Ammaline Pearson:
Last night, I was too busy preparing things for my new job and I didn't think about what my parents said while we were having dinner. I totally forgot about the marriage that my parents tried to force me in until the next morning when the 3 of us were having breakfast together.
"You already spent one night thinking about what I said last night. Can you give me the answer now?" mom asked me which was like a reminder for me. I almost forgot about that.
"Mom, it's about marriage. We don't just spend a night to think about it and say yes or no so easily. It's a lifetime thing. How can you make it sounds so easy?" instead of answering the question that mom asked, I took my UNO reversed card and asked a question back to her. I was trying my best to avoid that question.
"Okay! Take your time, think and give me the answer ASAP. Hope you don't disappoint me." she smiled and patted my head. She continued "Sometimes you have to trust adults' eyes when it comes to things like that."
During breakfast, I talked to my dad about the work in the hospital. I told him about what I prepared and he gave me some tips for my new job.
"We're having a business trip again next week, on Thursday. You need to hand all the paper works to Mr. Lu. I won't be here around 1 to 2 weeks." dad said.
"No problem, dad!" I replied.
After breakfast, dad left for work and mom went somewhere. I also left the house and went back to my apartment. When I arrived home, Olivia wasn't there so I sent her a text message.
"Where are u?" once the message sent, I instantly got a reply from her.
"Out for work. U're back?"
"Yes! U come back at ????"
"Not sure. Gonna meet the client and discuss."
"Back for lunch?"
"Maybe no. Enjoy ur lunch alone lol"
"K bye"
I put my phone away after texting my friend and I started to feel bored. I decided to bake some cookies and tried an experiment on my baking goods. By the time Olivia came back home, I baked almost 10 batches of cookies. Olivia smelled the cookies once she stepped into the house.
"This smells nice. Am, what are you doing? " Olivia shouted from the front door.
"COOKIESSS! Come and try some." Olivia walked in the kitchen.
"Why did you bake so much? Am, are you kidding? These cookies can feed 10 houses." Olivia kind of shocked when she saw the cookies on the kitchen counter.
"I was trying something new. It's not that much though."
"Whatever! Gimme some I'm hungry." she walked to the kitchen counter to get some of those cookies. She bit the cookies and exclaimed "Wuhhhh! This is delicious."
"Really?!" I asked Olivia with my excited sound.
"Why would I lie to you? How did you make this?" Olivia continued to eat her cookies. "Never mind, you don't have to tell me how you made this." she added.
"Well, well well! You can have the rest of the cookies then."
"Wuhhhh! That's a lot. How can I finish all of those?" she raised her eyebrows.
"Those cookies will last a week so don't worry. You can eat it whenever you want throughout the week."
"Ok! You convinced me. Now pass me that jar, please." she pointed the jar next to me. I passed her that jar and we all dismissed to our own room.
That night, we skipped our dinner because of those cookies. Olivia worked with her project all night that night. I didn't do anything useful that night. I just watched one of the new movies that just released and pampered myself with some skincare.
3 weeks later
Time passed by quickly. I attended my graduation ceremony, worked in the hospital, took care of people and so on. Things happened so well until my parents got back from their business trip. They called and asked me to go meet them. I had no choice, but to visit them.
In the Pearson's Villa
I parked my car in the garage and walked into the house.
"Hi, mom! Hi, dad!" I greeted them and hugged them. "Did you buy me something?" I asked, seeing their unpacked luggages.
"Of course! By the way, how's your work?" dad asked.
"It's fine. Please don't worry about me."
"Just tell me if you have any problems."
"Have you guys eaten yet? If not I can make something for your lunch."
"I haven't had anything. What do you want to cook us?" mom asked.
"How about having some beef? Like steak?" I suggested.
"No no no" she rejected my recommendation immediately. "Just make me some chicken soup."
"Ok! I'll come back with your order soon, madam." I teased.
I spent almost 2h to make soup for my parents. I didn't really notice how much time I took. I served the soup in medium size soup bowls.
"What took you so long to make this?" mom asked.
"Mother, do you know that good things take times?"
"Then, give me a spoon. I'll find out whether it's worth it or not.'' she took the spoon from me and tasted the soup. She gave me a thumb up which means it's delicious.
"Am, have you thought about the Parker's son?" dad suddenly brought up the topic that I've been avoiding.
I haven't thought about about this and I don't want to think about this either. They all should know my answer, but they kept asking me to think about it which means they want a YES from me. I don't know what to do but I had to go with a flow.
"I don't care about this. You two can decide for me. If you want me to marry that guy then I can marry him. I'll listen to what you say." I said without thinking. Both of my parents looked at me shockingly. I didn't know how to react so I grabbed my glass and took a big gulp. Deep inside me, I felt so sad.
"Are you sure about this?" dad raised his eyebrow. I nodded.
"I'll take it as 'yes'. Robert, go tell the Parkers that she agreed." mom sounded and looked so excited, but she pulled her eyebrows together and asked "Why would you agree to this easily?".
I sighed and said "So, you want me to say no? What would you do if I say no? I don't think I have a choice. You still force me to marry right away if I say no." I felt so disappointed, but I can't do anything. 'It's gonna be fine' I kept repeating this phrase in my head.
