The Marriage Contract

Chapter 4

" Sophia, they mentioned your name !", Alexandrine said in a whisper and gave her left arm a nudge.

Sophia was too busy dreaming about the scholarship that she did not hear anything, she got back to reality when she felt the nudge on her arm. 

" My name?",  she said looking around the room wondering why her name was being mentioned . She saw Mrs. May looking at her and she shyly smiled as Mrs. May who asked her to stand up.

" Like I was saying due to the re shuffling of some post , Miss Carson from my department and Mr. Fred", Mrs May said and smiled at William who stood up .

" Those two individuals have shown excellent working capabilities and therefore they will now move to the department that Mr. Lev will be occupying as from next week", Mrs May said in a serious voice .

Sophia quickly looked at Alexandrine who had a big smile on her face as if it was her who had to work with the grandson of Mr. Ivansky.

I thought I was going to be offered the scholarship!,  Sophia said to herself feeling disappointed. She quickly erased that frown from her face and put on her smile as she looked at Lev.

He seems liked a ruthless person!, Sophia thought as she looked at Lev's face.

 She was asked to leave the room with her new working colleague and they followed a middle age woman who introduced herself as Mrs. Ivanov and to Sophia she looked like a very grumpy woman .

They were taken to another floor and she was presented to her new office and to her surprise she was to work directly in the office of Mr.Lev .

 "What?! I don't have my own office, anymore !", she said muttering under her breath but it was loud enough for Mrs. Ivanov to hear who sent her a look that could have melted an iceberg!

 Sophia shyly looked around the room to avoid looking at Mrs. Ivanov . To make her more upset she saw Williams office , which actually have a door !

  That’s what I called Privacy!", she thought.

 Oh my! Now I wonder if I will be able to take that most deserving holiday!,  Sophia thought and the idea that she might not be able to take her leave,  only made  her more upset that she wanted to cry. They made their way back to their old floor to pack their belongings and to transfer everything upstairs , on her way to her office she caught a glimpse of Lev in the conference room through the glass windows.He had his hands in his pockets and was listening attentively to what the other lawyers were saying and his face was emotionless. He didn't even smile he was simply nodding his head at whatever that lawyer was saying . 

Sophia stood there as she took some water from the water dispenser.She looked at all those lawyers inside the conference room and started daydreaming about the day she will be in there as well or in her own firm talking with her associates.. She had painted the perfect image in her head. She will cut her long blonde hair into a short  bob, her dress will be branded as well as her bag. She will be wearing spectacles from the best brands and all of the other lawyers will be envious of her great achievements.

" Thank you , oh thank you", she whispered to herself as she day dreamed about the journalists lining up to interview her after her winning a big case.

"Excuse me Miss ,Are you ok?", Sophia heard someone saying close to her face .

She opened her eyes still smiling and saw a lady standing in front of her , she was taken aback and dropped her paper cup of water. At the same time the meeting had finished and all the lawyers were walking out probably they were all looking at her weirdly, Sophia thought as her face turned red from embarrassment!

She saw Lev and another guy looking in her direction and her new boss shook his head in disapproval and walked away.

Oh damn! He will probably think I am crazy or something!,  Sophia though as she bent and picked up her paper cup and put it in the waste container.

" Well that's his problem, I am allow to dream !", Sophia said to herself walking to her old office to gather her things.

As she got closer to the office she heard clapping and she walked in to hear someone said " Congratulations Lucy!".

She was curious to know what was going on and she asked another coworker.

" Lucy got the first scholarship!", her coworker said and Sophia nearly passed out but found it deep inside to remain standing and walked to her office . She entered her office and after closing the door she stood there leaning against the door as tears rolled down her cheeks.

She couldn't believe that of all people Lucy will receive such a privilege! 

"I had worked hard  all of these years and Lucy just spent her time complaining about the work loads and she got the biggest prize!", Sophia whispered as anger took over her body. She wanted to punch at the door but a knocked on there made her change her mind, instead she walked quickly and sat down in her chair fixed her sad face and asked the person on the other side to come in.

In walked her worst nightmare, Lucy!

" Well Sophia , you are  the only one who has not congratulated me yet!", Lucy said sarcastically.

" Well congratulations!", Sophia said pulling her best smile.

" Is there anything else that you need?", Sophia said    looking at Lucy who had a smile on her face.

" I know this was one of your dream to finish your studies, but well I will tell you about it!", Lucy said as she waved goodbye to Sophia and laughed as she walked out of the office closing the door behind her.

" Damn you!", Sophia said and threw a notebook at the door.

She got up and started to put away her belongings when she saw the leaflet for the Spa .

She stared at the leaflet and walked out of her office. She  definitely needed that break and she will talk to Mrs. May about her leave. 

She was disappointed when her old boss told her that she will have to discuss this directly with "Mr.Lev" as she could no longer give her any orders. 

Just Great!!, Sophia thought as she left Mrs.May's office .

Some helpers had come to take her things to her new office , she took the time to go speak  to Alexandrine.

" What?!", Alexandrine said smiling when her friend told her she will be sitting in Mr.Lev's office.

" What is so funny!?"Sophia said annoyed at her friend.

" I don't have any privacy anymore and me taken order from  a man!Not any man.. the grandson of the big boss!!, Sophia said putting on a miserable face.

"You will get use to it!", Alexandrine said trying to console her friend.

" No more gossiping! I can't see myself gossiping with William!", Sophia said feeling more miserable.

" Ha! I'm sorry but that is funny!", Alexandrine said laughing.

" Gosh and to add it all up , Lucy got the scholarship!", Sophia said with a hint of anger in her voice.

" Please lets don't speak about that! Now run along before Mrs. May fires her last bullets at you!", Alexandrine said smiling.

" Well , see you after work", Sophia said getting up from the chair. 

She waved goodbye to her friend and looked around her old office reminiscing about the past three years that she had been working there . The place where she had given all of her time and was really dedicated to her job. Even if she had seen the scholarship gone to someone who didn’t deserved it , she would still work hard to prove to her boss that she deserves that scholarship!

As for now I will  have  to work harder since   .. I could  surely feel that I  will be going to hell as from next week!, She thought as the elevator door closed making its way up.
