The Marriage Contract

Chapter 7

" I am sorry you had to witness all of that... back at the office", Sophia said to William ,as she stirred the sugar lump in her coffee. 

" Will you leave?", William asked her .

" After the way he treated me , no way I am going back to that office!", Sophia answered with a serious tone.

" I think he was upset and maybe he will reconsider after he calms down", William said trying to persuade her not to resign from her job.

" William , I can't be in the same place with that man! Period!", Sophia said as she took a sip of her coffee. 

The coffee tasted weird and she wanted to throw up , she pushed the coffee aside as she took deep breaths hoping the urge to throw up will go away.

William looked at her and he asked her if she was feeling sick.

" I think I better leave. Thank you so much for the coffee", Sophia said smiling at William.

" Well you barely touched it, except to stir the sugar in there for over two minutes!", William said and they both laughed.

" I'll take you home, no way you will take a taxi in your condition", William said and Sophia didn't refuse because she was still feeling nauseous.

The drive to her apartment was very quiet. She kept thinking about the way her boss reacted towards her today. How he had thrown her out of the company without realizing how she had worked so hard for his company! She didn't want to think about it anymore , she didn't want to get a headache with the upset stomach she had already . 

Sophia directed William to her apartment. She lived in a quiet neighborhood, in a one bedroom apartment which was sufficient for her. She moved there when she broke up with her ex boyfriend and made sure to find one that had enough space for only one person . She earned enough to cover her rent and her other necessities but now if she doesn't find another job she would have to move back to her aunt's house which was further into the country side.

Sophia waved goodbye to William as she made her way upstairs glad that she was on the first floor . She opened the door to her apartment and went straight to bed . She needed to sleep this off , hoping that when she wakes up she will feel better . 

Sophia slept for nearly three hours, she woke up feeling better and refreshed.After having something to eat , she started to pack her bag for her trip.

She will be meeting her aunt and cousin at the spa and she was excited about seeing them after such a long time. She had been so busy with work that visiting her aunt was impossible . She will call her every week but she hadn't been able to go spend some times in the countryside at her aunt's  house . 

" Well if I don't get a job within a month , I will have to move there for a while", Sophia said quietly as  her thought went back to this morning.

" He is the biggest i***t , I have ever met!", Sophia said to herself.

She promised herself that for the next two days she will not bother herself with the office or the people working there , specially her boss.

She called Alexandrine to tell her what happened, her friend felt bad for her specially since the firm was the best place for them to gain enough knowledge about something they were both passionate about. Alexandrine tried to convince her to speak with  her boss but Sophia had clearly made up her mind!

" Sophia, you are angry now , in two days we will have this conversation again ok!", Alexandrine said over the phone to Sophia.

" Alex , Im not going back there! I will go back there just to hand in my resignation letter that's it!", Sophia said with a serious tone.

" Well,like I said we will speak about this some other time ok!", Alexandrine said .

They spoke about her trip and Alexandrine wished her a great holiday before they hung up.

" Time to get away from here!", Sophia said as she walked  into the bathroom. 

Lev walked in the pub and saw Stephan waving at him by the bar. He walked straight to the bar and hugged his friend. 

" Great to be back!", Stephan said as they sat down . 

" Well for how long? You are always on the move!", Lev said laughing.

Stephan called the barmaid and ordered two drinks , 

" The usual right?", Stephan asked his friend.

" Yeah!", Lev said with a smile as he checked his phone which was ringing.

" Two dry martinis", Stephan ordered the drinks and then looked at his friend who was just staring at his phone which kept vibrating.He checked the phone screen and the caller ID indicated why Lev was not answering.

" Why is she still bothering you?!", Stephan asked as Lev put his phone back in his pocket.

" I don't want to talk about her", Lev said taking his drink from the bar. 

He took a sip then gave the barmaid a thumbs up and she smiled shyly as she walked to the other customers .

" Well looks like she has things that she needs to talk to you about", Stephan said looking at his best friend with a serious look on his face.

" Alissa! Hmm, she  thinks she can do whatever she wants with me!", Lev answered.

Stephan could feel the anger in his voice so he decided not to press on the subject of Alissa.

" Let's change the subject! How's work so far?", Stephan asked.

" Well , been busy . We have to maintain our good name!", Lev answered with a smile . 

" And the hot blonde?", Stephan asked with a smirk.

" Her... I fired her today!", Lev said coldly.

" What?!Why?!", Stephan asked curiously.

Lev told him what had  happened  at the office and left out the details that he knew her personal assistant from before and that they had a one night stand.When he finished talking , Stephan looked at his friend and said,

" Well my friend though I do understand your point but I think you were too harsh on her! Is it me or it looks like you have something personal against that young lady?", Stephan asked looking at his friend frowning.

" What are you on about? I just don't like people who spend their time whining!", Lev said trying to avoid the question that Stephan asked.

His friend knew him too well but he didn't what to tell him about his one night with Sophia, not yet.

 Could it be that he is right? Was I a little bit to harsh on her? Her face was pale and she was shocked when I fired her? Maybe she just wanted some extra attentions!,  Lev said to himself , thinking back about when Sophia passed out.

" You should definitely reconsider your decision, you were angry and was not thinking rationally !", Stephan advised  him patting him on his back. 

They downed their drink and ordered another one .

At the back of his mind Lev thought about Sophia , he knew he  was wrong and he will need to amend his action.

I will never say sorry , I will just tell her she can keep her job, Lev said to himself.
