Chapter 2:SECOND CUP OF COFFEE

1976 Words
R A I N Mom sent me to school when I turned fifteen and let me live with my uncle Kyle, whose mate was a human, auntie Maika. I only turned eighteen three months ago and I hadn't met my mate yet. I just wondered what if my mate was a human or what if my mate and I wouldn't cross paths and I would never have one. I sighed and swung my backpack to my back. I plan on going back home after three straight years of not visiting the pack land. Jack invited me on his eighteenth birthday and he said our friendship would be over if I wouldn't show my face this time. Lucky since his birthday was on Saturday, no class. I looked at my reflection in the mirror above my drawer and checked my hair before I went out of my room. I went downstairs and saw uncle and auntie having their morning coffee. I placed my backpack on the sofa and walked to the kitchen and sat on my place. Auntie gave me a hot cup of coffee and I happily accepted it. "Wesley's still drooling with his pillow?" I asked, talking about their only son, and auntie nodded. "You send our regards to Trent and Estelle and your sister, and you take care. Don't speed up." Uncle said and I nodded. "Okay, uncle." I said and finished my coffee. After saying my goodbyes to them, I drove my motorbike down the road early in the morning and it took me fifty minutes of constant speed drive before I saw the familiar place. The tall trees standing on each side of the road, the cold wind. Nostalgia hit me and I felt excited to see my place again. Does it look the same than before? My mom and dad were waiting for me outside and they throw their arms around me while I was still in the middle of pulling the helmet out of my head. "You've grown taller." Mom said and messed my messy hair. "And more handsome." She added. "I am not. It was still three months the last time you visited me, how could I grow taller?" I said and they chuckled. Well, I can't deny the handsome part. "How are you doing?" Dad said as he threw his arm on the back of my shoulders as we walked inside the house that still looked the same over the years. We were at the same height now unlike before. I used to envy his tall height back when I was a pup. "Great. School's nice and by the way, uncle Kyle and aunt Maika sends their regards to you guys." I said. "How are they doing?" Mom said and snatched the helmet from my hand, placing it on the counter while dad walked into the kitchen. "They're doing just fine." I said and throw my backpack and myself on the sofa, sighing. The living room still looked the same except for a few new items and an additional picture frame of my face togther with the family photos above a drawer. "Must be tired." Dad brought with him a hot cup of I'm guessing coffee and gave it to me. I chuckled as I sat straight and grab the cup. "My second shot. Thanks, dad." I said and took a sip feeling relieved of the warmth. Then, I heard the loud slamming of the door that echoed inside the house. "O, my God! Rain's back!" Kelsey, my younger sister exclaimed and the flapping of her footwear was so loud as she descended the staircase. She just jumped at me and the hot coffee spilled on my pants making me gasp. "I missed you so much!" She said while hugging my neck. "You missed me so much, you wanted to crush my neck with your arms." I said in a chocked voice and she let go. She just laughed loudly. "Have you met your mate there?" She said, excitedly. "Hmm, no." I said. We could recognize our mate when we turn eighteen that was why turning eighteen was one of the most important times in a weres life. I did looked everywhere in the uni but I never felt those signs. "Ah." She muttered. "Well, maybe your mate is here." "I don't know." I said and ruffled her hair. "I'll go and get some sleep." I grabbed my backpack and the cup, on the other hand, dropping it in the kitchen where mom and dad were making breakfast. I went upstairs and the moment I opened my room, I sprint to my bed and jumped leaving my backpack on the floor. Everything was the same as the way I left it or maybe I didn't notice if mom or anyone of them moved my things since it has been years. I was just glad that no spiders were renting my room in the meantime. It was clean and dust free and never felt so good to come back home. I woke up when I felt hot and realized I didn't remove my jacket and didn't turn on the AC. It was still eight forty in the morning and I decided to take a bath. I couldn't wait to see my friends, especially Jack, and check the pack for changes . I was descending the stairs after taking a warm bath when I heard mom calling me from the kitchen. She was tying a blue ribbon on a box securing it. "What's that?" I asked even though I know what it was. I could smell the rich chocolate scent inside it. A chocolate cake. Mom was really good when it comes to baking pastries. She was the best at it. "A cake for Jack and Zach." It has been