and I nodded.
"Sure."
We went inside their house and it was the first time I stepped into Rain's house. It was cozy and outside, it looked like an average size house but surprisingly, it was huge inside. I scanned the house as Rain's parents guided me to their kitchen.
"If I knew you'll be here, then I shouldn't have packed all the foods to Rain." Estelle said while making coffee and Trent sat on a seat also motioning his hand for me to sit.
"Why are you packing foods for Rain?" I said and sat to a chair near Trent.
"Rain went back early because he needs to finish his school papers." Trent said and Estelle nodded. I looked at my hands that were on the table.
No wonder it was so unusual that I couldn't smell him even from a far distance. He wasn't there because he went back so early. Just because of a school work?
He values his school work more than his mate?
"When will he be going back home?" I said and Estelle placed three empty cups on the table.
"Maybe a month or it depends if he's not busy. He didn't even go home during his vacation the last three years." Trent said.
"Why?" I asked and Estelle chuckled.
"We don't know." She said and poured each of the mugs with hot coffee . "I don't know you're a close friends with Rain." She gave me a cup and I accepted it.
"I, uh, yeah. We are."
"That's good to hear." Estelle said and Trent nodded.
I smiled and sipped the hot coffee. I finished the cup as fast as I could and I had a little fun talking with Rain's parents. It was the first time in a long time that I talked that long to someone older than me. Rain grew in a nice home and family and knowing that made me feel relieved.
I left after finishing that cup and they sent me both to the front door.
"Hope you'll come back, Zach. I kinda missed my Rain." Estelle said.
"Yeah, please do come back if you have time. You can stop by here if you're having your early jog." Trent said and I nodded.
"Thank you so much for inviting me in and for the coffee. I will definitely come back." I said and they smiled at me.
I walked back home while thinking about Rain. He left without saying something to me. I felt like he should be telling me because we were mates! We were supposed to be together and not far from each other!
I went inside the pack house, kicking the front door open and the first thing I saw was my twin's face. Some say we looked so identical to each other, but my friends says we looked a little bit different and they could tell who's who.
"Why do you look so grumpy?" He asked and I frowned.
I bet he knew about Rain's early disappearance.
"You knew, right?" I said.
"Knew what?" He frowned and I narrowed my eyes at him. He was so faking it.
"I know you knew."
"That you found your mate?" He asked.
"Yeah. Of course, he told you." I said and walked to Jack.
"You're so lucky to have him, don't you know that?" He said and I turned to him and gave him a lopsided grin.
"I'm aware of that." I said and I was surprised when he was wearing a lonely face.
Why was he acting like that?
"Where's dad anyway?" I said switching the topic and he pointed to dad's office at the second floor.
"Thanks." I said and went up the stairs in a hurry, taking two steps at a time. I felt so excited to say what I was thinking when I was walking back there from Rain's house, and I would do anything for dad and daddy to agree.
"Dad!" I screamed the moment I kicked dad's door office open. Dad narrowed his eyes at me as he put his pen down.
I walked towards dad and planted my hands on his table, leaning a little bit closer to him.
"What?" Dad said.
"I want to go to school." I said and dad frowned.
"You are attending school." Dad said in as a matter of fact.
Our school there is not that different from human schools, except for the hard physical training.
"No." I stood straight. "Not this kind of school, I want to go to a human school."
