First wife ************ The day was as clear as ever, barely windy, as birds flew and perched against trees of all heights. Ellen sat by the wooden stog chair, her eyes closed in relaxation, her legs laced ahead in front of Razia, who knelt messaging her foot, while Fina sat not too far across, sorting out her clothes carelessly, not minding how scattered they were because the witch would have it cleaned up at the end of the day. A loud knock was heard against their door, making Elen open her eyes slowly. The knock came again, and Elen's face shot at Razia. "Go get the door" "Yes mother" Replied Razia, who quickly got up and made it to the door, opening it to reveal a man dressed uniformly standing in front of her. He looked somehow old and had wrinkles arched at each side of his eyes. From his uniform, one would say that maybe he worked for a noble or maybe wealthy family. "Good morning milady" He greeted me with a broad smile across his lips, making the wrinkles beside his eyes reveal even more. "Good morning, sir" Her small voice replied, her lips reciprocating his smile. "I'm a royal messenger from the castle, and I was sent to deliver an invitation to the ball." He resighted, but Before Razia could form words, she felt herself being pushed to the side. Fina, who heard the word *royal messenger, didn't care whether her clothes were thrown to the floor as she quickly dashed to the door, pushing Razia out of the way, not caring if she fell or not. "Royal messenger?" She asked with an inquisitive look, wanting to know what someone from the castle was doing here. "Yes, milady. I was sent to deliver an invitation concerning the royal ball to..." "Royal ball!!!" Fina screamed almost immediately, interrupting the man from talking. "Yes milady" He replied while passing a short scroll, which she wasted no time in receiving. "Have a nice day, milady." She barely heard what the man said as her eyes were glued to the scroll. About yesterday, invites were distributed to a few of the people in the village, and she struggled, pushed, kicked, and even dragged, if not plucked, people's hair out just to get to the front of the crowd of people who were also trying to struggle their way through, but unfortunately,by the time she had gotten to the front of the crowd, the invites were already distributed, and nothing was left for the unlucky ones who were behind the line. Throughout yesterday, her mood had been sour and bitter, all mixed, and unfortunately, the one to put an end to it was Razia. Her eyes brightened up as she read the letter over and over, trying to know she wasn't daydreaming. An invite specifically mentioning her father's name on it, unlike other villagers invites, which plainly had nothing but ink writing. "Mother! Mother!...you won't believe this." She excitedly hopped towards Elena, who was as shocked as her. A private invitation was the last thing she would have ever expected, especially when Fina had come home yesterday, almost crying at the fact that they didn't get one. "Oh my gosh!! Oh my gosh! ..mother!! ...What do I wear, what would I put on,what shoes,and..." "Calm down, dear; it's not until after tomorrow; you still have enough time to decide all that." "Eeeee!!!!..mother am so excited." Fina could not stop hopping in excitement as she hugged the letter, twirling it in her arms. Elen was mostly glad her daughter's down mood had been lifted, but she herself couldn't help the excitement that bubbled up in her. A royal ball at the castle could be said to be a dream or mere imagination for people like them who had never in their lives thought they would ever set foot in the walls of the castle. "Mother, I have to go to Suzans. I need to get a dress, shoes, jewelry, and... oh my gosh.!! "There is so much to do!" Elen could only laugh at Fina's childishness. To others, this might be just a ball, but to her, this was an opportunity, a great opportunity that probably came once in a lifetime, and she would need to grab hold of it. Surely the ball wouldn't consist of just the villagers, right?. Some nobles would also be present, as would the upper-class families who lived in distant towns. Wealthy nobles who would be eligantly rich and looking for a bride. Fina was a beautiful maiden at marriage age, She wouldn't let this opportunity slip by, whether it was a first wife, a second wife, or even a third; she didn't care. As long as they were rich and had a ticket to get her and her daughter out of their poverty, she didn't mind. Turning over, her face wrinkled in distaste at the sight of Razia, who was currently picking up the clothes Fina had thrown all over. "You! Make sure this place is spotless before I return." She ordered before walking out of the house, heading over to Suzans, the best tailor in their village. She too would need to rent a dress and some jewelry, maybe because if she intended to attract nobles for her daughter, they too would need to look high-class and leveled. The ball was the day after tomorrow, but she knew they had a lot to do before then.
