Sponge

Skye POV I was not one that performed well under pressure all the time, although I was good at fighting and staying safe for the most part in dangerous situations. But when something involved the use of my powers, I had a tendency to freeze. Right now, I feel like I have a lot riding on my shoulders, and it is up to me to perform perfectly. Failure is not an option. I walked back to the training gym with Chaos since it was an open area. The sound of my footsteps echoed in the empty space, adding to the weight of my thoughts. Chaos remained silent, his presence comforting yet uncertain. I don't think he even knew what to say to me right now. I paced the room, the coolness of the floor beneath my bare feet grounding me. I tried to think, to tap into that power that seemed elusive at the moment. With Colson, I felt it when I knew Chaos was in danger. With my parents, I felt it after waking up in the comfort of Chaos's arms after completing our bond. But to be honest, I had the slightest clue on how to connect with it. And not just that, I had to bring five people here now. Chaos walked over to me and put his hands on my shoulders, his touch warm and reassuring. "Look at me, Skye," he said, his eyes meeting mine. He was letting me read his thoughts, letting me know that he was worried about me but wanted to support me in any way that he could. I liked how at times now he simply communicated with me through our contact. It was a connection that went beyond words. Blade, too, was getting used to speaking to me through touch, as well as talking with NYX. "Mate can help us, Skye. Now that the bond is complete, have him focus with you," Nyx insisted. Her voice echoed in my mind, her concern palpable. "How do I do that when he does not even know any of the individuals I want to bring here?" I asked her, my mind racing to find a solution. "Tell him about them then. Calm down and sit on the training mat," she insisted, her voice soothing yet firm. I took a deep breath. I sat down on the worn-out training mat, its texture rough against my palms. "Nyx thinks you can help me control and connect with my power," I said to Chaos, my voice steady. "Let me know what I can do," he said, his voice filled with support. I patted the soft mat next to me, motioning for Chaos to sit. "Sit with me," I said, my voice gentle. "I need to bring my grandparents," I began, my words flowing smoothly. "Sage, who is a Vampire phoenix hybrid, and her mates Zane, who is a direwolf, and Alex, who is a werewolf. And then I also need to bring my aunt Kali, who is a tri breed werewolf, vampire, and phoenix, and her mate Barys, who is the fire dragon king and also the fire crystal dragon." I explained the intricate family dynamics to Chaos, who listened intently. "Your family needs a guidebook to all the power and mixes they are," Chaos remarked, a playful smile dancing on his lips. I chuckled in agreement. "Yeah, I guess they do, especially my brothers with their Vampire, Direwolf, Phoenix, Fae, and Dragon heritage." Chaos pondered for a moment, his eyes sparkling with curiosity. "What happens if their mate is a completely different species? Soon, a pup in your family may be a mix of all species in existence." His words sparked a sense of wonder in me, and our conversation provided a soothing balm for my restless mind. "All of my family members are strong fighters," I shared, a sense of pride evident in my voice. "Even Alex, who is simply a werewolf. You would think he has an Alpha wolf, but he doesn't. He used to be my grandfather Zane's Beta when they lived in a pack. But they both left to help my grandmother reclaim the Kingdom. She's not only a vampire but also the last of the pureblood royalty." Chaos nodded, understanding the significance. "So it would seem most of us have a royal lineage then," he pointed out. I smiled, acknowledging the absurdity of it all. "Yes, we do. Kinda crazy, right?" As I spoke, I felt a familiar spark of power coursing through me. It was a sign that our connection was working. Taking Chaos's hand, I guided him gently. "I need you to close your eyes with me," I instructed softly. I could feel the warmth of his hand in mine, the connection strengthening. "I will share some memories of my family, and then I need you to focus on those memories with me. Together, we will call them to join us here." Chaos complied, closing his eyes, and I closed mine too. The tingling sensation on my horn intensified, amplifying the energy in the air. Through our mind link, I began sharing images of my family, one after the other, like a vivid slideshow. It was exhilarating to watch the memories unfold in my mind, and as I focused on them, I called out to my family. A rush of power surged through me, but it wasn't just mine. Chaos's energy merged with mine, creating an incredibly strong force. "Chaos is a sponge," Nyx's voice echoed in my mind, momentarily confusing me. "I don't understand," I replied, seeking clarification from her. "He absorbs power, Skye," she whispered in my mind, her voice filled with a gentle urgency. "He does not steal it, but when he touches another, like you, he temporarily gains their abilities. And I am sure there is much more to him. But I can sense him taking on our power, Skye. Open your eyes and look at our mate. Our star is shining on his head right now." I followed her instructions and opened my eyes, and there it was, a radiant