The Marriage Contract

Chapter 6

Sophia grabbed a pair of jeans and a pink T-shirt and put them on. She quickly dried her hair and put it up in a ponytail.She left her apartment and made her way downstairs. Her tummy grumbling and she was upset because today she promised herself that she will treat her body with a little bit of respect by eating a very good breakfast. But unfortunately Mr. Lev decided to punish her again today by making her skip the most important meal of the day.

She was lucky that she got a taxi within seconds that she reached the roadside.Sophia had her driving license but since the accident of her parents she refused to get behind the wheel of a car. The tragic incident had left a deep wound in her heart which till today had not been able to heal.

The taxi pulled up outside the building and she hurried inside. She greeted the security downstairs and made her way to the elevator. 

" William better have a good reason to ask me to come here today!", Sophia said getting out of the elevator and walking towards her  office.

She was surprised that no  one was there and she noticed  a bright yellow sticky note  on her desk .

" In the conference room", she read  it out loud.

She walked towards the conference room and opened the door  ,

" William this....", Sophia started to say but then froze when she saw her boss , William and two other men seating in the conference room all dressed up as if it was a normal working day. She looked down at her outfit and she felt awkward as her face turned red from embarrassment.

" Good morning Mr. Lev , Good morning everyone. Excuse me", she said as she turned around and closed the door behind her and went back to her boss's office.

Sophia  sat down at her desk holding back the tears, she saw the look on her boss’s face she was surely in trouble with Mr. Ivansky  . She heard  the door  to the office opening and she quickly wiped her eyes , she was glad  that she hadn't  put on  any mascara.

" Sophia what's wrong with you!?", William asked her .

" Well you tell me? I didn't know we will be having clients over?!", Sophia said.

" You didn't get my text?", William asked feeling sorry for her .

" You only told me to come to the office!", Sophia said with an angry tone. 

Checking her messages one more time and then she saw the other message from William saying to dress appropriately.

" Oh! I didn't see the other one, sorry William for shouting at you. I think it has been the whole week ! I have been so exhausted my brain is not functioning accordingly!", Sophia said trying to smile.

Lev stood there close to the door and listened to Sophia talking . She had disappointed him when she had burst in the conference room like that earlier and he was extremely upset with her. If she couldn't handle the pressure then she better leave! Lev thought as he walked in his office.

" Well Miss Carson, if you can't deal with the pressure here so you better leave!", Lev told her in a harsh tone.

 Sophia was  shocked to see him standing there and hearing those  words from him got her lost for words. 

She looked at William who seemed embarrassed to be there.

" Sir ... I just...", Sophia tried to explain but the words couldn't come out. She had such a big lump in her throat plus she was feeling nauseous, she had a feeling that her blood pressure had dropped. 

" Miss Carson , I do not want to hear any excuses! After your week off come see me with your letter of resignation!", Lev said coldly.

Sophia looked at him and couldn't believe her ears , instead of listening to her he just fired  her! she thought as she gathered her strength to stand up. She didn't want to argue with him , she couldn't win in a battle of words against a cold hearted person like that man standing in front of her!

She wanted to leave as fast as she could and she will surely hand him her resignation, she had already made up her mind. 

Sophia grabbed her bag and got up from the chair, the whole room started to spin but she couldn't be bothered about that she was praying for enough strength to get away from that ruthless man.

As she walked in front of her desk she felt as if her body became numb . Sophia tried to moved but she felt her body falling and she blacked out.

Lev stood there in shock when he saw Sophia in William's arms. Luckily he was closed to her that she did not hit the ground! 

" Sophia!", William said and picked her up and carried her to the sofa . 

" Sir what do we do?She doesn't look well!",William asked worryingly looking at Sophia's pale face.

" Lets take her to the hospital!", Lev suggested as William picked Sophia up and he carried her to the elevator.

On the way down Sophia slowly came around and she opened her eyes. She looked at William and smiled weakly, then she looked at Lev and her smile faded away and she shut her eyes again. She asked William to put her down but he refused.

Lev didn't like the way she had looked at him , he could see the hatred in her eyes.

Have you achieved what you wanted? Wasn’t that your plan , to torture her, make her work like a slave , disrespect her so that she would leave? Wasn’t that hate you saw in her eyes ?, Lev said to himself and then he looked at William as the elevator opened in the basement into the parking area. 

" William can you take her to the hospital! I have to attend to something else", Lev said .

William said he will take Sophia straight to the hospital. One final glance at Sophia , Lev walked away , got in his car and  drove off. He looked in the rear view mirror as William put Sophia back on her feet. She was still holding on to him and smiling at William .

" That's the sort of woman she is!", he said softly . 

" I'm ok Will,I just need a good breakfast!", Sophia said smiling.

" Then my treat ,at the café across the street”, William said smiling back at her.

" It's ok...", Sophia said but William interrupted her.

" I will not  take No for an answer! Now let's go!", William said offering his arm for her to hold on to.Sophia smiled taking his arm and they walked across the street to the café.

Lev had forgotten an important file upstairs, he had parked in front of the building and ran quickly upstairs to retrieve it.

As he came back outside he saw Sophia and William walking towards the café talking and she was laughing at whatever he was saying as she held on to his arm.

" Fast recovery!", Lev said sarcastically as he got in his car and drove off.
