Chapter 22 : Race Against Time

Theo was pleased with the progress of the mission so far. They managed to land on the Island and his information had been correct so far. Andrew had managed to override the CCTV cameras and alarm systems, whilst the rest had managed to dispatch the guards. The house was a typical new gang boss style, over lavish and excessive.

They had reached the top of the stairs after searching the lower levels for Zoe. There was no women that had fit that description and Theo was getting worried. He had seen the consequences of torture before, and he would not wish it on anyone. Well almost anyone.

They slowly moved down the corridor, it wasn’t guarded - a sign of sheer arrogance. They were going to do a room to room check before they heard a women screaming.

“That’s Zoe!” Akihiko said stiffened as he tried to control his anger. Theo motioned for everyone to be quite and move to the door where they heard the screaming.

“Oh Zoe, you are not looking that good. I hate to see a body such as yours be slowly cooked. Akihiko isn’t coming and Dave is probably in a drunk in a corner in his bar. That is if they notice you have gone. So why don’t you do yourself a favour and just agree to marry me?” A male voice said

“I bet that is Benny!” Andrew muttered 

Benny was unaware of the men outside his room and was staring at a computer monitor. Thumbs had done some excellent job of making sure Benny could hear and see everything in the coffin.

“I.....I .....” Zoe stuttered

“Yes?” Benny said 

“I would rather die! I don’t love you, I love Akihiko and he will come for me!” Zoe’s voice said

“When will you learn you mean nothing to him! Don’t you think he would have been here by now, if he cared? It has been 16 hours!” Benny snapped

“He will come for me! He will come for me! He will come for me!” Zoe kept repeating like some sort of mantra.

“Fine! I had enough! Let’s see how you deal with a lack of Oxygen! We will talk in a couple of hours!” Benny said as he flicked a switch to turn off the mic. Zoe was thrown back into darkness and she could hear the fan that provided her air slow down.

Suddenly, the door burst open and Benny was suddenly face to face with a room full of pissed off looking men with guns.

“Do not even think of moving!” Theo said aiming his Gun directly at Benny’s head

“Ahh Thumbs looks like we have guests! What can we do for you?” Benny said with a smile

“Where is she?” Dave growled

“Ah Dave, so you a Mad Dog? How very interesting!” Benny said still smiling like he was in complete control.

“Where is Zoe!” Akihiko growled moving forward. He had enough and was preparing to shoot Benny or Thumbs in the leg. Enough to hurt, but not enough to kill them!

“Why Akihiko, you are here. Now this is turn up for the books! Looks like she was right about you..” Benny said. Akihiko moved forward and punched Benny in the face. Thumbs was going to move to protect his Boss, but Andrew said “Don’t even think about it”

Benny chuckled and he spat some blood out on the floor. “The rumours are true, you do have a temper. No matter. I will show you where Zoe is, but on the condition we are released”

“Proof of life first and then we will talk!” Theo said

“Fine!” Benny said as he pushed a couple of buttons. Suddenly the large screen came to life with a panicked and exhausted looking Zoe. She was gasping and banging on the lid.

“You f*****g buried her alive you sick f**k!” Kurt roared

“Indeed and I have just turned off her oxygen supply! My predictions are she has about 30 minutes left if you are lucky!” Benny said with a smile.

“I am going to kill you very slowly and painfully!” Akihiko swore

“That maybe, but who’s life is worth more to you at the moment? Mine or Zoe’s?” Benny asked.

“Fine, you lead us to her and we will let you go!” Theo snapped

“You think I am stupid? I tell you what, I have a secret exit out of this room. Let Thumbs open it up and let us go. Once we are safely in the passage, the location will come up on the screen” Benny said

“How?” Kurt said eyes narrowing 

“Simple email” Benny said 

“How can we trust you?” Ethan said

“Question is do you have a choice? The other option is to shoot me and watch Zoe suffocate to death” Benny said with a smirk.

There was a moment silence before Zoe said “There  is something wrong! I can’t....I can’t....” 

“Fine, go. But if you go back on your promise I will personally hunt you down...” Theo said.

“I would expect nothing less from the leader of the Mad Dogs! Thumbs?” Benny said. Thumbs nodded and went over to a bookcase and pulled a book out. He pressed a button and the bookcase swung open. Benny slowly walked over and disappeared into the passageway. The bookcase swung shut.

“We just lost our only way of finding the target!” Aiden said angrily 

“Are you challenging my decision boy?” Theo said with a murderous stare, making Aiden look down.

“I just hope you are right!” Akihiko snapped.  He went over to the monitor and  keyboard, and after a moment switched on the mic.

“Zoe, Zoe can you hear me?” Akihiko said in Japanese 

Zoe stopped struggling and gasped “Akihiko?”

Akihiko could see doubt in Zoe’s eyes and he didn’t blame her. Benny could have recorded Akihiko’s voice to trick her. 

“It is me little Dragon, I have come. So hang on, please hang on just a little longer my love” Akihiko said in Japanese 

“My ....love?” Zoe said closing her eyes. If this was a dream, it was a nice one! Zoe thought

“Of course! Don’t you know that? You are my little Dragon and I will always protect you” Akihiko said as calmly as possible. He saw Zoe starting Consciousness and did not want to panic her, even though he was panicking like hell.

“I knew you come” Zoe murmured 

“Always” Akihiko said as an email notification came up on the screen. Kurt rushed over and got the email up.

“She is in the Garden, near the outhouse!” Kurt shouted and they all raced out into the walled garden. After searching, Ethan found the outhouse and Aiden found the Air tube poking out of the ground.

“Over here!” Aiden shouted as Ethan broke into the Outhouse and got shovels for everyone. They were about to start digging but Dave told them to wait.

“Why?” Akihiko asked angrily

“She is not located by the air tube, there is no wire or Modem to transmit images and sounds” Dave said as he quickly scanned the area. He saw a pile of rocks and quickly moved them away finding the modem. He followed the wire until it stopped a good 15 feet away from the Outhouse

“She is here!” Dave shouted and everyone ran over and started digging. It did not take that long until Ethan’s shovel hit something. He crouched down and brushed the rocks away. He saw a thick Perspex lid with an unconscious Zoe in .

“Hurry! She is here and unconscious !” Ethan said as the others dug until the lid was completely uncovered. Luckily, the lid was not locked and Akihiko flung it open with the help of Dave.

“Zoe? Zoe?” Akihiko said as he lifted her out.

“Careful with her, she been badly burned!” Andrew said as he watched Akihiko carried her out. Her skin was bright red and it was obvious she been beaten badly.

“We need to get her back to the helicopter, Frank is there ready for us” Theo said and Akihiko nodded.

“Hang on my Love, just hang on!” Akihiko said as he held her close as the group made their way back to the Helicopter.