star glowing on Chaos's head. It meant he could summon my family too. Overwhelmed with emotion, I closed my eyes again and focused intensely. Slowly, I felt the power within me break free. As I opened my eyes, I watched in awe as the power not only flowed out of me but also from Chaos, bathing the room in a magical light that sparkled. As the light faded, one by one, my family materialized before us. Tears of joy streamed down my face. "We did it," I exclaimed, turning to look at Chaos. I would explain everything that had happened to him once we had settled everyone in. My grandparents Sage, Zane, and Alex, along with Kali and Barys, stood before me, their expressions stunned. Finally, Kali reacted, rushing over to embrace me, careful not to touch my skin. "I assume you're the one who brought us all here," Barys said, stepping closer. "Yes, with the help of my mate," I replied, beaming at Chaos. "Chaos, this is my family." I introduced him to each member individually, the mention of him being my mate automatically sparking excitement among them. "Well, look at that," Colson's voice rang out from the doorway. "You've got the original furball and the fire lizard here." "So this is where you disappeared to. I was starting to enjoy the peace," my grandmother Sage said, eyeing Colson. It always felt strange to call her grandmother since none of us aged. Soon, my parents, Aria, and Feather joined us, filling the room with chatter as everyone caught up. They were all eager to speak with Chaos and get to know him. Some even expressed their desire to spar with him after my father bragged about his skills. "How are you holding up? This trip of yours has really spiraled into something else, hasn't it?" Barys asked me, taking a moment to speak privately. "Yeah, I'm sorry I had to pull you all into this," I confessed, feeling a mix of gratitude and guilt. "We are family, Skye, no matter what. We will always stand by each other," Barys said. "As the Fire Dragon King, this realm, even if I no longer reside in it, is still very much my home," Barys continued, his voice resonating with authority. "As a king, it is my duty to protect this land. And now, we have a duty to protect the fae in the great fae kingdom with Jade." "We have worked hard to finally create some peace in this realm, and we can't allow anything to destroy it," Barys declared.. "I am honored you brought me here to fight. Let's get you and Chaos to that magical kingdom of yours and allow the king of all to stand once again." My mind swirled with a mix of confusion and curiosity. I turned to Barys, my voice hesitant. "Did you know about Chaos?" "No, I did not know any of his kind still lived," Barys admitted. "But I did know of his kind. I never met any, but locked away in this very kingdom, there are some documents on a powerful Lycan species. They were meant to rule over all, a species that was special. They were never greedy, nor did they use their power to destroy others. They simply maintained peace amongst many." "They held great power, though I don't think they ever really used it. They just protected it," Barys continued. "Yet, in the documents, I believe they predicted a danger that may need it. It has been a long time since I have looked over the documents, but I will bring them out so we can all look over them, especially Chaos." gratitude swelled within me, a warmth spreading through my chest. "Thank you," I replied softly, my voice filled with appreciation. As the others began to leave the gym, a sense of solitude descended upon me and Chaos. I turned to Chaos, a hint of apology in my voice. "Sorry, I know my family can be overwhelming." Chaos chuckled, the sound rumbling in the stillness of the room. "No need to apologize. I am looking forward to getting to know all of them better. And I overheard your conversation with your uncle. I am interested to see those documents." "Chaos, there was one more thing I wanted to tell you while we are alone," I said. "I already know what you are going to say," he replied softly, the sound of his voice echoing in the empty gym. "But I waited for us to be alone as well. Blade felt it too. We took on your power, and I can still feel its lingering presence within me. Not only that, but I felt everyone's emotions in the room. It was overwhelming for a moment, and now I have a glimpse of what you constantly have to deal with. Your power is truly amazing, Skye, but I can understand how draining it must be. Just know that I will always be here to help you." "So, then you understand. You can take on anyone's powers simply by touching them and focusing. That means you could use my mother's ice power, my father's fire, and so much more," I explained. He nodded again, his eyes filled with a mix of excitement and caution. "Yes, I understand. But I do believe it is something we should keep to ourselves for now, especially since I am still learning," he replied. I nodded in agreement. With everyone gathered here now we were a formidable force, but a new worry crept into my mind. Where did this new dragon come from, and what was it capable of? Was it the only being from a different realm, or would we have to face an entire army of unknown enemies? The road ahead seemed daunting, filled with challenges we had yet to face. But I knew, deep in my heart, that as long as we stood together, we would emerge victorious and prove our strength to this realm and beyond.
