The next morning
Mira stormed her way towards Jason's office. She didn't care that he was having a meeting at the moment. She asked everyone to leave and waited until it was just the two of them.
"What's wrong?" Jason asked her.
His voice was surprisingly gentle which made her almost want to roll her eyes. It didn't have any effect on her anymore. She slammed the papers in her hands on his desk.
They were the divorce papers she had ordered for. She thought a bit of action could get her.her desired result.
"Sign them." She pushed the papers to him and breathed out.
Jason went through them then looked up at her and said, "No."
"No? Ha!" Mira laughed, "You know very well this is a piece of cake for me. I don't even need your approval."
"Mira!" He called, "Why are you doing this?" He stood up from his seat and slowly moved closer to her.
Again, that soft voice he was using to call her name like that made her scoff internally.
"Isn't it obvious? Eli... I feel like something is going on between you two. Do you know she's in love with you? Are you sleeping with her?"
"Of course not!" Jason had a livid expression as he glared at her, "Don't spout nonsense. Eli is my sister!"
"She was adopted" Mira corrected, "And its possible to want to make her your new luna so I'm giving you the freedom you need. Afterall... You don't love me." She added the last part softly and held his gaze.
"No." He answered, "You've always been my luna and the only one I will ever want as my luna."
"Mira." He called wrapping his hands around her waist and forcing her to remain in his arms when she protested, "I know I've been a d**k, I didn't treat you well. Its just... I get confused when I'm stressed out. Being an alpha isn't so easy which explains my behavior. I'm sorry okay?"
He peered into her eyes, searching them as if waiting to see something.
Mira tried to hide her surprise and fear that she felt at that moment when she heard his words. He just repeated thesame words she said to Eli the previous day. It became even more puzzling as she looked into his eyes that seemed to be hiding a smile.
What was he implying?
"That excuse sounds so familiar to me you know?" She smiled and forcefully pulled his hands off her.
"You lied. Why?" He smiled. She knew exactly what he was talking about.
"After the stunt she pulled in the pool. Do you think I'm stupid enough to trust that she was really apologetic? Of course I quickly caught up."
"Eli wouldn't do anything to hurt you. She speaks highly of you every..."
"Ah, yes, I know. She's so nice and innocent and I'm the evil one who tried to kill her and gave myself some cuts then framed her for it." She scoffed, shaking her head, "Jason" She started "I know that you don't love me but we should at least trust and support each other. Its what married couples do. I've tolerated everything long enough but not anymore."
Her eyes glistened with tears she was trying to hold back as she continued, "Its obvious where your heart belong to so I won't hope that you trust me. I'll just hope you understand why I want this divorce."
Jason swallowed looking at her eyes which had tears in it. Tears she refused to let out. He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair.
It seemed as if his earlier assumption of her was not correct. Eli tried to frame her in the pool. Any wise woman in her position wouldn't trust Eli again neither would she show her hostility towards her in front of others considering their relationship. He hadn't thought that deep about it but now it started to make sense. Now he found himself starting to doubt Eli's words. What she said about Mira giving herself the cuts yesterday. It was so puzzling and he didn't know who was lying to him. Anyway, it isn't so important. What's important is to stop her from going through with this divorce. He knew very well how easy it is for her to get the approval of the elders and he would have no choice than to sign the papers.
If he could just coax her and convince her...
"Then let's do that." He spoke softly, "Let's fix it Mira. I can't lose my luna, I can't lose you."
Ahhh... His tone. It was so heart touching.
Mira wanted to laugh but then she was pretending to have tears in her eyes and had to hold her act.
He was saying the truth though. He really couldn't afford to lose her at this moment. She brought in all of the resources to manage this pack. It was just like a major shareholder suddenly retrieving all of his shares at once. The company will take a hit and might even fall.
Mira bit her lips without saying anything. She took back the papers from his desk, "You don't have to sign this. I will meet the council myself." Looking determined, she made to leave but Jason drew her back though, gently.
He sighed and took her hands in his, "Tell me what you want. I will do it for you. Anything. Just... don't do this."
"Anything?" She asked.
It was a shame that Jason missed the twinkle that appeared in her eyes.
"Its not like you'll really do it anyway." She shrugged.
Jason's eyes narrowed, "You're not going to ask me to get rid of Eli. Are you?"
Her face had a serious expression in it as she said, "Its exactly what I want. Send her away back to your parents pack. Anywhere but here or you get her married. I don't care."
"But Eli..."
"That's all I want." Without waiting for him to finish she started to walk towards the door. She paused to look at him, "To you. She might be more important than I am. But I'm sure she can't be more important than our pack." She strolled out after saying that and headed outside.
This was just a test. She needed to know how important Eli is to him and at thesame time, let him know who has the most power.
She breathed in some fresh air and went back inside. To her own office where she started to sort out some files. A sound from her phone startled her and she looked to see that it was her father calling.
She froze. Her hands shook as she tried to take the call.
"I heard you want a divorce from your husband." It was the first thing she heard as she placed the phone to her ear.
That familiar gruff voice.
Tears formed in the corners of her eyes as she heard it. Her father wasn't exactly the type to show how much he cared for her but she loved him. Sadly, in her previous life, he suddenly disappeared. It was so mysterious that she didn't even know where to look until the time she died. She never found him.
As usual, he always knew everything that was happening in her home. She wondered who was feeding him Information.
"Then you also know how he treated me?" She said back quickly sorting out her emotions.
She heard him sigh and knew he must be currently rubbing his belly. The thought made her let out a chuckle. She covered her mouth realizing what she just did.
"You're already doing so much for him. How do you plan to leave all of those?"
"I know what I'm doing dad. Trust me."
There was silence for a while before her dad said "Come home for dinner during the weekend. I need you to meet someone." Then he hung up directly.
Mira stared at the phone in her hands with furrowed brows wondering who her father wanted her to meet. She was curious and yet somewhere in her heart she had a not so good feeling about this.
