Chapter 21: Hell froze over!

“Did you have to break my ribs?” Akihiko snapped as he put a bandage round his chest. After 10 minutes of the twins and Theo kicking the crap out of him, he was in surprisingly good shape. He didn’t really blame them, he had acted like a total phyco over Alannah.

“You are lucky we didn’t break your neck” Aiden growled

“Enough! We need to get our heads in the game. The Blood Gods are no joke, especially their Leader Benny” Theo said over the noise of the helicopter. They were a couple of hours into their journey to Socorro Island and Akihiko was getting anxious.

“How bad, is bad?” Kurt asked

Theo sighed before saying “He has a kill list as long as my arm, he also has a particular knack for torture, people trafficking and killing children. In short, Benny is a complete phsyco and most people opt to kill themselves then be captured by him.

“Looks like Akihiko has found his soul mate!” Ethan said and Adien snorted with laughter.

“Very funny!” Akihiko said with a murderous stare

“You have to admit, you don’t have the best reputation” Dave said whilst sharpening his throwing knives.

“Yeah, but I don’t traffic people and certainly don’t kill children” Akihiko argued

“And torture?” Andrew asked looking up from the Island map. He was trying to plan the best way to approach Benny’s headquarters. They were lucky that Theo had pulled in some serious favours to get an up to date map complete with guard positions and security measures. Andrew knew better then to ask where it came from, but he had a feeling it was from an intelligence agency.

“We all have our vices. Besides I only torture the people who really deserve it!” Akihiko said with a shrug,

“That makes it OK then” Andrew muttered 

“Like you can say anything!” Akihiko retorted

“Well at least I don’t let my girlfriend get beaten and kidnapped by a complete Psychopath!” Andrew snapped back.

“She would not have been kidnapped if you had not of turned up! I would have been with Zoe and been able to protect her!” Akihiko snapped back

“I have every right to visit Zoe, especially when she is on my Syndicate’s territory!” Andrew said glaring. Akihiko was pissing him off, especially since he was going out with Zoe!

“I am only going to say this only once Andrew, you have no claim over Zoe. She is mine and nothing you can do to change that!” Akihiko warned

“Gosh, where have I heard this little speech before? Oh yes, you said similar things when talking about Alannah!” Kurt snapped 

“This has nothing to do with her!  What I feel for Alannah is completely different from what I feel for Zoe!” Akihiko roared 

“So you say! I suppose you don’t have the urge to brand her do you?” Kurt said angrily.

Akihiko stopped, normally he would shout and attack, but the memory of Zoe in a hospital bed flashed in his mind. Wasn’t he furious at the people that had hurt his partner? Isn’t that exactly what Kurt felt about Alannah?

“You are right Kurt, I am sorry. I apologies to you and to Alannah, officially as the Japanese Chairman and as a man. What I did was unforgivable and I don’t expect any forgiveness...I just understand now” Akihiko said genuinely.

There was silence on the helicopter as people processed what had just been said. Akihiko was famous for not apologising to anyone, especially to other syndicates.

“Akihiko....I don’t know what to say” Kurt said eventually 

“You don’t have to say anything, just know I regret my actions and I am sorry for them” Akihiko said with a shrug.

“I think Hell just froze over” Theo said

“Love changes a man, you know that” Dave said quietly and Theo nodded.

“Let’s just hope the Lass is still alive when we get there. When someone like Akihiko loses his soulmate, they will make Benny Lampart look like a Nun!” Frank remarked.

“Well let’s do everything we can to stop that from happening, shall we?” Theo said closing his eyes. He had learned along time ago to get rest when he could. That was after he said a quick mental prayer for the lass.

Zoe was trying to do the same, rest that is. But it was exceedingly difficult in the situation she found herself. True to Benny’s word, Thumbs had a surprise for her - a Perspex coffin to be buried alive in. Of course Thumbs designed it all with a breathing system, lights, speakers and camera. They did not want her to die yet, just make her uncomfortable as physically possible.

Apart from the fact she was hurried 6 feet under, Zoe was also been slowly cooked alive by the volcanic heat. All in all, Zoe had been in better situations.

“Zoe, all you have to say is that you will marry me and this can all be over. I know you love me and you have put up a good fight” Benny’s voice came over the speaker. The bright lights suddenly turned on, blinding Zoe.

“ I would rather listen to Freddy Kruger massage a chalk board, you sick f**k!” Zoe shouted. 

“Oh Zoe, I do love our conversations, but everyone has their limit. I can see your skin is going red, it is not going to be long before you get some serious burns” Benny said

“A small price to pay if it means not marrying you!” Zoe snapped

“He is not coming you know, you were just an unimportant fling. Akihiko is not known for his long term relationships, well apart from with Alannah Evans” Benny’s voice said

“You know I can always tell when you are lying Benny” Zoe said

“Suite yourself, maybe an couple more hours in the sweat box will change your mind” Benny said as the lights turned off. 

Zoe was left alone in the dark again, with only her thoughts and the sensation of being slowly cooked. “Please Akihiko, hurry!” Zoe thought as she felt tears run down her face.