a while since I last heard Zach's name. I even forgot that Jack has a twin and he was celebrating the birthday with him. I never bothered to fix things with Zach because he was the stubborn that type and he never listens and understands. He treats me as an enemy because he doesn't want seeing me with his twin and that I was too ugly and boring for Jack. Talking back was never my strong point when I was a pup but I hated Zach because he looked at me as of I was inferior to him. Yes, he was the Alpha's son but in the pack, we were taught not to discriminate among the pack members, including omegas who were thr weakest. "Can you please send this to the pack house? Trent went early when I was still baking this." Mom said, tapping the box gently after tying the ribbon. "Okay." I said and walked to the fridge to fetch some water and silently praying that I wouldn't see Zach at the pack house. ** I saw familiar people outside the pack house including dad who was talking with some familiar people and alpha Kurt in the yard. Dad was one of the scouts and seven years ago, he became the scout leader. Dad called me and I hesitantly went to their circle, plus I was with the cake. “Alpha Kurt.” I slightly bowed my head. He smiled at me and I really liked him ever since when I was a pup and also alpha Colin. “Mom baked a cake for Jack.” I said and raised slightly the cake box. “Tell your mom thank you.” Alpha Kurt said and was about to grab the box but I dodged his hands. “I will tell mom, and I’m bringing this one inside.” I said because it would be funny looking at Alpha Kurt bringing a cake box while talking business with his members. “Isn’t he your son, Trent?” Alpha Kurt asked dad and dad proudly said yes. “You’ve grown so much. I remember you when you were still small and adorable. You used to play with my Jack. I heard you left for school.” I chuckled and nodded. “Welcome back home, Rain.” Alpha Kurt said. “Thank you Alpha.” I said and then glance at dad who was smiling. I went inside the pack house and it still looked exactly the same, nothing really changed. I went to the dining area and cooks were busy roaming in the kitchen and I saw some of Zach’s friends at the corner. They were talking to one of the cooks there, so I placed the cake on the long dining table and went out immediately. I just felt like I would be in trouble if they saw me but not that I was afraid of them. I just didn’t want to argue. I walked back to the spacious living room just when I smelt something— like the essence of spring— spicy sweet and it was pulling me up to the staircase just when I saw Jack and he was so surprised to see me that he ran down the stairs. The scent was coming from him and my heart was beating faster every second that passed. I couldn’t even take my eyes away from Jack as he ran down. It wasn’t impossible that he was my mate. Some cases like that exist, if you are so close, there would be a very big possibility that you would be mates because of the bond and strong connection. He’s my mate! Thank the Goddess! “Rain! You’re back!” He exclaimed and crushed me with his hug and I couldn’t be happier. . . not until my eyes landed to the man standing on top of the staircase glaring at us—more like at me. I sucked my breath without me noticing when I met Zach’s turquoise blue eyes. I couldn’t take my eyes away as if Zach’s eyes were magnets. Jack wasn’t the one who smelt like spring in that very hot weather. It was Zach! The mother fvcker! Our eye connection was cut when Jack finished the hug and scanned me. I suddenly felt dizzy and my head was filled with my wolf howling for our mate. “You look manlier.” He said and I cracked a smile. “So are you.” I said and I glance behind him but Zach was gone. Fvck! “You really transformed. Are you really the adorable Rain that I knew? You don’t look adorable anymore. You look so cool.” He touched my hair and I rolled my eyes. I had a spurt growth when I left the pack land and I also build some muscles and never stopped training because I didn't want to be left behind with the pups in the pack while persuing academic studies. Jack also grew taller and manlier too. “Idiot.” I chuckled but inside me was a mess. I could still smell my mate. “Happy birthday.” I said. “Mom baked you a cake—“ I was cut when Jack just hit my ass with his hand making me jumped and yelped in surprise. Jack laughed. “What the hell was that!?” I exclaimed, cupping my ass and turned to glare at Jack who shrugged. “I’m just hungry.” He threw his arm around my shoulders and guided me to the kitchen. “Let’s eat.” He grinned. I was so surprised because Jack never do those kind of things. He was the innocent and quiet one. Did Zach influenced him while I was away? “You look like a pervert.” “Not as pervert as Zach.” He said and I faked a smile when I heard his name. I turned my head at the back thinking of the chance of seeing Zach there standing. What the hell am I thinking!?
