The Marriage Contract

Chapter 5

" So how's the new boss doing?!", someone said interrupting Lev in his thoughts. 

He looked up and saw his best friend Stephan  in front of his office with a big smile on his face.

" Hey there!", he said smiling getting up from his desk.

 The two friends hugged each other and they sat down on the leather sofa in his office  close to the windows which  overlooked the city below.

" Welcome back home . When did you arrive ?!", Lev asked his best  friend .

"Yesterday  , was too tired to even called ,slept the whole day!", Stephan answered smiling. 

" So how's life as a captain?", Lev asked his friend as he grabbed a bottle of water from the table and offered it to Stephan.

 Someone opened the door to his office and interrupted their conversation.In walked his secretary with a cup of coffee in one hand and a bag in another. She was a bit surprised to see that he was already there. Lev checked his watch it was 7 in the morning.

" Sorry Sir , I didn't know you were here . I will just leave my bag and give you your privacy", Sophia said as she went to her desk and put her belongings there

 She  noticed that her boss had checked his watch when she walked in.

" Great now I have to wander around until his guest leaves , I will go see Mr.Arkadi. I need to speak to someone about my leave, I hope he has arrived ", she said to herself as she quickly left the office . 

She did not even look at the two men  who were following her every move.

"Wow! Who is that brother!?",Stephan said  excitedly as soon as Sophia closed the door.

" My new personal assistant , Sophia I think is her name", Lev answered with a disinterested tone .

" Well , something exciting to come to the office to!", Stephan said smirking at his friend .

" No time for this ! The old man is depending on me and my dad to keep his legend going. These sort of distractions can only lead to chaos! Plus she is not my type!", Lev said getting up and moved closer to the window looking outside .

His friend joined him ,they talked for a few minutes more and after making plans to meet up after work, Stephan left.

Stephan and Lev grew up together, they went to the same school until University when they parted ways. Lev studied law and Stephan went to aviation school.They had a relationship that was more like brothers than only friends. 

Lev stood there looking down at the cars on the busy street , his thoughts went back to what he was thinking about earlier before Stephan  interrupted him. 

He couldn't believed his eyes when he saw her standing up in the conference room. Of all people she had to be his personal assistant . 

  She was highly recommended by Mrs. May who described her as the best the company has. He had read her resume , she had even started her law degree back in UK and he wondered why she abandoned her studies to come to Russia.

 "Probably following a man here!", Lev said thinking about the way she behaved that night.

 He couldn't believe he had spent the night with a complete stranger , when he had woken up the next day ,next to a blonde woman that he had never met before, he was hoping never to see her again. Lev had  wished that the mysterious blonde worked for the other law firm which was hosting  their party in the same venue as Lexis Law firm.

 He remembered how he had hurried out of the room hoping that she didn't wake up to see his face . She looked so beautiful laying  there on the bed , and he had wondered how many times she had done that with other men.

 In the first place .. why did I even attend that party?, Lev asked himself as he ran a hand through his hair . 

 Lev tried to push those memories out of his head, they had a great night and that all it was, what everyone called a one night stand. 

 His secretary walked back in the office and smiled at him as she took her seat , only a glass window separated them , he didn't want to put a door with his assistant's office so that he can keep an eye on what she was doing at all time. He came here to work and expected her to do the same. 

 " Mr. Lev", Lev heard her called his name .

 He turned around and looked at her, she smiled sweetly at him and her eyes brightened making her even more beautiful. 

 " Yes!", he said coldly as she looked at him her smile gone from her face, she was taken aback by his reaction. 

 " Sorry Sir, I just wanted to let  you known that , I will be going on leave for one week  in a month time. I had already planned it before ..." , Sophia was saying when he interrupted her and asked her for the letter that she had in her hand .

" Have they got someone else who will replace you?", He asked still with a very cold tone.

Sophia was scared to say yes , so she nodded.

" I asked you a question, can you please answer?", he said almost shouting.

" Yes Sir they did!", Sophia said and she was getting upset by his reaction.

 That's not the way to speak to others !,  She said to herself . 

" Well What are you waiting for , your leave starts in a month , now get back to work!", Lev ordered her and she looked at him fuming with anger inside , she took a deep breath and turned around.

" i***t!", she muttered softly.

" Did you say something Miss Carson!?", Sophia heard Lev asked her.

She froze and slowly turned around hoping that he didn't hear what she said .

" No Sir”,  she said her voice breaking up as she cleared her throat.

" Good then!", he said and told her to get back to work by pointing towards her desk.

She walked to her desk wishing there was a door to block the view as she wanted to kick herself ! He almost caught her insulting him and she knew that if he continued with that egotistical behavior she will probably explode !

The first month in her new post went by fast, and it  was full of chaos ! Her new boss had her running around the office like a mad person  . Going to meetings after meetings ,some even till late at night and she had to take a  taxi home . Lev never offered for the company's car to take her home. She found herself most of the time standing outside in the cold  late at night waiting for a taxi , hoping the driver is decent enough to take her home without trying anything else. Most nights she would  be eating take outs and crawling into bed her whole  body exhausted . She had to arrive at the office at 6.30 in the morning. She had been ignoring her breakfast , she would  only grab a cup of  coffee in the mornings and then straight to her office  to  work. She was so happy when it was finally Friday the last day of the month and she could finally take her week off  . Sophia had already called her aunt and her cousin telling them to pack up for the two days of relaxation at the Bliss Spa . They were so excited to see each other and spent some quality time together. 

On Saturday she woke up late , she stayed in bed thinking about her week with Mr. Lev. He was slowly making her want to quit her job. The loads of work had doubled and she couldn't keep up with a lot of things , and that infuriated her boss and he looked as if he was always in a bad mood.

 " Gosh! If I have to put up with this for a whole year , I will have to check myself inside an asylum!", Sophia said as she got out of bed.

 Her phone beeped indicating that she had received a message, she looked at her phone on her bed side table and decided to have her bath then she will check who it was from.

 As she walked out of her bathroom , she wrapped put a towel around her wet hair and sat on the edge of her bed , she picked up the phone and read the message .

 " We need you at the office! And you better hurry ! William", 

 " What?!" , Sophia said  , she couldn't believe it!

 Her day off and now she had to run to the office .

 " This better be a matter of life or death! Because today I am not going to let that i***t ruin the beginning of my holiday!", Sophia said angrily as she hurried to get dressed.
