"We use to work together." alpha Rick answered making her throw a look at her dad.
"He found your mother, Mira." Her father told her and she nodded.
After that war where her mother had died, her body could not be found anywhere. Everywhere was burnt and she started to wonder if her mother had been burned to ashes too. That was when someone found and delivered her body. She was young then and couldn't remember much.
"Oh. Then I should thank you." She smiled raising the bottle of wine. She poured a glass for him and one for herself and they both drank it in one gulp.
Once again, she found the alpha staring at her intently as if he was trying to see through her and that was disturbing. Not just the alpha, even the beta's gaze was fixed on her that she almost could not continue her act and had to excuse herself for some reason.
She went straight to her old room and took a sigh of relief when she closed the door behind her.
Now, she could sort out her thoughts. The alpha she had been raking her head, thinking of how to meet him was now here, so close to her. She wanted to strike a deal with him but now that she found out they were mates, she didn't know how to go about it.
Hearing the sound of the door made her turn around and there, she was hit by surprise seeing the person standing there.
It was her mate.
"Do you need something?" Sh asked with furrowed brows as he came closer.
Bargain into her room like this? Her father definitely gave him permission which made her start to wonder the reason he invited her here today. What was he panning? Could he have known they were mates?
He got too close that she found herself taking several steps backwards until her back was plastered against the wall. She swallowed when he leaned in, tilted his face and looked at her curiously. His hands trapping her in between.
"Can we stop the game now?" His lips curved upwards as he said this but Mira refused to show any expression on her face.
"I don't know what you're talking about." She said firmly and seriously but couldn't stop her heart from beating faster than usual.
"Are you... Sure about that?" There was this smile in his eyes that strangely gave her a not too good feeling.
Instead of answering his question, she asked him one in return, "I wonder what an alpha like you would be doing in my room at this time. I'm a married woman you know"
"You're mine!"
She saw his eyes flash an alpha red as a growl erupted from him making her flinch. He closed his eyes as if battling with something inside him before opening them again.
"I don't care if you're married or not Mirabel" He raised his hands, using his fingers to trace the sides of her face that was close to her ears giving her tingles. She felt her wolf purr at the skin contact and he smiled knowingly, "You need me, you belong to me and I'll claim you as mine. Soon Mirabel." He added and left leaving her standing there in a daze.
"Wait." She finally snapped out of it and called, just before he reached the door.
"Alpha Rick," She strolled forward, "I don't know what arrangement you had with my father but if you're interested in me... "
She paused seeing how his expression changed. His eyes were filled with something she recognized. Hope.
"Then you better give up now and for the record... I don't belong to anyone." With this, she planned to go out directly but he grabbed her arm. Stopping her.
"If you're planning to reject me, you better do it now. If you don't reject me right now then I won't stop Mirabel. I won't stop until I make you mine."
"There's nothing to reject." Jerking her hands away from him. She left him there.
She sighed internally knowing that he didn't deserve this. In this brand new life she was given, she had no plans on finding her mate but he still came to her. Rejecting him was the right thing to do but somehow she wasn't able to do it and her wolf would definitely go mad if she dares to do that so she stuck to her initial plan. Pretend. Even though it seems like he knew. Hell, he wasn't a daft. He quickly caught on that she was pretending but she just had to stick to it for now.
A smile unknowingly formed on her lips when she remembered the words he said earlier, "I won't stop until I make you mine."
Somehow, she anticipated it. What he would do to fulfill that promise.
"Are you that happy?" She heard her father's voice and almost jumped. She folded her arms and gave him a not too pleased look.
"What were you planning sending him to my room like that."
"Nothing. Did you enjoy the dinner?"
"Well I felt like you set me up." She rolled her eyes at him.
"Mhmm... Its about time you leave that husband of yours. Don't you think?"
Her eyes widened as she stared at her father in surprise. She never thought he would suggest that. Wasn't he against the divorce just the other day?
"Why?" She asked.
"Because he's not treating you well of course. He went back on his words and I won't just let it slide!"
Just as she was starting to get emotional and all. She heard him say, "Then you can marry alpha Rick. He has everything a woman wants and also, he can protect you better."
She sighed and shook her head then saw Casper approaching them.
"Luna." The beta bowed "We'll be leaving now.
"Its Luna Mirabel." She corrected but he just blinked at her looking clueless but she knew it was an act.
"We should go see them off." Her father suggested and they all went outside.
"Its nice having this dinner with you alpha Greene." Rick shook her father's hands when they finally reached him and thanked him before going inside his car.
Thinking about something, Mira rushed forward and stopped the car from moving, "I'll go with you." She announced and directly got in without waiting for him to agree. She almost forgot her mission. She saw her father smiling from the side and shook her head again as the car drove off. She was sitting right next to the alpha while the beta sat in front with the driver.
"You seem to change your mind easily."
"I don't think that's what you should be worried about though." She looked at him seriously, "The river pack. Don't go there."
Rick furrowed his brows, hearing her words. Even Casper turned to look at her, "How did you know we were going there?"
"Does it matter?" She shrugged her shoulders, "The important thing is for you not to go. That pack is not so simple. You should look into them before doing anything or bad things will happen."
"And why are you telling me this?" The alpha asked. Looking at her curiously.
